Singapore Airlines flight 213 landed just minutes after the Qantas incident, but before the runway damage was discovered. Should ATC have implemented a temporary hold on landings immediately after QF71's takeoff, given the ongoing resurfacing work? How quickly should airports react to potential issues during maintenance periods? Comment below to let us know what you think!
Some context, the tower is a little over 2km from that threshold and had no idea that damage had occurred. The runway inspection was either coincidental, or them reacting to information from likely the spotters that recorded the video of the runway damage occurring.
There is usually at least 15-20 people in the observation area at the end of 03, there is no way the tower would have known the damage happened immediately the tower is quite a long way from that area. As for the SIA aircraft they wouldn't have seen the damage either given the nose up profile for the approach and would touchdown well beyond the damaged area, which was right at the threshold, best guess someone at the observation area alerted the airport. That would explain the delay of several minutes before 03 was shutdown. What I am a little surprised about is that there is no CCTV monitoring the runway at that very distant end, maybe we'll see that installed now ;)
Thanks for sharing! Having known that, it does change my perspective on this! And I am guessing CCTV at the end of the runway will be part of the plans now.
@@ATCSpotlight There are multiple weight variants per aircraft type from most manufacturers. From the Qantas website, they still quote 233t. My current carrier has the 238t variant, so maybe QF have upped the weights of theirs. I’ve never seen a 251t A332.
Important counterpoint to the stereotype of pilots in developing countries being poorly trained. These guys did a great job of remaining cool under , must've been a terrible shock. Same goes for the cabin crew, too.

Good Work.
Thank you for your kind words.

Awesome information! Thank you for filling me in on this! This does change my perspective on it then!
So laid back I was expecting to hear a beer being opened
Don’t be ridiculous. They have it on tap. 😂

any news on wether the A380's of EK and QR were diverted?
On the day of the incident, they did have to divert some of the aircrafts.
they both landed 06.
@@ATCSpotlight but a Silkway West 747 was diverted to Adeliade : (
Runway 03 is now open 🎉🎉
Thats great to hear!
You might want to guess again re the max takeoff weight of the A332…
Thats the information i got off the Airbus website. If you have a different source, i am happy to check that out too!

Domestic config 200’s and all the 300’s are 233T. International config 200’s are 238T

Amazing footage by YPPHplaneguy! He had a great interview too! But I can't use it due to copyrights. Rightfully so too.
Thank you! 🦘🦘🦘

Thats crazy! Did you manage to catch it on camera?
@@ATCSpotlight no sadly I was on the other end of the Runway
Oh! Thats a bummer. But still cool to be there!
@@ATCSpotlight yeah
EXCUSE ME????? VH-EBD? DAWG THAT PLANE FLEW OVER MY SCHOOL TODAY AND I TRACKED IT LIVE ON FR24!!!!! WHA-????
Nice to know that I am not the only person who does that.
And yes, the flight carried on as per usual.
....no wonder 06 came in so suddenly.....what
More superglue needed from maintenance people…. gotta give up using that cheap imported blacktop
Gotta sprinkle in some duct tapes on the sides too.
But Perth has one runway 😂😂
It has 2.
Yeah it has 2.
The other runway is much shorter I believe. Which allows for the airport to continue its function.
@@ACDZ123 Ooops. Thanks!
I'm wrong. It's 2 lol 😆

"Pilots in developing countries"??? Singapore is a very advanced developed country.
@Robert_N Singapore is indeed a developed country. Singapore Airlines is highly rated too.
@@Robert_N sorry I was referring to the pilot of qantas
