Senehedheera here. For anyone wondering why I'm so scatterbrained in this episode, during these recordings I had some fairly serious issues with my sleep, having come off the back of a related seizure months earlier. I've since had to take a year off my PhD for counselling, psych evals and to be seen by a sleep specialist. I was most out of it this episode and I'm annoyed at my tedious performance conferring as captain, despite my teammates doing their best. I wanted to mention it here, if not to excuse myself a bit, at least to highlight how great my teammates are that we still won safely. And for anyone that thinks recordings are smooth sailing, they're anything but.
    Also, thanks CosmicPumpkin for uploading!

At least, delaying a bit gave your teammate Dan Grady time to hear the crucial passage so that he could come up with the right answer “Ultravox” 17:18. You and your team still put in a great performance, even without considering your particular circumstances-I doubt Birkbeck-London would disagree.

Thanks again, CosmicPumpkin! Was a close match until the winning team pulled away. These questions obviously did not fit the losing team''s skillset. That often happens. The good news is, we get to see both of the talented and likeable teams again! My best to both teams, and each individual.

If the purpose of a 'test' is to maximise the difference between two teams, this week's questions were sufficiently diverse to provide that effect. Not only were the scores considerably lower than in the opening rounds [in which both these teams got scores close to 200], but it was only in the last one-third of the show that Manchester pulled ahead.

The question at 5:40 is incorrect, and not minorly. After Malcolm III's death in 1093 (not 1097), the throne was seized by his brother Donald. There was then a dispute between Malcolm's sons and Donald, which resulted in first Duncan, and then Edgar becoming king in 1097. 2 kings and 4 years skipped, not sure how that slipped through the question writers

As questions that require teams to answer nested questions usually are.

UnHerd’s resident egghead asked the BBC press office if it could confirm whether there was a part of the selection process which assessed a team’s diversity. The response came back that “for over 60 years University Challenge has set out to reflect the UK’s student population and continues to do so. The latest series has continued that important tradition.”

Given the comment from the Manchester Captain below, I'm inclined to be less judgmental, but the 10/31 and 5/21 bonus rates don't inspire confidence in the future prospects of either team. Here's to hoping the other QFs are higher scoring as that's the second sub-300 game in two weeks; a trend I'm not a huge fan of. But maybe the questions were nastier here?

It genuinely got them to the right answer a few times, however. Whereas one team this season seened to be wasting time in a closer match - and won by a mere 20 points.
I wonder whether a time limit might be inevitable, though. I was on a pub league team (no buzzers) for 13 years and it was 40 seconds for your own, 20 if passed across. That speeded things up, since if the first team really doesn't know it's in their interest to give their opponents less time.
