DnD was created 50 years ago (we are moving into the 50th anniversary) by someone called Gary Gygax. It was very different back then but has gone through a number of different iterations, and now we have 5th Edition (known as 5e) which originally came out in 2014. So yes, it was originally just one guy who thought... "you know what would be fun, Adult make believe with rules and dice" and is now a massive franchise.
Also, the play style was more of a military style, but they wanted to take it in a fantasy direction. I recommend the book Of Dice and Men if you want the whole story.
To clarify a little, it came from wargaming, and Gary and Dave's desire to scale down from large armies to focus on small groups of warriors. The original version came from a game called Chainmail with rules taken from a game called Outdoor Survival, which eventually evolved into Dungeons & Dragons as they added influences from fantasy like LotR and Conan the Barbarian.
Most of the names for the turtle is references to "Over The Garden Wall" which I HIGHLY recommend you react to watching in October. It's got those good ol spooky vibes 😊
I played Slimesicle’s oneshot with my friends (not completely identical, but heavily influenced). One of my friends made a nature scene with a bear, one made her character but human (tiefling with issues), one made a pile of gold, and one made the other characters in the party, representing a desire for friendship and a place to belong. I felt a little bad when I forced them to destroy their creations.
@@ninjabluefyre3815 Yeah, 70% of the time we play characters that are heavily traumatized. It makes for interesting story oppertunities. 20% are joke characters, and occasionally we'll have a character that's actually emotionally healthy. For example, our current campaign has a centaur who was kidnapped and then forced into becoming a mob enforcer, a wizard with ASD (pretty much none of us are neurotypical; the wizard didn't want to mask for once), a cleric that lost their loved ones in a horrible fire, an NPC that was part of our party when we started, got forcibly seperated/trapped, assumed we left her behind on purpose and went evil for a while...and the Tooth Fairy. We've also recently introduced the Tooth Fairy's older sister, the Bone Fairy.
I second this, it start fun and goofy and escalate into one of the best dramatic campaign I've ever seen. Trully a masterpiece And don't be fooled by the quality of the first episode, it's been five years since and Dingo Doodles has improved so much!!
Hey, this campaign was run by slimecicle, and I think you should check out some of his videos because he's pretty funny, I'd personally recommend "Minecraft, but it's pay-to-win (or lose)"
The version I heard on the origin of D&D was that this husband kept leaving his wife to "Hang out with the guys" and one night she followed him, planning to catch him in an affair, but he was really just roleplaying with his friends.
If you want more Jaiden content then I recommend her most recent video "I won Mr Beast's $1,000,000 youtubr challenge" since I LOVE how she drew everyone. Literally so cuuuteee. I tried to get into DND but gave up cause it was too hard and I got distracted lol. Also, yeah, I loved Jaiden for ages now and I've seen a few of your videos and I love how you react to stuff. Can't wait to see your Gravity Falls reactions soon since it is literally THEE best Kids TV show ever, definitely set the bar for future Disney shows. And is probably still one of, if not my favourite, TV shows of all time ♡
something close to a dnd campaign in this fashion is the amazing "Fools gold" by Dingo Doodles. It really progresses over time, funny and also emotional with a very, very good story. high reccamend. It's in a playlist in order on thier channel

If you love this stuff you should watch/react too DingoDoodle's Fool's Gold series (if they allow it of course). Its an amazing semi animated DnD campaign thats been going on for a while now and has that combination of compelling story and friend group goofiness that people love in DnD

there actually is a full campaign up on youtube! its like nine hours but if you want more awesome dnd content 'dimention 20' are my favourites would for sure watch a reaction of that
My favorite D&D Classes are Spellcasters; Mainly Warlocks, Sorrcerers, and Wizards. But for most of the major campaigns I've been in I always make it a consistent theme for all of my characters to be apart of one consistent bloodline i.e "The House of Mer". Each character having a "Mer" in their name, and a title to describe them. (My characters in question) Mer'lander Therholt Silvertian - Wizard/Rogue (Illusion, Arcane Trickster), Heavily relies on and uses mostly illusions (flavored as low-tier "Light" and "Shadow" magic) to do a stabby stab and "Trick Weapons" for the Arcane Trickster aspect. Is a bit of an loner, but otherwise very respectful (Neutral Good). Merlot The Darklore - Warlock/Fighter (Hexblade, Eldritch Knight), Mainly just an upclose duelist who primarily used magic related to just... well sounded Eldritch related (Mainly Darkness & Shadow Of Moil which btw is a sick as hell spell). A Cunning bastard, charming but cocky, but overall loyal to those whom are his friend (Chaotic Neutral) Merlock The Artificer - Artificer (Artillerist), I didn't really need to limit him that much since all of his "spells" I just reflavor as tech he makes or a relic/artifact - that well Eldritch Cannon + Homonculous Servant go brrr. He's just a precious little beanie boy (Lawful Good).
3:37 I know you said it about the music but "..is this Zelda?" Right after saying you understood (critical role) reference was incredibly funny 😂 Edit: WHERE'S YOUR OTHER JAIDENANIMATION REACT YOU TALKED ABOUT?? Can't find it 😭
I haven't played D&D, but I'm thinking of asking a friend if I could try a game out. I want to be a Werewolf Bard. To answer your question about the clay puzzle; I think a spoon is non threatening.
Slimesicle (the DM) gave a lot of insight about this one-shot when he reacted to Jaiden's video. You should react to that! ... ...Yes, I am asking you to react to a reaction, but I think it'd work!
@@phari4820 You are correct. Looked into further and you're spot on. I was thinking of the Stand Mr President from Jojo's but the turtles name in that is CocoJumbo
I'm still waiting for my chance to get into my first campaign (my BF got me hooked on homebrew, which I've been working on while his group's mid-campaign), but one of the first things I've noticed about the game is that it's pure, unrestrained, utterly hilarious _chaos._ (As for my favorite class... honestly, I've got sheets for every one of them, though my Owlin Scribe Wizard, my Gnoll Warlock/Fighter multiclass, and my Harengon Battle Smith Artificer are my favorite characters so far.)
If you want to watch an animated DnD campaign full of craziness I'd recommend fools gold by Dingo Doodles which got popular enough they made an actual DND book for the campaign setting. Another channel with a lot of animated DnD videos is puffin forest (his are multiple individual stories but sometimes multipart.)
I'v played D&D for 5 years and I play as the Dungeon Master. It has been really fun for most of the time and I love testing my creativity and learning to improvise. Learning how to play the game "correctly" take's a long time, but it's a lot of fun so if there are some people who are not familiar with the game, I really recommend you to find a good friend group for that and give it a try. Currently running my own D&D campaign on Discord and so far the party is currently working for an NPC called Lady Erma, an old and wise taro card reader that gives the party members whatever they want if they complete a random quest line for her lol.
This was such a fun reaction! If I had to guess, I'd say that Jaiden's character was a Warlock, Ranboo's character was a Bard, and Alpharad's character was a Fighter... Though Jaiden's and Alpharad's characters could have been a Sorcerer and a Barbarian respectively! I think if I had to choose my favorite D&D classes to play as, I'd probably pick Monk, Rogue, and Warlock as my top three... Though Artificer is also up there. That being said, some subclasses from other classes are really tempting for me, like Swarmkeeper Ranger, Samurai Fighter, Spores Druid, and even the unofficial errata Jester Bard. (SO sad that one never made it into the books!) I also really love playing a lot of the more nonhuman races, like Changeling, Goblin, Harengon, Kenku, Kobald, Owlin, Plasmoid, Simic Hybrid, Tabaxi, Thri-kreen, and Warforged. I hope you can find a good long-running campaign to join sometime! I'm in a few TTRPG campaigns right now (albeit not D&D -- two Monster of the Week campaigns and a short Spire campaign) and it's really a blast to inhabit a character and explore a world like you said.
I much much much MUCH prefer Pathfinder 1E, which is based on d&d 3.5, but much much much much much much much more expansive. My favorite class comes from the 'occult adventures' expansion book, and the class is called "occultist", and though it can be a bit awkward to learn, it is versatile as fuck. More combat related? When regaining your slots for the day (as a sorcerer would), you can add focus points to your transmutation focal item and gain +2 strength (capable of doing from level one. Either +2 strength, dexterity, or constitution). The class is really quite versatile! Start off with two different schools (conjuration, evocation, etc), and at 3rd level, and every 4 levels after that, you can get a new school, or repeat a school, needing a new focus object each time. It is psychic magic, so on speaking or wiggling fingers to cast, but emotion and thought components. If under the effect of an emotional effect spell or under a fear effect...you cannot cast your spell. Can be blindfolded, gagged, bound helpless, unable to move, and can still cast spells. The thought component is concentration, super concentration. Can sacrifice your main action phase to cast the spell normally, instead of an added 10 or 20 concentration check, depending of what transpired the turn before. I typically start with conjuration and evocation. Can heal one turn and magic missile the next.
there's people telling you about Gygax and all and that's great, but what came before that were wargames. If you've heard of Warhammer 40k, that's one of the more popular games that are close to what it was then; or maybe Diplomacy, although I'm not sure how renown that is with most people - the first 'wargames' date all the way to 19th century Prussia. Basically, they were "board games" re-inacting or imagining war scenarios, sometimes even used for strategy training. Through various evolutions and expansions on the format people added diplomacy, building relations between factions, etc; and then people started going deeper rather than wider, towards imagining the conflicts of individual units, individual soldiers - and thus you have the basis of the modern rpg, pretending you're someone in a situation. Also, DnD wasn't the first rpg of its kind (i.e. individual player characters) - while I can't tell you off the top of my head what came before, I know I heard anecdotes by people who were there when "DnD" was first presented to bigger groups of people, and a lot of them were already gamers, looking down on this new thing that seemed to have less of the brutal number-crunching wargame in it. But DnD sure got lucky with growth since then.
I am so absolutely impressed he recognized the kirby airide music. I've met almost no one who knows what that game is, but the game and its music are so good!!
Been following you from you Jojo reacts, and I believe I watched other stuff you reacted to in the past. My first experience with D&D was with 4th Edition, one a lot of people seem to dislike quite a lot, and after many years I've come to realize that if it had any other name except D&D it would've been much better received, because it's a blast to play. My preferred classes are Warlock, from 4E, because it was a lot more like a regular caster but more focused on controlling the battlefield, particularly the Old One patron path. In 5E I've been enjoying plain basic warrior a lot, just from the ways I can tweak it to make it more mechanically fun, but I've also been enjoying a lot of Sorcerer, particularly the clockwork soul. There's this campaign I'm playing in where I'm a living grandfather clock that wacks people with their pendulum, but does mostly time-space-based magic.
If you need EVEN MORE D&D stuff, I'm way behind on Dingo Doodles but her animatic retelling/recaps of the games she's in and her characters are REALLY fun and don't take up a ton of time per episode. Very bite sized doses of zany weirdness and heartwrenching wtfness. Her first one before it became a series was just her telling the tale of how her character nearly brought about the apocalypse by singing karaoke.
Considering I love dragons, I would have created a clay dragon. Which probably would have been bad. xD Fun bits about this campaign... 1. Paul is a human barbarian class. A literal white collar office worker barbarian. xD 2. Tholomew the cat is legit just crazy. There is no time loop. He's just mentally ill and technically harassing his neighbor who he's pinned all his paranoia on. 3. Jaiden thought a mace was the actual spray and didn't realize it was the weapon Mace. Slimecicle thought it would be hilarious, so allowed her to have 'mace' the spray instead. xD 4. The actual DnD campaign was so fun cause Alpharad showed up in a full three piece suit with a plastic axe and basically roleplayed his character. He had so much fun, and it was fun to watch.
A RPG I think you would like is called Ordem Paranormal Quarentena (it's a 2 part) it's an horror RPG by a Brazilian youtuber called Cellbit, usually he does them in Portuguese this 2 parts in English but the 5 players do occasionally speak their own languages as two are from Mexico three from Brazil and one from Switzerland
If you like animated D&D video I would recommend DingoDoodles channel they have a series there called Fools Gold and it's really good. They also have another series called Fools Gold:Sands and it's mainly audio with one animation in it that repeats and the sky changes color throughout the videos too.
Previous to this video when it came out there was a short video about that moment where jaiden disguises herself as the deceased wife, that was such a vile move lmao
if you want another DnD thing, react to fool's gold by dingo doodles, it's really good even if it isn't finished as a series yet but it has over 30 episodes right now
wait... jaiden put bong water in.... WHAT THAAAAA FFFFFFUUU......DGE? Jaiden knows about bong water? thus... that ... WHHHHAAAA???? ok, that throws my entire image of her on it's head... and I love it lol.
07:11 "I've think I would watch decades of days of this kinda campaign....DND campaign that is animated...." Well, if Legend of Vox Machina isn't enough to watch, you can always refer yourself to origins of that or other Critical Role campaigns
If you want to react to more stuff like this one, may I suggest you to watch EPITHET ERASED by Brendan Blaber (aka JelloApocalypse)? It's originally was born from a TTRPG(not D&D) campaign that got refined in his own thing. Is very charming. If you are a purist of D&D, I can still suggest you FOOL'S GOLD by Dingo Doodles. You want the pitch for how much insanity there is in this show? Lez start with "the monkey is so bad at karaoke that it awake the Tarasque into town". ...and they are level 6. ...and this is only the first episode.
I'm a rouge. I only have only character whos name is Quercus (It means oak in latin (atleast in translate), but i'm planning on creating a new character that is a bard!
I'm a DM and I would LOVE to run a campaign for you and a group of your friends. :D I know you probably wont see this, but I think it'd be awesome. And I do very VERY homebrew campaigns that are 70% rp and 30% combat with high stakes, major character development, rich world history, and all the gods you could ever want to worship or kill. I think it'd be awesome.
There was a vote in this channel about what he watched next and Gravity fall won. Murder drones was also on the list, but it didn't win. Also why just the pilot? I'm sure that he will watch the entire series in the future and that would be amazing. I really enjoyed how the series ended and I think that Murder Drones is now officially a classic.
If you want an animated d&d campaign, I would highly recommend watching/reacting to the fool's gold series by dingo doodles! It's been going for a few years now and it's super good, it's actually what got me into d&d at all.

For the clay question;
I would've made a T-Rex...which, seeing as they come to life, would probably be bad.
The turtles name is a reference to all the names a chater gives there frog in over the garden wall
I've met almost no one who knows what that game is, but the game and its music are so good!!
game deserves a remake!
If you want an entire campaign animated you should definitely watch Fool's Gold by Dingo Doodles!! It's really fun
Which probably would have been bad. xD
Fun bits about this campaign...
1. Paul is a human barbarian class. A literal white collar office worker barbarian. xD
2. Tholomew the cat is legit just crazy. There is no time loop. He's just mentally ill and technically harassing his neighbor who he's pinned all his paranoia on.
3. Jaiden thought a mace was the actual spray and didn't realize it was the weapon Mace. Slimecicle thought it would be hilarious, so allowed her to have 'mace' the spray instead. xD
4. The actual DnD campaign was so fun cause Alpharad showed up in a full three piece suit with a plastic axe and basically roleplayed his character. He had so much fun, and it was fun to watch.
i found you through watching jaiden! the algorithm must know i like her content and reaction videos
Anyone who wants an animated dnd campaign, like full campaign, check out Dingo Doodles. She animates a campaign called Fool's Gold. Its a blast.
How have I consistently watched a lot of this guy's videos and not be subscribed? Thanks for the reminder.
Hey, since you like the idea of an animated dnd campaign I highly recommend reacting Dingo Doodles fools gold campaign it’s really good
If you like animated D&D video I would recommend DingoDoodles channel they have a series there called Fools Gold and it's really good. They also have another series called Fools Gold:Sands and it's mainly audio with one animation in it that repeats and the sky changes color throughout the videos too.
There are so many story time animators that would be cool to see you react to, like Let Me Explain Studios and Haminations.
You should check out Dingo Doodles, she made and made serious of animations from her dnd campaign and it’s amazing
Previous to this video when it came out there was a short video about that moment where jaiden disguises herself as the deceased wife, that was such a vile move lmao
if you want another DnD thing, react to fool's gold by dingo doodles, it's really good even if it isn't finished as a series yet but it has over 30 episodes right now
8:41 THE👏PEFECT👏FROG👏NAME!
RUclips randomly recommended me this and I have to say i *love* the vibes here, big fan
wait... jaiden put bong water in....

Alpharad is Larry from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet (in appearance, lol)
aw, woulda been cool to see you react to Jaidens pokemon videos
8:33 WOAH I JUST REALIZED ALL THOSE NICKNAMES ARE THE NAMES GIVEN TO THE FROG IN OVER THE GUARDEN WALL LETS GOOOO
or at least a good chunk of them
If you want to react to more stuff like this one, may I suggest you to watch EPITHET ERASED by Brendan Blaber (aka JelloApocalypse)?
It's originally was born from a TTRPG(not D&D) campaign that got refined in his own thing. Is very charming.
If you are a purist of D&D, I can still suggest you FOOL'S GOLD by Dingo Doodles.
You want the pitch for how much insanity there is in this show?
Lez start with "the monkey is so bad at karaoke that it awake the Tarasque into town". ...and they are level 6. ...and this is only the first episode.
But they didn't know they would become monsters, they made what they wanted to have.
in jojo yes that jojo there is a stand called mr president
1970's started by Gary Gigax. Was a ery different game back then
Jaiden has been attacking everyone this whole time.
Power Word: Depression
MORE MATTABLES CONTENT LETS GOOOOO!!!!!
Man, I love D&D so much… but have never played it! I don’t have any friends to play it with. 😢
This video is something I didn't know inneeded
As someone who's horrible at arts and crafts, I'd just make a pancake
Maybe scp 999?I mean the scp influence might make it good
btw Zoot goes by They/Them
I love your nails btw
I'm a rouge. I only have only character whos name is Quercus (It means oak in latin (atleast in translate), but i'm planning on creating a new character that is a bard!
I'm a DM and I would LOVE to run a campaign for you and a group of your friends. :D I know you probably wont see this, but I think it'd be awesome. And I do very VERY homebrew campaigns that are 70% rp and 30% combat with high stakes, major character development, rich world history, and all the gods you could ever want to worship or kill. I think it'd be awesome.
I ate a Otyugh heart and died.
Barbarian or Monk or Druid
suggestion for a reaction: murder drones
8:31 JOJO REFERENCE? (part 5 lol)
Hey Mattables, can you react to Murder Drones Pilot?
There was a vote in this channel about what he watched next and Gravity fall won. Murder drones was also on the list, but it didn't win. Also why just the pilot? I'm sure that he will watch the entire series in the future and that would be amazing. I really enjoyed how the series ended and I think that Murder Drones is now officially a classic.
Well,I especially mentioned the Pilot because he might skip it y'know...
Also I didn't see the vote my bad...
@@SDS_3071 Okey, that make's sense.
I’m an introvert and I don’t have any really close friends. I have never played dnd but really want to, any suggestions to how I can find a group?
Dingo Doodles:
Hiyaaaaa SICK VID.
3:33 sloooooooooooooooooooooow facepalm. no. that's critical role.
Honestly I’d play w you
RANBOOOOOOOOO
If you want an animated d&d campaign, I would highly recommend watching/reacting to the fool's gold series by dingo doodles! It's been going for a few years now and it's super good, it's actually what got me into d&d at all.
Hallo
