  • The MyMedic MyFAK Large is a multi-person first aid kit designed to treat everything from minor headaches to life threatening bleeding. In this video I go through what I like and don't like about this kit and discuss what I will change before I use it as a car first aid bag.
    Buy here:
PREPMEDIC20 for 20% off all MyMedic Products
MyMedic recently bought RATS TQ (which I am not a fan of). If you are buying a kit from MyMedic my recommendation is to message or call MyMedic and ask for a SOFT-W or CAT to be put in the kit instead of a RATS

Rat tourniquets are great. You can use them to tie down a Christmas tree to your roof, or maybe clean up some messy wires behind your computer. I think a rats is as good or better than Home Depot twine.

Serious question, what is the reason people knock the RATS? I have a couple and tested them out and confirmed I don't get a pulse when they're applied. I carry both CATS and RATS in my EDC bag. I really would like to know what arguments there are against them so I know if I have to throw them out.

Come off with patient movement, difficult to apply, especially when saturated with blood, high occlusion pressures which cause more tissue damage and pain then others on the market, loosens over time, no appreciable advantage over CATs which can fit on an extremity 5cm around (smaller limbs then that can be managed with a pressure dressing due to lower blood pressures in pediatric populations). K9TECC recommends the SWAT-T, not the RATs.

@@GmanTalks apply one to yourself. Full pressure. I’m rather sure you feel immediately what makes them bad. TQ are always painful. No need to intensify that. Better use SWAT-T and CAT. I have both, use both. Swat-t best for pediatric and K9. Or they double as pressure bandage or to apply a splint or so or stabilize an ankle. No need for Rats.

Thank you guys for the info! I spent some time doing a little more digging around and finding out other issues with RATS. I'm definitely retiring them. It's a shame that the marketing is so effective and there's so many people pushing these. Seriously, thank you!

High occlusion pressures that cause more tissue damage and pain, routinely comes off during patient movement, proven less effective then every CoTCCC TQ on the market, proven longer application times, K9 TECC recommends the SWAT-T and children who don’t fit in a CAT don’t need a TQ because of their low BPs

I post this on every IFAK video I remember to.
If youre not in a warzone with people who have already been screened and denied over diabetes... you need glucose gel in your med kit.
Glucose gel comes in packets with 15g of glucose. 15g of glucose is the suggested dosage for hypoglycemic diabetic shock. And gel (unlike tablets) can be administered to an unconscious patient.
Add glucose gel packets to your med kit. You will be around more diabetics than GSWs anywhere outside the military.

Trail Recon's channel reviewed the smaller condor style pouch version of this kit.
Also, regarding the hard to find because of all the pockets, always look in your kit! Get to know where things are, see if anything is missing, and/ or add or replace items.

Also, the great thing about kits like this is that you could rearrange and customize the setup (e.g., move MARCH-E all up front and to one side and move the rest of the kit to the other side). Also one thing you would want to do with this kit is situate anything relating to trauma with the trauma gear (i.e. tape the lube to the npa package, move the gloves to a more accessible area, etc.). Like you said, always got through your kit and set it up for the simplest ease of use in emergency situations

Pretty nice basic kit. It covers a lot of areas and would be good for an average person to keep in the car and/or take it camping, etc. The one downside that I see, and you touched on it, is they use their own "home brand" materials. I have certain personal preferences for items like HyFin chest seals, SAM splints, SOFT-W or CAT tourniquets, H&H H bandage pressure dressings, etc. Some items I'm willing to pay for the peace of mind of what I consider quality items. And the price for this set-up is a little more than I would be willing to pay for a kit filled with other than optimum (IMO) materials. Good, honest review. Peace.

Depends on your definition of General pain. Obviously, APAP and Ibuprofen are the two standards and work well alone or in conjunction with each other. If you want more, the next step is a hydrocodone/combo drug with either APAP or IBU. As for a shot, Morphine is your old time, best drug to use. Although I have been forced to use Fentanyl occupationally, I am a firm believer in the use of Morphine.

THANKS FOR THE REVIEW!!! i have looked at these guys before, and i have had several questions that i could not find answers to. you answered a few here today, again, THANKS for that!
the biggest question remaining is where are they made? i assume most stuff comes from China, but where are the packs assembled?
beyond wanting to know that kind of stuff, i have been wanting a kit bag about this size for my truck, and have often wondered what you or SkinnyMedic would put into it. i like Rescue Essentials stuff, they seem to make a good pre-built kit. like i am not really into the tactical side of things ( although i do have some things that lean that way ), i am looking for more the basic everyday life stuff. something that could handle issues from a mild headache to maybe a broken wrist. it looks like this pack could. but i still have my doubts.

I like the idea of this kit, but my main worry is the RATs and the mymedic branded chest seal. I'm sure most if not all the other mymedic stuff is fine, but with something like a chest seal, and tourniquet it's one of those things you don't wanna test, only to find out it sucks when there's someone dying on the ground. Of course it's all replaceable, just feels like it defeats the point of the kit, at least a little bit

For those on a tight budget were to save and were to invest as priority?
I've seen a pen, keyring and cotton bandana used as a successful improvised tourniquet for example... Which frees up $$$ for other priorities.
PPE seems important.. But potentially a place to pick up freebies/giveaways/inexpensive ideas... Gloves, resuscitation masks etc.
Can a resuscitation mask with duct tape or similar be improvised as a chess seal?
Is it worth buying sterile non stick dressing and than wrapping in a clean Tshirt upcycled to back bandaging?
Are disposable female sanitation pads suitable as a non stick dressing (they are not sterile, however should be clean as often individually wrapped)?
Basically if you had only $20 or less per month to work with, how would you priorities building your kits?
From edc kit on person to car kit, to sport/camping /range etc?
What everyday household items can be added to medical? (eg: cling wrap/plastic wrap for burns)

Why do you not like the rats tourniquet? About a year ago I got a four pack to keep in different places. I thought it a good idea as I carry every day. I found out about them on recommendation by John Lovell with Warrior Poet Society. I took him on his word as he’s former army Ranger.

    • @PrepMedic

It has high occlusion pressures, comes off with patient movement, and is objectively less effective then other COTCCC options on the market. John is a very capable dude and has a ton of experience but ultimately medical isn’t his main wheelhouse.

Dont get me wrong, i completely agreed that in the case of a wounded adult, the ideal choice should be a CAT. that being said. I am a father of a 3 year old who can be hell on wheels. if in the event that i need to apply a TQ, a CAT wont fit my 3 year old upper appendages. the plate under the windless is just large enough that trying to get proper fit is almost impossible. this is why I carry both a CAT and a RAT TQ. I can put a RAT on my kid and guarantee it will work though I pray I never have to

I contacted mymedic and they replaced the RAT TQ with a CAT TQ prior to it getting shipped out for the difference in cost. So points to them for that, but they shouldn't be using the RAT TQ at all.

@@RexPatricius the kit that covers much more of the minor scrapes and the like is the Bear Independent adventure kit vs the IFAK. Much in the same manner of comparing different kits need to compare the similar purpose kit to each other. It would be like comparing this MyMedic pack to a mass casualty respone kit and realizing that this kit barely covers enough for a single victim let alone a 2+ victim incident.

What a good first aid kit that is accessible on Amazon.ca that I could just toss in my backpack and go?

    • @Tommymad1
      @Tommymad1 3 года назад +1

I did a good bit of searching on there a while back. There's nothing good there. If you want a ready made one, my favorite company is the high threat innovations trauma pak. If you wanna build it yourself, and amazon is the only option, there's a good bit of medical equipment on there, take a look at a list that's on one of those trauma paks, or any other trauma kit, and buy the parts individually, and get a bag that suits your needs. It's not recommended to buy medical supplies on amazon, but as long as you look at the seller, and they're reputable, you should be fine. Just make sure to check for fakes
