So glad I finally looked up senegal fire finch in youtube, I didn't think there might be one specific.
These birds are our absolute favourite finch and we've had a few african and other finches.
They are interactive, sensitive, quiet, with beautiful flying.
We built long cages 5 feet with natural branches, and tiny terra cotta dishes on the floor with different foods and gravels.
They need a long cage, it is tragic to think they could be kept in small cages.
Their are very interactive with people, and respond to your little chirps and talking with acrobatics. Ours do various amazing acrobatic flying and we respond with very effusive oohs and aahs they love it.
This pair have only laid eggs but we will make some adjustments and see if we can get some babies.
Wonderful video of this darling finch. Mine was constantly squabbling with the male tiger finch although never in a serious way. I actually handtamed the male and even an orange cheeked waxbill. The male orangecheeked just couldn' t resist fresh newly skinned meal worms or fresh ant eggs. Even though it was in an aviary with many other birds in the aviary and the orange cheeked waxbill is considered to be more nervous than many other species. The other waxbills that dared were the pretty little male red-billed firefinch, and the male AND female tiny goldbreasted waxbill! The male redcheeked Cordon bleu and the female redbilled firefinc dared to take ant eggs or worms from my hand but not sit on the hand eating it.

I can’t thank you enough for this video. This is my first time breeding finches (unintentionally, they are in a large outdoor aviary and surprised me) and this has been such a fantastic resource for what to expect and how to help them. Oh PS, the worms they are eating look to be ‘pot worms’ 😊 I saw my female with a huge earth worm the other day!!! It was skinny but very long. I see them peck around the ground a lot but never deep so I’m not sure how she got it, but I’m impressed 😂
@mh94 your welcome im glad the video has been helpfull and congrats from the sound of it soon youll have some babies fledging 🙂. The red billed fire finches in my case atleast have always proven to be great parents. Ive been working on a variety of other videos just like this one showing how I breed certain species, but they take a lot of time. Its not easy to collect all the footage I need to build a story line and sometimes its can take months before I have footage of a certain species building a nest, mating, caring for the chicks and so on, hopefully soon ill be able to finish another one.
Thats good to know. I had no idea what the small worms were, but they go crazy for them!
The Malian fire finch is very similar. I recall seeing them when I lived there, but not in great number or up close.

Thank you Mohammed. They dont need to roost in nest like some other species of finches like lavenders and owls for example they just perch and sleep anywhere.

are Christmas wreaths safe for finches and other small birds to nest in when placed in an aviary?
Thanks for the very informative video! I just got two Red-billed Firefinches and I keep them in an outdoor mixed aviary. When I separate the young from the adults, do you have a suggestion on how to catch the birds with a minimum amount of stress for the other birds. Now I catch them with a net but it's stressful. Do you catch them at night? Other ideas?
Your welcome glad it helped. Its always a pain having to catch and separate the young. Ive been meaning to make a video on that topic but I use a few different ways like nets (which can be hard and stressful for all the residents in the aviary) or small repeating traps that I place in the aviary but these take time and sometimes you will catch everyone but the bird your after. For sure fastest way is net and when i fo it its always during the day never at night because if you spook them at night the may fly full speed into something and hurt themselves or leace a best and abandon eggs or chicks and not find their way back in the middle of the nigh

How are your Red cheek cordon bleus doing ? Did they start their second clutch ?
@@paradiseaviary she is doing great, but she laid 3 eggs, but abandoned them again, sigh, despite the eggs food and live mealworm and silkworm I provide to them. I'm gonna have to get some society to foster those eggs in the near future. I have seating a pair of strawberries and a a pair of gold brested 😀.
Does the fire finch are aggressive to others?.
@@9GSR thats sucks that she abandoned. I plan on doing a video for next week on how to use societies as foster parents hopefully that helps you set up a pair for them. Congrats on the strawberries and goldbreast ! Strawberries are good parents ! Goldbreast are a little bit harder in my opinion but with a good source of protein they should feed fine.
@@9GSR fire finches are not aggressive towards other finches but they can be a bit territorial when breeding. Then again most finches are. My goldbreast chase away any bird that gets close to their nest.
Why much must I feed them please
I give them 1/2 tsp to 1 tsp 3x a week. when they have chicks 1 tsp in the morning and the evening everyday

Did the fire Finch survive in the cold weather?!
Yes luckly here in florida it doesnt get very cold and every so often if temps go bellow 40°f i cover the aviary and add a heater. So far Ive never loss any to the cold
@@paradiseaviary I think the checks will more adapter with cold weather
Yes they adapt well specially if you place them in the aviary in the spring then they have time to acclimate to the temps before winter arrives.
You said you add Christmas trees In Your cages are these real or fake
