not really a hidden gem, or an indie, but one of the best low end game i played last year was Elder Scrolls Oblivion. I did not expect it to run at 60 fps on my over 10 year old laptop's intel HD 4000 (i had to turn off grass & bloom tho). I only played it because my gpu died and had literally nothing to play, but it turned out to be one my of the best decisions ever. I feel like people forget how there are many old PC games that run well on low end and have aged quite well, Batman Arkham city, Bioshock, Stalker, Fallout 3 and new vegas, the older hitman games, prototype probably some more than arent coming to my head rn
That's funny because even high end rigs have trouble with that due to it being poorly optimized for anything over 2 cores. I assume GOG version or no mods?
I love the sentiment, but after having Fallout New Vegas corrupt my save 4 different times, 3 of which had a boatload of stability mods installed from Vortex which is supposedly the best one, I gotta call cap lol. But I can attest to Batman being a good decision, I can nearly max out the settings with my rig which was beefy when I made it but now considered a budget build.

I sold my GTX 1080 when the prices were sky high during the pandemic, and used I5-8600K's integrated graphics to play some low spec games for 10 months til' I could bag a 3070 FE for retail price. Here are a few that you reminded me of with your list: Death Road To Canada - for the roguelike pixel action game with choose your own adventure style stuff. You choose your crew and can get and maintain vehicles as you travel north to escape into Canada from the zombie apocalypse. A Short Hike - played this one since it was on Game Pass and really enjoyed it. It's really relaxing and charming, and was fun without being too long. Endless Sky - for space action and shooting sim that reminds me of the old days growing up with Escape Velocity and EV: Nova. This one is straight up free.

Based on your taste in games, I've gotta recommend Picayune Dreams. Definitely one of the more inventive Vampire Survivors-likes, the art style and music is incredible.
I want to like Teleglitch (and have had it for many years now), but the constant zooming in and out and blackness-of-war shifting around so fast just ends up disorienting me and giving me a bit of a headache after too long. :( [think I said this before when I noticed it in a shot of your Steam list :P] edit: Yeah, I can't watch this part of the video fullscreen. And even when not fullscreen and with a lot of static web page around it, I can feel it. :( edit 2: Jamestown is excellent, yes. I suck at it, though. However, Francisco Cerda's soundtrack is freakin' awesome.
Thank you thank you for making the subscription monologue at the end of the video and only very short. This is a really good video and there’s at least two games on here maybe three but I’m gonna check out. Oh man she got old. Oh yeah
Awesome ! I’m wondering what is this arkanoid like you have shown. I love your hidden gems video, i will try some games. Gonna have a fun weekend now, thanks
With the recent influx of hanheld gaming machines, these games become even more relevant. I love the look of Bot Vice and went to have a look for it on Steam only to discover I already owned it. I imagine it was a game I got when purchasing Fanatical Mystery Bundles. Looking forward to seeing more like this in the series
Thanks for this list! I love SHMUPS ever since I played Gradius III on SNES. Currently been playing a lot of Dave the Diver, Vampire Survivors, and Hades on the Steam Deck. Just find myself always wanting to play these low spec type of games over the big AAA titles. Once I can get a nice emulation setup (arcade?) with everything from before the current generation, I think I'd be pretty content.
Axiom Verge is a requirement for fans of classic Metroid. One of the most impressive retro game throwbacks and I have played a number of them. Great to see it on this list. I have a gaming rig now that will play anything but games like Axiom Verge are as good as anything that has high end requirements. The NES was the console of my teenage years and Metroid a top exclusive title I still like to go back and play. Axiom Verge is a classic not to be overlooked.
Awesome video!! I love the variety of content you continue to put out and innovate, while still being uniquely TD! I would love to know what the games in the intro were, specifically the underwater shmup-looking one, the brick breaker and the cave one at 00:31! Maybe for the next video!
That gameplay footage of Post Void is was quite the trip! Holy moly dude!. I think this is the first time in over 35 years of gaming that watching someone play a game made my body so upset and nauseous. I would hope that it’s a different experience when actually playing it.
Thanks again, Mr. Dweeb, I absolutely love your Hidden Gems series! There always seems to be one game from your list that I've played and several others that I add to my list of future titles. You reminded me that I really need to go back and finish Axiom Verge and add Bot Vice to my list. There was a Contra-like game in your opening and closing montage, with the protagonist running up a diagonal platform. Do you remember the name of that title? I kinda suck at the genre, but I always have 1 - 3 on my system as they are great for on-the-go gaming. One of my recent 'Low-spec' faves is, UnMetal. The humor might not stick as well if you hadn't played the Metal Gear series but I often had to stifle laughter late at night when playing it in bed. You can pick it up on most current-gen consoles, but I played it on the Deck.
I recommend "It Lurks Below". It's made by David Brevik, who was one of the main designers on Diablo and Diablo 2, and it is essentially a mash-up of Terraria+Diablo. So, kind of a survival ARPG dungeon crawl I guess. The whole game is only like 256 MB but has a ton of gameplay. It supports controller or KBM, but in my opinion it plays much better with KBM.
Although not as "pixelated" as the rest of the games you showed, or an indie title, I would love to see Civ V in this series somewhere. That game runs on my 2011 mac pro laptop and is a strategy GEM.
Killer list, honestly... Been playing ona a Thinkpad X220 until recently so games like these are my bread and butter: some of them I've never seen, so thank you!
I highly recommend Infernax for this category of games. I couldnt get enough of it! Also, Ocean's Heart and Astalon were good. Play-on-a-potato JRPGs I'd recommend are Shadows of Adam and Rise of the Third Power. Very nostalgic for me since i was a big Final Fantasy guy in the SNES days.
Nice video and interested to see the follow ups as some of those clips of the 'unmentioned' look awesome. Since these will technically run on a potato do you think there are any that might run on something like Winlator on a Android handheld?
Hello, for a future episode you could check out also Graveyard Keeper, it has good pixelart, an amazing soundtrack, very good leveling upnsystem with complex skilltree, it is like a darker version of Stardew Valley, it also has an amazing story with several DLC's that just add new layers to the storry adding back storyes to sidecharacters.
Ooh, boy... I could list pretty much all my games here, since my PC is ancient=\ Here are some that are not retro and are hidden/forgotten: - Aquaria - beautiful underwater metroidvania; - Bad North - minimalist roguelite (RL) RTS; - Battle Chef Brigade - brawler with match-3 cooking system and a nice story; - Bleed 1 and 2 - simple and short run-and-gun games. Get two at once, have a day or two of old-school fun; - Broforce - Contra-like action platformer; - Card Crawl, Card Crawl Adventure - cool little solitaire RLs; - Charlie Murder - my absolute favourite beat'em-up; - Children of Morta - Hades-like story-based RL about family. Has 2-player coop; - Dead Estate - Isaac-like RL. Sexy Newgrounds artstyle aside, the game itself is actually really fun, and surprisingly wholesome; - Deathstate - kinda like a precursor to Vampire Survivors. Had a ton of chill fun with it on a crappy laptop while stuck on a business trip in the middle of a desert; - Death Road to Canada, Organ Trail, Super Amazing Wagon Adventure - roadtrip RLs, kinda parodying Oregon Trail. All three are different, all three are great; - Downwell - RL action platformer. You just go down a well; somehow have 60 hours in this thing; - Dungeon of the Endless - RL tower defense/strategy with indirect control. Cool idea and pixel art, coop; - Eldritch - RL stealth FPS. Looks like crap, plays like a dream; - Hedon - Hexen-like fantasy FPS with puzzles; - Nightmare Reaper - RL looter boomer shooter. Kinda demanding, YMMV on your PC. Love this game to bits; - Nuclear Throne - RL top-down shooter; - Overfall - RL tactical RPG with a ton of cool random story bits; - Pit People - weird simple tactical RPG, Adventure Time meets Mad Max meets HoMM; - Reigns, Reigns: Her Majesty, Reigns: Game of Thrones - card-based RL choice-based games. A tad forgotten, but very cool; - Road Not Taken - RL socoban puzzle with a town and relationships; - Slipstream - old-school racing, basically Outrun; - Space Tyrant - minimalist, boardgame-ish 4X strategy with short matches; - Stikbold! - silly arcadey dodgeball; - Super Blood Hockey - great little arcadey sports game. Another good one is Tape to Tape, a silly hockey RL, but that one is in EA and is more demanding to the PC. (Also, if you like arcadey sports and RPGs and haven't played Pyre - you really, really should); - Super House of Dead Ninjas - RL action platformer. Got overshadowed by Dead Cells, but is still great (and more fast-paced); - Sunless Sea - weird, gothic/eldritch, story-based, RL boat managing sim; - Unrailed! - silly little train-managing RL, with coop; - Viking Squad - beat'em-up along the lines of Castle Crashers; - West of Loathing, Shadows Over Loathing - silly turn-based RPGs with absurdist humor; - Ziggurat - RL FPS. Bonus category: PC games that everyone should own. Hours of fun on any ol' PC; just get them, trust me: Bastion, Brawlhalla, Castle Crashers, Darkest Dungeon, FTL, Horizon Chase Turbo, Into the Breach, Kingdom Two Crowns, Left 4 Dead 2, Mount & Blade: Warband, Portal 1 and 2, Rusty Lake series, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, Slay the Spire, Spelunky 1 and/or 2, Terraria, The Binding of Isaac, Torchlight 2, Vampire Survivors... Plus classics like Diablo 2, Doom 1 and 2 (and other old FPS like Blood, Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior; all 3 have Steam remasters), HoMM 3, old GTAs, Warcraft 3, Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War...
Every game by the Post Void developer seems to say "Hey, you're going to either get motion sick or have an epileptic fit from our games, and we're cool with that if you are." Bot vice was one of the first games I bought when I got my pc it's tough, but a good value, also the developer makes mostly games that cost about a dollar or two depending on the day.
Not a very hidden gem, but I suggest everyone TES 3: Morrowind. Really a beautiful game with lots of possibilities and a great story. Same for Fallout 2. I could play it forever again, and again.
For RPG and 8-bit/16-bit graphics Undertale and CrossCode. Both are on GOG, Steam and I think every console. For PC, both say 2GHz, dual core and 2GB of RAM.
I Wish they worked on my miyoo mini plus... damn you. you spark something in me from the april fool day. now i dream of something i didnt knew i wanted

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out!
Ayo post void actually looks pretty fun. And it basically costs nothing on steam?! Bruh thank you for this video!
Although not as "pixelated" as the rest of the games you showed, or an indie title, I would love to see Civ V in this series somewhere. That game runs on my 2011 mac pro laptop and is a strategy GEM.
Looking forward to the next one!😸
Here are two. Shogun Showdown and die in a dungeon. Both of them are strategy games and are pretty fun.
I love the way you present your vids. Shame you don't make more.
I love this video. I just know that I had to subscribe. More power to you.
Killer list, honestly... Been playing ona a Thinkpad X220 until recently so games like these are my bread and butter: some of them I've never seen, so thank you!
the X220 can do more than THAT ... I have one with a mobile i5 and I've been playing resident evil 5 and 6 at 30fps-ish on that poor thing.
@@KenjiUmino I know it can, I don't know if it should...
Ideal for my laptop on holidays 😊
thanks TD so gonna look into these games
I recomend "Dust: an Elysian Tale" in the Metroidvania style, with a cute fantasy theme. Great game.
But want to emphatize again, I´m really looking forward to more of those recommendation! Thank you :)
More videos like this please!
I've got a soft spot for metroidvanias that have lo-fi graphics like Psychron, Xanthium Zero, and Gato Roboto.
Added more into my wishlist! Do more like this for us potato gamers lol
Nice video and interested to see the follow ups as some of those clips of the 'unmentioned' look awesome. Since these will technically run on a potato do you think there are any that might run on something like Winlator on a Android handheld?
There is a good chance they will! I haven't played around with Winlator much but it's a very promising avenue for future PC gaming on the go.
@@TechDweeb I've not delved into Windows on Android yet either but these might be a good thing to dip my toe in with. Thanks!
You should check out steel assault, definitely checks out the looking good criteria
Will do!
This is great make more of this sir !
Will do!
Really nice shareable content. I love your focus on great artwork.
If you like Post Void and want some more low-spec first person shooters with benadryl hat man energy, try Hyper Demon
Thanks for the video. Now I really want to try some of them. Please tells me more.😊
Teleglitch looks awesome !
Ooh, boy... I could list pretty much all my games here, since my PC is ancient=\ Here are some that are not retro and are hidden/forgotten:
- Aquaria - beautiful underwater metroidvania;
- Bad North - minimalist roguelite (RL) RTS;
- Battle Chef Brigade - brawler with match-3 cooking system and a nice story;
- Bleed 1 and 2 - simple and short run-and-gun games. Get two at once, have a day or two of old-school fun;
- Broforce - Contra-like action platformer;
- Card Crawl, Card Crawl Adventure - cool little solitaire RLs;
- Charlie Murder - my absolute favourite beat'em-up;
- Children of Morta - Hades-like story-based RL about family. Has 2-player coop;
- Dead Estate - Isaac-like RL. Sexy Newgrounds artstyle aside, the game itself is actually really fun, and surprisingly wholesome;
- Deathstate - kinda like a precursor to Vampire Survivors. Had a ton of chill fun with it on a crappy laptop while stuck on a business trip in the middle of a desert;
- Death Road to Canada, Organ Trail, Super Amazing Wagon Adventure - roadtrip RLs, kinda parodying Oregon Trail. All three are different, all three are great;
- Downwell - RL action platformer. You just go down a well; somehow have 60 hours in this thing;
- Dungeon of the Endless - RL tower defense/strategy with indirect control. Cool idea and pixel art, coop;
- Eldritch - RL stealth FPS. Looks like crap, plays like a dream;
- Hedon - Hexen-like fantasy FPS with puzzles;
- Nightmare Reaper - RL looter boomer shooter. Kinda demanding, YMMV on your PC. Love this game to bits;
- Nuclear Throne - RL top-down shooter;
- Overfall - RL tactical RPG with a ton of cool random story bits;
- Pit People - weird simple tactical RPG, Adventure Time meets Mad Max meets HoMM;
- Reigns, Reigns: Her Majesty, Reigns: Game of Thrones - card-based RL choice-based games. A tad forgotten, but very cool;
- Road Not Taken - RL socoban puzzle with a town and relationships;
- Slipstream - old-school racing, basically Outrun;
- Space Tyrant - minimalist, boardgame-ish 4X strategy with short matches;
- Stikbold! - silly arcadey dodgeball;
- Super Blood Hockey - great little arcadey sports game. Another good one is Tape to Tape, a silly hockey RL, but that one is in EA and is more demanding to the PC. (Also, if you like arcadey sports and RPGs and haven't played Pyre - you really, really should);
- Super House of Dead Ninjas - RL action platformer. Got overshadowed by Dead Cells, but is still great (and more fast-paced);
- Sunless Sea - weird, gothic/eldritch, story-based, RL boat managing sim;
- Unrailed! - silly little train-managing RL, with coop;
- Viking Squad - beat'em-up along the lines of Castle Crashers;
- West of Loathing, Shadows Over Loathing - silly turn-based RPGs with absurdist humor;
- Ziggurat - RL FPS.
Bot Vice is a very good game! Last boss is super tough, though. Took me several tries to beat that bastard.
I haven't even beat it yet! I started on the swtich, but then I rebought it and am playing through on the PC. I'm pretty sure I'm near the end now.
Thank you for this!😺
Not a very hidden gem, but I suggest everyone TES 3: Morrowind.
Thank you I needed this
More on the way!
I Wish they worked on my miyoo mini plus... damn you. you spark something in me from the april fool day. now i dream of something i didnt knew i wanted
I have a pc that can run anything at 1440p high-ultra settings, but I still only play old games that can be run on a potato.
Tech dweeb! I have a question, would tou make(are you planning) on doing a video on how to install GAMMA OS on the RG405V? 🥺🙏
great list for steamdeck
Not a low spec gamer, just here to find more games to play
the third game Is like playing Doom in win98 labirint screensaver 😅
