Sokka absolutely contributes. He got the plans that are paving the way for an invasion of the Fire Nation. He figured out the war balloon. He devised a way for all the citizens to escape from Omashu. He figured out how to confuse the giant sniffing creature the Shirshu. He outsmarted Jet. I could go on. They tried to cross underwater because the Fire Nation was attacking anyone they saw around the Serpent's Pass area. Oh, and Sokka is the Mack Daddy.
Fun little attention to detail: before she fought Sokka in "The Chase," Tai Lee did her chi blocking strikes with her fingers. After the fight she switched to fists.
Toph just has a crush on sokka .. its normal .. sokka sees toph as her little sister like aang .. sokka doesnt even acknowledged he has so much rizz ..
