  • Had to replace an alternator in a 2001 astro van. I didn’t have all my tools at the time.

    Thanks. I have just replaced my alternator to a bigger 350A without removing the shroud! I disconnected the upper radiator hose

    Well this looks like a nightmare. As much as i love the Astro van, they are not east to work on. 😮

      It’s a tight space. But the only hard part is the fan shroud , the rest is straight forward as long as you have the right tools. I was away from my home and only had really basic tools with me lol.

    I'm looking to buy a Safari but it needs a new alternator and I was going to replace it on site when I buy it. How long did it take you to do the job? Thanks for the tips!

      Not to long Mabe 45mins. I didn’t have all my tools with me that day

      If you planning to have the van for longer then 4 years, its better to get your alternator from Autozone, they have life time warranty, I got mine 3 years ago and it went bad I just replaced the alternator, it takes more time to take the cover from the Fan then the actual alternator, good look.
