The television show was broadcasted by Veronica from 1976 to 1993 and was "Europe's Number 1 Rock Show" with performances by the greatest artists from all over the world like Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Tina Turner, Janet Jackson, Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones, George Harrison, U2, The Police, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Lenny Kravitz, Depeche Mode, New Order, Whitney Houston, Duran Duran, R.E.M., Frankie Goes To Hollywood, The Cure, Run DMC, Cyndi Lauper, Iron Maiden, New Kids On The Block, LL Cool J.

Het Nederlandse televisieprogramma "Countdown" was van 1976 t/m 1993 “Europe’s Number 1 Rock Show” en werd uitgezonden bij Veronica. Later werd het programma ook uitgezonden in het buitenland en was het op z'n hoogtepunt in meer dan 20 landen op televisie te zien.
Gedurende deze 17 jaar muziekgeschiedenis zijn er opnames gemaakt met talloze internationale sterren, zoals Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Tina Turner, Janet Jackson, Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones, George Harrison, U2, The Police, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Lenny Kravitz, Depeche Mode, New Order, Whitney Houston, Duran Duran, R.E.M., Frankie Goes To Hollywood, The Cure, Run DMC, Cyndi Lauper, Iron Maiden, New Kids On The Block, LL Cool J.
Uiteraard kwamen Nederlandse top-acts als Doe Maar, Andre Hazes, Herman Brood, Frank Boeijen, Spargo, Golden Earring, Time Bandits, De Dijk, De Raggende Manne, Hans de Booij, Gerard Joling, Drukwerk ook langs voor een optreden in Bussum.
Countdown werd gepresenteerd door oa Lex Harding, Erik de Zwart, Adam Curry, Simone Walraven Wessel van Diepen, Jeroen van Inkel, Rob Stenders, Simone Angel en Jasper Faber.
Het Countdown archief is vrijwel helemaal compleet en sinds 2017 eigendom van het Amerikaanse Reelin’ In The Years Productions (David Peck - reelinintheyears.com/) en Double 2 Hilversum (Jan Douwe Kroeske - www.double2bv.nl). Het archief bestaat uit meer dan 3.000 analoge mastertapes die allemaal gedigitaliseerd en gearchiveerd zijn. Oggi bisogna andare a pescare nel vivaio di Neshville per trovare cantanti che riprendono le belle atmosfere musicali del passato rimaneggiandole in chiave moderna e bypassando le sciatte avanguardie del pop. Un esempio sono Stephen Sanchez tra gli uomini, Lauren Strahm (Fleurie) e Maggie Eckford (Ruelle) tra le donne.

This is one of A-ha 's greatest songs. Absolute brilliance. The throbbing, pulsating bass hitting you before the snare hits, along with Morten's vocals is goosebumps stuff. Epic. Hunting high and low is my #1 and an absolute masterpiece of an album.
Don't forget the drummer's mullet, proper Jason Donovan in Neighbours vibes.

All the 80s teenage girls had only one poster above their bed. Musically this band was masterful in every way and what a voice! We sat for CountDown every Friday glued to the tv!

They could have been much bigger, they lost the US after Cry Wolf in late 1986. The band opted to gain the popularity in other parts of the world. South America and especially Brazil during 1988-1991.

I preferred this song to "Take On Me". Just my own preference. This seems richer and more interesting. Of course here in America "Take On Me" was immensely popular, as was its music video on the MTV back then.

When I was 19, I bought the 12 inch single of this song down at the record shop in the mini mall in town.
This was the last every hit A-ha had in the US getting in the top 20 then with the album: Hunting High + Low then after that no more hits on the Billboard hot 100 + 200!

Take on Me is my favorite 80's song. This guy has an incredible voice. Sadly with that being said I'm not much of a fan of any of their other songs. But, I can listen to Take on Me over and over and never get tired of it.
