    History
    Sikkim was a sovereign political entity before becoming a protectorate of India in 1950 and an Indian state in 1975.
    Other names
    Sikkim is known as Su Khyim, which means "new palace" in Limbu, and Beymul Demazong, which means "the hidden valley of rice" in Bhutia. In Hindu religious texts, Sikkim is known as Indrakil, which means "the garden of the god of war, Indra".
    Some recommend visiting Sikkim in the second week of September and October to see more natural scenes.
