Guitar Pilgrim Can you please make a video on how to break out of the pentatonic box and how to become more creative when soloing in pentatonic? Really struggling with that rn:(
@@Morten_Nielsen1979 I stop at rating anyone in this class. They were all GREAT guitar players and musicians, sought out each other's company to play together, to be inspired and to be creative, and to have a great time. Weren't they the only ones along with Les Paul to receive the Chet Atkins Award, which I believe was called the Bad Ass Guitar Player Award?
If you ever get a chance to attend the Chet convention (CAAS) in Nashville you will soon see learn that Jerry is revered every bit as much as Chet himself.
When Elvis recorded Guitar Man by Jerry Reed they couldn't get it right. The story is that they had to go and get Jerry from a fishing trip into the studio for the recording.
I've said this before and I'll say it again: You are one of the best teachers and players on youtube. I appreciate how you break parts down into understandable and doable bits but don't overdo it. That and you can really play well AND sing!
I don't know if Jerry Reed is under-rated or under-known, but either way he doesn't get the props that he deserves. I think Smokey & The Bandit made people think of him as a side actor rather than an accomplished musician. You do it justice.
You are right Sir.. He was a musician first, and an actor second, although he got more attention as an actor.. He seemed to pattern himself after Chet Atkins, and when you see him in a duet with Chet, it will blow you away.. Thanks to GP for the video, and take care to everyone..
While I enjoy the movie, I could have watched an hour and change with just Jerry Reed and Burt Reynolds screwing around, talking, guitar picking, working on the rig and the Firebird, tell jokes, and, eventually, on their own time, get around to running the Coors to Georgia. : )

I grew up watching folks like Jerry Reed, Roy Clark and Glen Campbell. All of them amazing.
I listened to Rock and 60's Rock, and used to Rock. But when Glen, Chet, Roy, and Jerry played on them country channels, I used to listen since they were so damn good. And they were nice guys. Talent goes past genres. You impress me more and more, I am not a musician since I was severely handicapped at birth and born with two left ears. But I am sure you were born in the Rhine Delta to Tulip Sharecroppers, singing those old Dutch Blues, and you were Delftly handling the guitar while they were keeping the beat with the wooden clogs on the Zuider Zee soil. You really country. No matter what the country, you country. Jerry would have had a great time playing with you. As would the others.
I've just got o add to what lots of others. have been saying, it's one thing to be a great musician, it's. a. whole nuther thing to. be that as well as be able to make music the rest of us. would love to play understandable and doable! You're all that and I. so appreciate your work and art. It's a gift you are giving us and a lovely one at that. Thanks!
Another good day! But it might take a few weeks... Jerry Reed also played on Elvis' recording of Chuck Berry's 'Too Much Monkey Business' (as well as Guitar Man and US Male) at the end of the 60's, which heralded Elvis' comeback. Brilliant analysis again from the Pilgrim, thank you.
i know what i'm about to say is not just a cliché, but has become an over used one regarding many underrated musicians, but it's so true with jerry reed. he is, without a doubt, the best underappreciated guitarist country music will ever have.
It was when I first saw Jerry Reed on TV that I knew wanted to learn to play guitar. That was back in 1974 when I was 12 years old and I ended up getting my first electric guitar soon after. Awesome player and a great, great entertainer. Thank You Sir, I knew you would feature Jerry Reed. Great playing on your part too.
Never heard of him before this video ! But now I know I heard songs from him all of my life. Such a perfect guitar player, thank you man for educating me in my music journey ! Keep it up i love your videos and how you do the story telling
Jerry Reed and his Winchester m-12 shotgun in The Wild Bunch.............To William Holden " I'll watch em till hell freezes over, or you say different " , then proceeds to kill all the people he's guarding in the general store when one of them makes a break for it. He goes to town with that 12ga pump !!! He portrays a real psycho looney tune in this movie
Hey GP. At the beginning, when you started singing, I knew right away it had that Ray Charles vibe, before you mentioned his name. I've never heard this song before, but now I'm definitely going to learn it. You sing and play this song perfectly. It probably only took you two seconds to learn. You're just too humble to admit it. LOL. The first time I saw Jerry Reed playing guitar and singing was on a live video recording on a show that I can't remember. It may have been with Chet Atkins. When I saw him shootin' out them riff and licks, I was sold. I only knew him as a great actor. Thanks for this lesson. Keep up the great work. Cheers.
Great job. Well done. Having played guitar for over forty years I have found that the greatest or most rewarding times have been learning a Jerry Reed tune. For me Reed is the finest solo guitar composer of the 20 century. Thanks for sharing this lesson. Excellent.
Man, I only recently started following you but you have an AMAZING way of breaking impossibly hard songs down for amateurs like me. Thank you! I only recently discovered Jerry Reed, what a star he was!
Jerry Reed has that trademark “Claw” technique. Another thing a lot of people don’t know about Jerry.... He made up his own alternate tunings! When Elvis went to record one of his songs.... Scotty Moore just could NOT replicate Jerry’s guitar parts!!! The producer called Jerry, asked him how they could make it sound like he did when he recorded it. Jerry told him “Well Hoss.... only way your gonna get it to sound like me.... is too HIRE me to play it!”.... and they did!! Jerry Reed was one of less than a handful who was conferred the title “Certified Guitar Player” by Chet Atkins! I think the only living “CGP” is Tommy Emmanuel
I think Jery Reed's first album was called "Guitar Man," with the title track, "Guitar Man." It was an almost unplayable pop song, because Jerry really wanted to show off how hot he was on that instrument. I got into Jerry Reed for his story-based songs, which I love, and was blown away at his mastery of the guitar. every one who plays it should listen to Jerry Reed, and probably Chet Atkins, too.
I got into Jerry reed through Elvis, I noticed on some elvis records there was this amazing guitar playing going on that turned out to be Jerry Reed, what a fantastic guitarist!
Nice man! I love Ray and actually transposed the guitar from piano sheet music.. So Bb it is. I then heard the Jerry Reed version and his voicings are so great for the guitar. Make a video on Jerry's Breakdown. I know you can do it! Makes this song look like Redemption Song
You get Jerry Reed and Glen Campbell together, you have the greatest guitar duo ever, gotta thank Glen for arranging him to be on both his shows multiple times, they were so good together, which just says more about how great they both were, they could play amazing both solo and backing somebody, amazing guitarists. Love em'.
The Nashville scene of guitar players were....and are....phenomenal!! Just stroll into any honky tonk on Broadway and you will be blown away by the talent presented. It must be in the water there.
whoa hell , he played with Roy Clark . Mad skills both of them!!! Shreddn' to my eyes as a youth and greatly appealing. like Toots Thielemans on harmonica to my youthful ear . But ya HAD to be great to be anyone back then . lot of artist today got only a few great tunes
Hi it's always a pleasure to watch you playing in acoustic blues which I have a special interest after learning all the scales for the last 1 year 10 months after 28 years of no guitar play. Just to say frankly, I am seriously following here in youtube. You are number one as you are very dynamic by singing partly and playing it at the same time. There are another two persons where I am refining g my 2 years skill application with basic Blues foundation. Because of this ongoing lockdown, I am unable to respond to you properly.

I really love the way you put things in perspective thank you very much for sharing and teaching I’ve learned a lot in a short time offer you appreciate it thank you
Tommy Emmanuel is constantly paying tribute to Jerry Reed. I saw an old interview with Jerry, Tommy and Chet where Jerry said he gets the inspiration, writes the song and then gives it to Chet to make it a hit.
Lmao Jerry Reed is often forgotten about these days in terms of great guitarists... quiet simply he was awesome!! One of my all time favorites, and he was really funny!!

just playing lots and lots of songs, really

Jerry Reed is such an underrated legend. He's up there with Chet Atkins, Roy Clark, Glen Campell, all legends you don't hear enough of. Awesome work!
He is definitely above these 3.

When Elvis recorded Guitar Man by Jerry Reed they couldn't get it right. The story is that they had to go and get Jerry from a fishing trip into the studio for the recording.
Heard that too
Ye I heard that. I actually learned to play Guitar man about a year ago, really takes time to get the picking "claw" right
OH Really ? Damm ..i LOVE Jerry Reed !

Cledus Snow!
Jerry Reed was the coolest.
Yup. He didn’t tell anyone he also made up his own alternate tuning on that song! I’m sure it drove Scotty Moore mad!😂😂
