DIY Folding Serving Tray

  • I wanted to make something cute to hold cupcakes for my daughter's birthday. I also don't have a lot of room for storage so I needed something that I could easily fold away and store.
    I did end up adding feet on the bottom so it wouldn't slide. I don't think I explained how I lined up the shelf supports well enough...to make sure they ended up level I took each of the 4 legs and measured on each of them from the top on both sides and marked 7in, 14in, and 21in. Then I drew a line connecting the line on both sides (which you see me doing in the video). This line will be where you want the shelf support bottom to line up. Hope this helps, if not please leave a comment. :)

    We have this all cut out and ready to go… what keeps the legs from sliding “open”?

    • @paintilludrop
      @paintilludrop 10 месяцев назад

      Few post down she replied. 1. Put rubber feet on bottom.2 she added short shelve to bottom.
      It still does not make sense.
      I would drill holes on each leg and add a rope knotted at each end .at hole.

      @@paintilludrop we made this two years ago, we ended up putting two little wood blocks under one board to keep it from sliding out. Worked perfect. It’s been used many many times for many different things! A great little piece! 🩷

      This was so long ago I don’t remember. I used very inexpensive wood so it was definitely on the cheaper side. I hope to make one again soon with a high quality wood to compare.

      Debbie Clark Hi Debbie, no problem at all so here is my cut list, keep in mind you can totally change it if you want something bigger or smaller 😊
      Shelves -
      Using the 1x8 I cut
      - 11 1/2” long
      - 16 1/4” long
      - 20” long
      Side pieces (using 1x2) -
      - 4 at 25 1/2” long (cut at a 20 degree angle)
      Shelf Supports (using 1x2) -
      - 6 at 7 1/4” long

    • @edgarfuentes5768
      @edgarfuentes5768 5 лет назад

      How were you able to slide in the three 1x8 in. shelves into a 7 1/4 in. gap. I believe, (and please correct me if I'm wrong) you meant to say you cut the six shelf supports at 8 1/4 in. long. Which would give you a 1/4 in. of play when sliding in the 1x8 in. shelves into the shelf supports.

    • @AroundtheHouse
      @AroundtheHouse  5 лет назад

      Smiles-Behind-Lupus that’s a great question. I’m guessing it’ll hold around 30. If you want it to hold more you can always make the shelves a little longer. 😊

    Is there a way to make this without having to do 20 degree cuts? I just want Home Depot to cut all the wood for me.

    • @AroundtheHouse
      @AroundtheHouse  5 лет назад

      You totally could and it would be just as strong. I just did it to give it a more clean look. 😀

      Thank you for the reply. I’m a bit confused. Would you clarify the measurements? When I add up how many inches for the legs and supports, it adds to more than 144” long (if buying the 1x2x12ft).
      Legs - 25.5” x 4 = 102”
      Supports - 7.25 x 6 = 43.25”
      Total = 145.5”
      Am I doing something wrong and overthinking it?

      What measurement did you use for the shelf boards to be leveled ?

    • @AroundtheHouse
      @AroundtheHouse  6 лет назад

      Alexis amaral good question. I measured from the top of each support board on both sides at 7in, 14in, and 21in. Then drew a line connecting them so I knew right where the bottom of my shelf support should sit to hold the shelf level.

      @AroundtheHouse  5 лет назад +2

      Donald Cone I put rubber feet on the bottoms of the legs and as an after thought added small 1” boards on the bottom of the lowest shelf to keep the legs from sliding out. Unfortunately I thought of this after the video 🤦‍♀️
