When W. Bush invaded Iraq, the young voters realized they were being lied to and protested heavily against the invasion of Iraq. They were right, none of the touted WMD's were found. Another voting issue facing college students is that students may well change their address multiple times. This means that they may have to re-register multiple times.
Anytime you change the address of your driver's license, it should be a federal law that it also updates your voter's registration! In fact, put our voter registration # on our licenses instead of getting something else in the mail that is virtually useless.
When I turned 18 you had to register with the selective service at the post office and the state I live in simultaneously registered you to vote..and I have ever since.

Was 17 when 18 year old citizens were given the right to vote. We were being drafted into the army to fight in Veit Nam, so we wanted to have input on that policy. Shortly after with the help of vets against the war, it was over, at least for a while.
VietNam lost the support of the American public because actual footage from the front lines and real journalists were allowed to cover the war, meaning that the military and pro-war politicians were not in charge of the narrative and it was hard to make people believe propaganda when the truth was being broadcast and published. They learned from that mistake and now no journalists can go near a war zone unless they are "embedded" with the troops, meaning the whole thing is controlled by the military. That's why they would show carpet bombing of huge Iraqi cities and would end with "no casualties reported there...." It was a sickening farce and it still is. When people find out the truth about war they almost universally oppose it. I'm talking about real anti-war people, not right wing filth who feign opposition to war but in reality they oppose US aid for Ukraine because they are useful idiots for Putin and Western help for Ukraine hurts Putin. The Iraq war was a disaster but Trump supporters who were alive back then supported it in the extreme,. because to them it was a war on Islam and revenge for -9/11 and they didn't care which Muslims they killed or distinguish between Muslim terrorists, 9/11 hijackers and people who are from countries where the majority are Muslims. Trump supporters are every bit as peace-loving as they seem to be, which is why they blaspheme when they say they are Christians. Their "religious beliefs" are every bit as valid as those of a death row inmate looking to have his death sentence commuted to life imprisonment.
Thank you but advise them to recheck before the deadline to preregister to be able to vote on November 5, 2024 as corrupt Republicans are voiding people's voting registration without people knowing it.

Hi Mark and Paige, I am 66 years old. I remember when the amendment to the U.S. Constitution that lowered the minimum eligible voting age to 18 happened back in the early 1970's. It was argued at the time that you could be drafted to go fight in Vietnam you and could also go to a bar and drink legally at age 18. However, you could not vote at age 18. The rationale was at the time that you were old enough to be drafted to fight for your country but not old enough to vote for the people who would decide whether or not to send you to fight for the country. You mentioned that Florida was planning to enact HB 7050. The Florida Legislature numbers its bills based upon the chamber in which they originated. Senate Bills are even numbered. House Bills are odd numbered. This video was published on April 28, 2023. There was a Senate Bill 7050 that passed the Florida Legislature that dealt with voting in Florida. One of its provisions eliminated the automatic absentee ballot list. Effective December 31, 2022, all Florida voters that were on this list have to reenroll to receive an absentee ballot every two years. There are still some 100,000 voters n Miami-Dade County that were signed up to receive automatic absentee ballots but who have yet to reenroll to receive their absentee ballots. We refer to them is VBMs. This stands for Vote By Mail.
I took my sons to their first election booth, impressing on them the importance of their responsibility. I stood outside and wept with pride that they both understood they niw could help out democracy.
I have voted everytime since I turned 18 and in college. I'm now 70, and I'm so disappointed with the GOP. I have voted democratic all the time and I have never seen the hatefulness and dishonesty that the GOP pulls.
It's difficult to admit sometimes but, I never voted until Obama ran. Because in my income bracket it never seemed to matter who was in office. Things didn't get better. As a carpenter and home builder, from 1975, to 1992, things were pretty much, same ole, same ole. I busted my ass, but pay was week to week and I struggled to keep up. So voting seemed, useless. But in 1989, I decided to break off working and build a house for my family and myself. Because my in-laws gave us 10 thousand dollars as a pre death inheritance. We looked at houses to buy and use that money as a down payment. But, in our price range, they were all fixerupers. That needed constant repair. So we decided to buy a lot,use it as collateral and build it myself. After that and 9 months of work we had a new house and myself a new sense of self worth. So I got my license and started a 1 man remodeling business. Things were slow, so I went back to work for another contractor, once again into a stagnant hourly rate that was a couple bucks more per hour but still not a life building, savings building lifestyle. Then Bill Clinton was elected and I tried my luck again. So for his whole terms we did well. Steady work, money in the bank for a change. Then came George W. Work started slowing down, people weren't doing home improvements as much. Maybe at that time it showed me it does matter who's in office. Then when Obama ran. I definitely wanted to vote and support his try. And work picked up and we started making a living again. Being a one man band. I never got rich. But I did still learn, it does matter, whos in office. VOTE.
In my 70+ years, it has become not just noticeable but nearly set in stone that when the GOP control government, it is bad for self-employed, family businesses, and other small businesses.
@@thisbushnell2012 At 71 myself, I agree. But also it's the trade you choose. As a carpenter, I was told, " what you do, isn't a commodity". Though I ve always been in the mindset, that without my trade, plumbers, electricians and mechanical workers would be doing their trades in an open field. Yet we are the lowest paid tradesmen in construction. My dad was a carpenter too. But he did get his GC license, so he could sit back and let others do the work and pull the cream off the job without driving one nail. But he wasn't that way. He worked hard till he was 72. Then finally hung up his cloth nail apron. Hoping to enjoy the not so huge 200 thou and a home he built, he worked so hard for. He died at 75.😢. What's wrong with this picture.

A big reason the voting age was lowered to 18 was because of the Vietnam War. If 18 year olds were old enough to be sent to war and possibly give their lives for our country, they were old enough to vote and have a say about their future.

I live in NH. My 20 year old son goes to college out of state but votes in NH. I also lived in idaho for 25 years and my son was born in boise. We left idaho because as a disabled single mother i could not access the healthcare i needed (trust me, womens access to healthcare is not a new problem in idaho).. I can attest that these voting access issues are real. Out of curiosity, my son and i attended a desantis town hall in NH over Thanksgiving. (We are both independents who are currently voting straight blue because we know whats at stake for the forseeable future.) We were seated in the very front because of my disability and we were about 4 ft from where desantis was speaking. My son had his hand up for the entire Q&A because he wanted to hear desantis' take on voting rights for young adults. Desantis made eye contact with him repeatedly but refused to call on him. He was by far the youngest voter in the room. Sometimes inaction tells you all you need to know. We left that town hall fully persuaded by his obvious body language that desantis was afraid of the youth vote and did not want to engage with young voters..a fact that my son has been telling all his friends on a daily basis every chance he gets. It was a bad call on desantis' part...but not surprising. We have seen republicans all over the country use every dirty trick they can think of to disenfranchise anyone they believe might vote blue. Its so important we do everything we can to help get out the marginalized voters. I shared this with my son and told him that you and your colleagues are true warriors for democracy. Thank you for all your good work! This country is very lucky to have you and i hope the day will come when your contributions are widely recognized.
As a young voter, thank you for taking your son's future into consideration! I have many conservative relatives who care very little for my future - I respect their right to vote for whoever they want, of course, however it makes it quite hollow when they claim to care for my future and then vote against it. I appreciate you for taking the time to fully explore candidates' stances and attitudes toward voters. You seem like a wonderful parent!!
As an election worker whose full-time job is working with high school students, I am always encouraging youth to use their voices, to register and vote as soon as they're old enough. I point out that as a generation, they outnumber my generation and my parents' generation, so if they don't like the way things are going, they have, or will soon have, the power to change our nation's direction with their votes.
Great video! Also, many of the most troublesome politicians represent districts and even states they don't live in. So it's more than hypocritical of them, they should be forced to reconcile that conflicted issue in court.
Americans, we must organize voter registration, help registered voters to check their registration and know our states' voting laws. Then we need to know who and what is on our ballots and get out and VOTE!!
I'm 67 & I have been around young democratic voters for years. Im here to tell you the ones I know are creative, engaged & extremely intelligent. I started voting at 18 & I was disparaged as being inexperienced. That's why they need encouragement and mentors.
All of that supposition, makes me crazy.!! I was 18 in h.s. and was politically aware. I refused to go to college, as my father was a Harvard /Attorney and my older brothers flunked out. The 4 collge students shot in OHIO, at Kent State, were awake and aware and about to change the balance, of that election. It, is never true, that they are not mature enough, unless you can prove, lack of comprehensive ability. Over Arch. Can the RNC or the Republican party, be sues in a class action suit, alleging a complete pattern of election interference. And solve this issue for some good. I’m honestly exhausted, just hating the system.
I work the polls in Ohio and I live in a college town. A lot of students were unable to vote without casting a provisional ballot. Because they didn't put in for an absentee ballot.
The point is that the regulations are not necessary because there is no such thing as voter fraud, which is what they are supposedly trying to prevent. All it does is make it harder for college kids to vote, so fewer end up voting. Shouldn't they have to prove that such voter fraud exists before laws are passed to prevent it? Unfortunately we are dealing with the right wing movement here, so two things must be kept in mind--1. they always act in bad faith 2. every word they say is a lie. Keeping those two rules in mind is important when these fascists try to pass themselves off as human beings.@@kimthomas781

It is your right. VOTE BLUE!!!
We need a voters' bill of rights that gets politicians out of the way of voting and demands that politicians are truthful about their policies and opponents--no more lies and propaganda.
Republicans will never allow it,but Dems will,if you give them the right number, they will change is cos it supposed to have been done but republicans keep blocking the bill,so vote GOP out ,and there will be chance for a better change.
How does one get a perpetual liar to tell the truth, law or no law? I agree with you, but don't think it's possible.
For what?> It's not like Republicans will OBEY any law they don't agree with. They USED to be a political party, but now they are just fascist oligarchs and their minions, not a REAL HUMAN in the bunch. We ARE at WAR, so it's NOT illegal to FIGHT BACK, HARD!
Laws on paper are MEANINGLESS to MAGA.
Agreed!
Not likely to happen, though. If you look thru a proposed bill, ie the Brady Bill, you'll find possibly hundreds of line items that have nothing to do with the Brady issue. All those line items were the result of backroom bargaining; I'll vote yes on your X if you vote no on Frank's Y and yes on my Z. Otherwise, I'll vote no on Brady, & you'll get nothing.
This is the generation loudly lamenting that they are not represented in Congress. They need to vote. They need to vote often. They need to vote blue. And they need to run for office, any office, if at all possible. Don't let anyone, including yourself, keep you from voting.

Hi Mark and Paige,
I am 66 years old.
More established voters- now there’s a term I can live with! Thanks for all the hard, frustrating work in 2023 Mark, looking forward to more victories in 2024!
A big reason the voting age was lowered to 18 was because of the Vietnam War. If 18 year olds were old enough to be sent to war and possibly give their lives for our country, they were old enough to vote and have a say about their future.
Looks like voting day needs to be a federal holiday allowing people the time it takes to get out and vote no matter what

It's so hard to believe a political party works so hard to stop people from registering and voting , I hope if democrats win the presidency, senate, and Congress, they pass a new voting rights act on day one.
The only way can win is voter suppression.
The GOP would like to restrict voting to just....white males over the age of 30 and must own an AR-15, listen to Ted "Cat Scratch Fever" Nugent and attend church or at least should've read Two Corinthians...
Why hasn’t Texas banned voting in churches? How can I cast a secret ballot with God looking over my shoulder? If Florida needs to open new polling sites they should consider pawn shops and strip clubs since they are so widely distributed.

@@doviebruder1285I can't give this enough likes. We need large majorities in house and senate, to get anything done. And easy, equal, voting rights for everyone should be the first order of business. There are approximately 6 million registered voters, that are disenfranchised by these stupid, outdated, useless, ID requirements. 500,000 in Texas alone.

Hopefully they will be ready for the next election cycle 😎
The point is that the regulations are not necessary because there is no such thing as voter fraud, which is what they are supposedly trying to prevent. All it does is make it harder for college kids to vote, so fewer end up voting. Shouldn't they have to prove that such voter fraud exists before laws are passed to prevent it? Unfortunately we are dealing with the right wing movement here, so two things must be kept in mind--1. they always act in bad faith 2. every word they say is a lie. Keeping those two rules in mind is important when these fascists try to pass themselves off as human beings.@@kimthomas781
