  • Early spring work on maples is critical in bonsai development of maples. Whether its Japanese maples or trident maples, there is always work to do to improve your bonsai. Here I take a look at the different stages of my maple bonsai from young trees to exhibition quality trees and what needs to be done in early spring.
    Please note: if you located in Melbourne, I provide bonsai services. Reach out to me on my email address at bonsaiworx@gmail.com if you would like to discuss you bonsai needs further.

    Love ur maples and the garden!. Have u ever tried an all organic solution as a preventative to fungus and pests? Ive been doing some research and instead of using chemicals found this receipe : 1 liter water 1 tbsp baking soda 1 tbsp castile soap 2 tbsp vegatable oil mix it up and use as a spray. Think im gonna try this next year to avoid fungus or pests were coming into fall right now.

    I love that trident. How old is that. I know you like to find some but do you have any idea about the age??

    David, @19:58 on my favorite Trident you could try and pinch those bloody weeds out😂😂😂. I see you will be building a treehouse for the Trident at the end.

    I subscribed to your channel because you also have trident maple bonsai (I've had mine since 2011, it was grafted in 2007) and I'm always blown away how gorgeous your trees are!
    Watching your vids also helps me remember that doing bonsai isnt a race haha, I really need to wait until it's more mature so those lovely dramatic shapes develop 😅

    I am always impressed by the difference in spring growth across different regions. I guess it makes perfect sense given the variation within one garden! Do the trees that take longer to leaf out in spring, hold them longer into Autumn?

    • @Bonsaiworx
      @Bonsaiworx  Год назад

      Spot on. They do hold for longer as long as I don’t defoliate. If I defoliate then they last longer.

    Hi . aim living in New Zealand and its summer hear now and wants to do some airlaerings now can u tell me from how young branches can i use to airlaer from thanks for all the help and time to come back to us

    • @Bonsaiworx
      @Bonsaiworx  Год назад

      Maybe another month here in Australia once the leaves have harden off then you can air layer maples. Any branch that is very healthy can be air layer. Minimum I would do is at least pencil thickness.

    When’s the best time to heavily prune back a thick sacrifice leader ?

    • @Bonsaiworx
      @Bonsaiworx  4 месяца назад +1

      I would do it just after autumn leaves have all fallen off. You want to avoid sap bleeding and this is the lowest bleeding of at all.

    • @Bonsaiworx
      @Bonsaiworx  Год назад +1

      The first three are just standard Japanese maples however I sometimes get slight variations in leaf.

      @@Bonsaiworx oh i should ask then - my climate isnt far off yours in Melbourne but my japanese maple seeds arent sprouting. Do you cold stratify them in the fridge? I did mine for 7 weeks but nothings happening after a month outside 😞

    • @Bonsaiworx
      @Bonsaiworx  Год назад +1

      @@TeamFishweights I don’t stratify my seeds however Japanese maples do take longer than tridents. I’ve only put trident seeds in trays this year.
