You are an amazingly talented and inspirational teacher. Your ability to relate these emojis to everyday interactions with how we engage with the cello is genius and masterful. Thank you for sharing this invaluable information.
Mr. Peled, you are a treasure. I was lucky enough to partake in your wonderful Pandemic Lockdown cello class on the emojis. It was technically very challenging for me, however, even when I could not execute the exercises the method and instruction was so clear and poignant I think of an element of your method consistently while playing the cello.
An honour to watch this lesson for free from the other part of the world. It's like a dream comes true, having more than 1 hour lesson from you, Professor. I've downloaded it Thank you so much. Stay healthy.
Thank you, professor Peled! I had to quit cello for a while partly because it was painful in my left hand when I practiced. This video helped me understand why it is so important to learn the natural positions and movements to avoid pain and to improve sound quality. Thank you for inventing an emoji system and putting it into a book and this video to help me understand and remember the key concepts. You practice what you preach and your cello sounds very organic and very expressive.
Thank you so much, Sir! Who would have known that all my techniques and skills were all wrong! This will surely make my playing better. I've been struggling and getting discouraged recently, but this video has put a new spark in my need to have my cello playing and sound quality better than what it currently is. I'll think of all I've learned from this video every time I play. Thank you again.
i know im randomly asking but does anybody know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account..? I somehow lost my account password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
@Marcel Cyrus Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im in the hacking process atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
Thank you Prof Amit Peled, it will take a long time for me to digest and practise, every little bit I can learn from your video will be a bonus for life, and your effort in helping fellow cellist play well is much much appreciated. Keep up the good work and God bless.
Liked, subscribed, notification. What an amazing way to visualize all of my teachers words thst have never made sense. I have quit due to pain and had to restart. Twice. Todah rabah. Each emoji can be added to my warm ups. Yay.
I've watched this tutorial time and again. Find it wonderfully helpful. I'm very keen on the principle of free enjoyable movement making for beautiful sound. Thank you very much.
Dear Professor, A french cellist friend asked for my help to translate this video for him, and I was totally impressed... and a bit envious, I'm not a cellist, I play the flute and the classical guitar and I sing a little. Would you have some videos a bit like yours to advise me, for the flute, the guitar... ? Thank you very much, for so generously sharing your knowledge in this video and for your answer to my question.
What a nice in depth representation of cello technique and string instruments in general, in a high professional videocaptation! This must be the result of many years of reflecting. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Thank you Amit , things are geting much clear and easy for me. I was struggling about vibrato for years, especially Strawberry emoji eases my vibrato. I feel more flexible. I hope you keep sharing your knowledge. Strawberry Fields Forever!..
Thank you so much for this video. I have watched & studied it MANY times now! I have had shoulder injuries because of tension while playing the cello & I am in the process of retraining my whole playing process. This has been incredibly helpful.
I live in Belgium and I ordered the book yesterday as an e-book and it’s fantastic!!! Hopefully there will be more videos like 'the crab', would be very much appreciated ... Anyway, thank you Mr. Peled for all you offer through your channel!
Thank you for your kind words and hope you can join us for the online course starting this coming Saturday: www.amitpeled.com/first-hour-online-journey
To me, this is a complete revolution and change to my way to feel the cello. I won't certainly be able to master those easily, but the are the keys for me to have fun and get better in my experience of the cello. I can not thank you enough for that.
Dear Amit, Thank you for your generous sharing of this great method. My cello teacher here in Portland introduced me to this tutorial and I am very grateful. I watch portions of it every day as I start my practice session: it has made a world of difference! Thank you again, Peg
Awesome! As an adult beginner I fear a lot of that is somewhat above me however, there's some great foundational information to incorporate which I feel will help immensely in the longer term! Thank you so much for posting!
@AmitPeledCellist for the strawberry emoji you said that the left hand fingers shouldn’t be pressed all the way down onto the fingerboard however, won’t you achieve a clearer sound if your fingers were pressed and rounded on the fingerboard?
Dear Amit, thank you for your generosity in sharing this brilliant resource. I had the privilege of watching and listening of to and that amazing, historic cello. What a treat.
Gracias Amit por todos estos vídeos... Son oro puro... Podrías hacerlos subtitulados en español??! Llegarían a mucha más gente... Tienes un valor incalculable... Muchos cellistas españoles que no saben inglés estarán muy agradecidos para siempre
Amit, I had the pleasure of attending your Strathmore lecture. The concepts you presented really helped me improve my intonation and tone. And now I can watch this video as a refresher is just wonderful. Thank your for making this video available to everyone.
The best cello lesson ever! Thank you so much for your video. I'm a beginner and it helps me a lot :) I've downloaded it. I can't wait to see your upcoming videos! And I hope you stay safe
Thank you for sharing your teaching ideas. They will help so many people! I got your book a few days ago and am enjoying practicing the exercises. Because your book is for advanced students, I wonder if you (or perhaps one of your students) would write a book of exercises that beginners would be able to do using the emojis.
Fantastic! Thank you for your time and effort in sharing this precious information! Do you think we should address these techniques as soon as the student begins to learn the cello or should we wait until he/she reaches a certain level?
What a great video and the emojis are inspired. Deserves many, many more views! I will share it with my 'cello friends. Does anyone know with "bouncing lower back", does that mean actually pushing out your lower back into a curve, instead of sitting-up straight? Is that good all the time, or just when you want really deep, sonorous sound?
Opened my eyes. Thanks. One question the techniques seem to assume that only one finger is in the string at any time. I was taught to put down all my fingers that are below the finger pressing the string (strawberry).Did I misunderstand or is that just a different way of teaching?
Necesito este vídeo subtitulado al español, entiendo, pero siento que se me escapan muchas cosas por estar traduciendo lo que dice... Igual, increíble!! Me encanta
Hello Mr. Peled. Your video is so didactic and interesting, I learned so much with your emojis :) !. I have two questions about emojis in left hand(sorry for my english): 1. The Cobra Emoji is the same(or equivalent) of Brunello "articolazione percussiva" or Alexanian "Percussion Fingers"? 2. The Cobra and Pluck emojis is something that I have to do ALL the time(in scales, arpeggios, etudes, playing repertoire) or only in context of rapid passages (for example) such require clarity? Thanks for share your wisdom Mr Peled!!. Att. Sebastián
Amit, will there be another video coming out soon demonstrating the scales and exercises and how they tie in to your cello emojis in your new First Hour book?
Thank you very much Maestro! I played for you a couple of years ago and I achieved a better technique thanks to your lesson. Hope to see you soon in Mexico again. Would you like to play soloist with our new Boca del Rio Philharmonic Orchestra? Best wishes, Yahel Felipe.
Yahel Felipe thanks for your kind words! I will be in Mexico next August and September (San Miguel de Allende and Xalapa). Would love to come to your town on a separate visit. Please write to me via the email in the website: www.amitpeled.com
I am an adult beginner playing the cello for 7 years now. I like your video very much and therefore I ordered you book: The first hour. Since I live in Germany, I couldn´t order a paperback. Shipping cost ist more expencive than the book itselfs. Therefore, I ordered a kindl Version from Amazon. However the sheets and the description are to small to read on a pc (big screen) or Laptop. It´s also impossible to enlarge the sheets. So the idea is very good and I would like to have these 1 hour with you and your exercises. What to do?
Dear Prof. Amit Peled, this is probably the greatest cello lesson in history. You are a total genius connecting sound with visualization trough emojis, it will be so easy to remember!!! thank you from the deepest of my soul! Ill see you for sure @ the next online course ( hopefully soon :) )
As a cello teacher, I find this amazingly helpful. Where can I buy a poster of these emojis, or stickers? Wouldn't that help direct a young student's practice? Thanks again!
Debra Marshall thank you for your kind words!!! We will have t- shirts available shortly and a poster can be purchased via: amitpeled.assistant@gmail.com
Oh wow. Let me tell you that ALL OF THE TEACHERS IVE HAD ALWAYS INSISTED ON HAVING THE ELBOW UP WHEN GOING TOWARDS THE HIGHER NOTES. FOR ME, to some extent was a bit annoying and I have a huge disadvantage than most cellist ( yes I know I’m not the only one) I HAVE MODERATE SCOLIOSIS meaning it is close to being severe ( no I’m not contorted, but the curvature of the spine is bad enough). All the more is my necessity to play in a lose and comfortable way. Other teachers I’ve seen online say that you have to have strong fingers or else your notes are not articulated WRONG! That all depends on where to place your finger on the string. Is it completely on top or on the side of it. Is it partial on top and partially on the side? Then there is the issue of doing extensions. I have long fingers but small hands but I don’t have a problem with doing extensions but a lot of cellists seem to make it harder than it has to be and I don’t think that having small hands or short fingers would keep you from doing extensions comfortably. Thank you for sharing this.
This video is totally life changing!!! I’ve been watching your masterclasses on Medici.tv, they were incredible and absolutely mind blowing!!! Thank you so much Professor Peled 🙏🏻

Wow. Thank you. 😊I will watch this video just before each practice. I returned to cello 10 years ago after a 40 absence. It’s the best part of my day.
