AN EPIC BUSHCRAFT ADVENTURE: New Bushcraft Spain Tarp/Ground Cloth, 3Day Meatball Stew, Tinder Pouch

  • Welcome all,
This has been a return to a previous campsite I created last year. The location is the same spot I filmed my one year RUclips anniversary at. So, you will see a lot of similarities if you have seen it.
The shelter system is obviously from Bushcraft Spain (they have not sponsored, nor given me any kit to review). I fancied their items because they were more pliable than my other tarps and ground cloths, they are however thinner. The ground cloth is something to highlight, as well, with its cashmere and wool blend which keeps you nice and cozy. I am extremely happy with the items, They make for a perfect kit. I'm excited to bring them out again.
The structure is my all time favourite. I prefer Plow Points with a structure. The spine up the back allows for plenty of headroom. The tarp has an 8 ft span, which gives me plenty of leg and headroom being 5 ft 9 in. If it was to rain sideways or so, I could always lower the front part of the frame or just scoot for the back, which makes it versatile. I could certainly fit a dog and a pack inside comfortably. The ground sheet gives me the ability to spread out since it covers nearly the entire ground of the setup, and the rest is covered by the tarp flaps. And best of all, easy to set up.
The 3-day Meatball stew came about because I wished to have a one pot wonder for the entire trip and thus streamlining the amount of items I bring. Therefore, I purchased the 120 Oz SRO Bush pot. This makes it so convenient for me, because I can just put most of my ingredients in one pot and take off.
The Waxed Canvas bags I used are from (PNW) Pacific Northwest Bushcraft. They are artisanal Bushcraft outfitters that are small production, yet high quality craftspersonship. In addition, they are family owned, which I'm happy to support. They are listed as a large and small pantry bag, and an all purpose gear bag that can be used as a pillow case, as well.
    www.pnwbushcraft.com/
The new gloves are exactly what I have been looking for, the specifications are exact. I'm so happy with them! I purchased them from
    adirondackamerican.webs.com/
Dutch Blackfeather recommended them on one of his RUclips videos and he was spot on.
check out his new channel and let him know I sent you.
    / @traditionalbushcraft
The Tinder pouch was made by a leather works Craftsman out of England. It was an upgrade from my tiny little pack that you've all seen, however, I didn't get it for the capacity, I got it for the Ferro rod holder since my new knife sheath from my new Ray Mears Woodlore Pro (hands down the best knife I've ever owned) doesn't have a fire steel holder, even though I can use the sheath from my other Ray Mears Bushcraft knife as you must have seen before, it also has a sharpener.
The rucksack is the Boreal Bushcraft pack by Skogsvana, it debuted a couple of videos back. I made certain to highlight quite a bit of its features in this outing, such as the Foam slide in Panel that makes for back support, a sit pad, and for side sleepers or just torso comfort it works as a sleeping pad. The hood of the pack has a zipper which I long for in my other wax canvas ruck, it has a lumbar pad (sold separately) that keeps the weight suspended (and not dragging on you as if you had a 12-year-old on your back), one large and one smaller side pocket, attachment loops for the additional side pockets that you can add on (sold separately) or simply clip and strap things onto the pack, it has daisy chain loops on the shoulder straps, two front pockets with slip pockets that I usually put my saw or fat wood in, an ax holder and blanket and hood loops for gear. I also purchased the belt as you can see (sold separately).
The blanket is an iconic Hudson Bay 6 Point 350 Year anniversary limited edition. I'm so glad I scored it because it was the last one. If you look closely you'll see that it has a special label on it.
Anyway, I hope you will all enjoy this adventure, because I certainly did and I'm very happy to be able to share it with you all.
let me know if you have any questions for I will look forward to answering them.
    Cheers,
    -Càrn

I love your videos! Just skimming channels and found you. Just ran across this one too and subscribed. I'd get this brand of gear if I hadn't already filled my emergency kit to the brim...lol. 75 is hard on us ladies and it's not like some 40 yo guy packing a bug out bag for the truck. We need a different carrier, extra supplies, and a mule to carry it. The guys I know these days wouldn't know didly how to use an axe or carry anything over 5 pounds. I was raised on a farm slinging 50 pound bales of hay all summer in the heat! Today they all want to live in the "city" so things are handy to them. If there ever is a real disaster kind of emergency, us old folks will be up a creek with only people like you to help us survive. So thanks for your common sense and willingness to teach us beneficial stuff.. I've learned a lot by hard research and upgrading to better equipment as I learn. ie I bought a cheaper tent and a tarp to go over it to keep me dry. And I have several ways to get a fire going even getting fatwood and dry twigs. And yes, I have Bic lighters for backup!!😮

Looks like the woods behind my Dad's house in upstate NY.Like you, I find I can pack more in a pack without all the pockets etc. Have to unload everything, but, for me if it's not raining, that reminds me what to do next, what I have, and where things are in my bag...lol. 75 remember!!!

*Scandi Grind Knives are Ok as far as wood work goes…However, for food prep; nothing comes close to a folding ‘Opinel # 9’… phenomenal slicing action and great all rounder..!*

      @TheLoreofBushcraft  9 месяцев назад

Hello, yes indeed, I have 5 different varieties of Opinel knives including the Opinel Slim which is razor sharp and thin. I have used them in my previous videos. I planned to do some carving with my new Skog knife from Helle but I ran out of time, however, many have said that it’s great for cooking as well since it’s super sharp, and I agree. The blade is also triple laminated stainless steel which holds up incredibly well to moisture whilst cooking. Also the Mora #2 around my neck is great for food prep. Those are my reasonings.

Hello Steve, for years I use to just lay the trap on the ridgeline but that can cause damage, although the tarps I used were Bombproof.
With this new tarp of thinner material, I don’t want to take a chance.
Old School is the way to go, quality equipment that will not only last but take on the rigours and punishment I deal out.

Hello mate, one would think so right??? Anyway, RUclips is a business like any other, so in order to get noticed one would need to advertise and it cost a great deal to do so on RUclips. Regardless of content, one must invest. It’s the hidden secret.
Most RUclips channels do it when they start off and also to pump up the viewership on a video they put out weekly (the more views people see the more prestige in their minds, so the more they are willing to watch it).
There are videos out there a only couple days old with a million views, they didn’t go viral, they were promoted through RUclips. It’s around $15000 thousand dollars to get 1 million views. Even if you have 100,000 subscribers, only about 35-40% of them, are gonna watch a new video so you need to promote it to get more viewership, which in turn you also get new subscribers. It would be nice if content alone determines the success of one’s channel, but as they say, “if it were easy, everyone would do it.”
A lot of channels survive through the support from Patreon because RUclips is minimal income, however, the more you put into RUclips, the more you get out of it.
Thanks for letting me know you appreciate the adventures.
My channel is just the love of the outdoors,a thriving in such, and a shared mutual interest in Bushcraft. It has also been a way to document these cherished Adventures for life, and if I can bring all along for the ride and that’s all I get out of it, then it’s worth it. Glad to have you along.

Oi mate, leaves are too much work and and carry a lot of Ticks (although I do use them often). The Moss was just so readily available that I even used it underneath my ground cloth for a sleeping mat. I don't think I ever use paracord, but I do use Bankline often. I used it on the spine of the Tarp. I do prefer traditional line and traditional kit, but as you can see I do mix it up. The rope in the video comes from Bushcraft Spain and is waxed, oiled and treated, it makes for excellent rope, however, you're not going to want to cut it, so I use thick twine instead.

Hello Lynus, happy to hear that, traditional is the way to go. My ruck weighs 2.5 kg and 15 to 20 kg when full. The thing is that it's not the weight of the pack but the equipment one brings along. And the less equipment you bring with you the more work you will do out in the field. Also, the more skill the less you carry.

Hello Ric, thank you, nature provided a beautiful spot for me indeed. It’s in the northeast states. Yes, I returned the Moss because I believe in leave -no-trace principles as much as I can apply them. Right, I don’t normally filter my water if it comes from a flowing mountain source (nature’s tap). I do filter or boil my water if it comes from a lake or a standing pool. I am 50 years old and have been nourishing myself from the outdoors nearly, all my life and I’ve never had an issue. However, I do encourage anyone I train or who asked for advice to filter or boil their water from the outdoors to be safe rather than sorry. Great input thank you!

I placed the order on September 14th. Question is, how long did it take to get your stuff? I emailed them, and asked them if they use DHL, and they said they do and I'd get an email with tracking number, but haven't heard anything for 3 weeks now, and sent another email on the status. I'd hate to cancel my order but, I'd like to know as I explained to them I planned on using this stuff on an upcoming trip. So for me it would be shipped from Spain to United States (NJ). • @TheLoreofBushcraft
      @TheLoreofBushcraft  Год назад

Hello Cody, I was just out in 7c degree with a wool blanket and my raised bed. I needed to feed the fire all night. Also, you can’t really wrap your self in the ground sheet because it’s too narrow, it would definitely need to be wider to be used in a bedroll and would need lashing loops.
In the winter it’s more of a warm and toasty bedsheet, and in the summer, you can lay on it with minimal padding and be completely comfortable. You could even wear it to protect yourself from the elements or just because it by the fire.
