My home room teacher back around 1971 made the mistake of asking our class "Does anyone know who Jeremiah was?" She clearly expected a Bible reference, so she clutched her pearls (literally!) when one of the boys screamed out "JEREMIAH WAS A BULLFROG!!" and we fell out of our desks laughing. Poor woman thought we had all lost our minds lol.😂
Hilarious and then some. I've occasionally had some of my teachers and entire classrooms roar with laughter from time to time. This song came out the year following my birth, and I never heard it until I was 13. I watched it get performed at a karaoke bar when I was in my mid-to-late-twenties. Despite having heard it only a few times, I find it SO memorable. Especially THIS video.
I remember in my orchestra class my teacher gave us the sheet music for Joy To The World to learn on. We also played it as a medly following Proud Mary by CCR.
Being named Jeremiah. When I was doing ap studies in college and had to attend different religious locations in Dallas a megachurch with like 12000 people had me come up the the stage while the leader had them all song this song to me. At the time I was shy and turned bright red. Bit after that I just have to laugh when I hear it lol
was a senior in 1971 and friend who is no longer on the planet would come to school at least once a month with a bottle of wine and we drink it behind the gym, thus sing always brings him alive for me
My choir teacher at a Christian school taught us this song when I was in the first grade. 😂 I think she edited it or something because I wasn’t aware of some of the lyrics until my husband and I were having a conversation decades later.
The parents who complain now are from the previous generation, saying that the younger generation is the problem doesn't make any sense because it would be their parents that are complaining which is the generation before the children. It's not the kids fault that they have bad parents from the older generation.
Growing up as a kid in a nebraska farm this song was introduced to me in the 70s by two older sisters who absolutely loved Three dog Night. Growing up was so much easier than it is now
My father was a musician and he always sang this song and all the kids loved it! He's gone now but it's songs like this that make me think of him and smile 😁
I sung this song out loud walking on the beach on a beautiful summer day in Cape May N.J. and an elderly woman started to dance and said this was her wedding song.
A boy I met in school (6th grade-of 1971). Found he was 23 hours older then me. (Homeroom 6-19) Taylor, mi. Break Junior High School. I heard this song in local junk shop with my family this past weekend. We go out for drives every weekend and just ride around town listening to music like this. I hope y'all are having good days
I was 4 years old in '71. My neighbors and their daughter Wendy, who was my age, drove up in a brand new Cadillac convertible playing this song through a cool, hi-fi 8-track player. Some things are meant to be remembered...
Being the a ge you are, I'll bet you well remember music on AM radio, I was 7 (soon to be 8) when this was ripping up the charts, and hearing it any way at all was a treat!
So funny, I’m homeschooling my granddaughter and we were doing these Backpack nature books. We were doing the Nature Trail book and came to the part on frogs! Bullfrogs we’re on the list and I started singing “Jeremiah was a bullfrog” but didn’t remember all the verses so to entertain my granddaughter I played the song for her and sang along! Still love it!❤❤😅

I had my very first date and kiss to this song... SWEET INNOCENCE... We walked to a soda shop, played pinball, had a soda and his big brother drove us to take me home by 8:30pm. I was 14 and it was a school night... I was surprised he asked me out and that my MOM said I could. He was sweet.
This has to be one of the happiest, fun songs ever written in popular music! I saw them perform this at the beach in 1996 and everyone was singing and dancing! Peace, BobbyK
I learned to dance to this song back in 1970. All through high school my car always had at least three or four of their 8-tracks laying in the seat. And fifty years later I'm going to finally see them live on December 1st...from row 29! Oh hell yeah! 😎
This song is special to me. My mother played this song all the time, all my life. She died pretty bitter and angry at the world, but I like to remember the shit starting smile she had when she'd tell me about waking up her nanny with "Jeremiah was a bullfrog!"
I saw them at a fair in Kansas around 2007 for free. It was super fun and while.we only knew like 2-3 songs, we enjoyed it! My Mom says Red Rocks (she's a big Avett Bros fan) is the BEST place to see live music, ever. I've yet to visit there, maybe someday...
My grandma loved this song and would sing it to me all the time with the biggest, brightest smile. Once I was old enough to remember the words and could sing along her smile would get even bigger and brighter. This one was her favorite and she also LOVED Shortnin' Bread! I’m currently spending time at my ancestor alter communing with my maw maw and OMG I wasn’t at all expecting to end up here lool it’s not that I ever forgot these memories, but a tsunami wave of wildly vivid detail just swept me away and pushed me under into the peaceful bliss I felt in those moments….due to life and whatnot I don’t have the luxury of vividly remembering small moments like this….the trauma has unfortunately almost always taken center stage when I attempt to reminisce. The normal moments up to the best memories I tend to only be able to remember a vague sense of fond familiarly (ik ik but that’s the easiest way to explain loool) but literally NEVER been hit in this kind of way. My grandma WAS and still IS my person and for the first time in 9 years, 2 months and 23 days….THEE FIRST time in 3,373 days….I didn’t have to “attempt” to remember the details of the moments or even just her voice….I was pushed directly back and fully immersed legit as if it was currently happening. My grandma always made me swear that when she passed on that if even I was sad that I wouldn’t cry because “we’ll never say goodbye…just see ya later!” and I’ve been surprisingly good at keeping that promise…until this moment. .. God, I miss the hell out of that woman and I need her right now more than ever, and to experience what led me here is NOTHING LESS than spiritual communion with the one person I’ve always known would show up and cover me in unconditional love through hell and high water. She proved that even more tonight. Even now….she effortlessly crossed the barrier of Death itself JUST to come sit with me and sing along to our song for old times sake. She is quite literally my heaven and stars…I’m honored to know she’d still move them with ease, without a second thought, across time and space JUST for me. I Am Abundant because she was so full of God she overflowed. She baptized me in her Asè intentionally and gently…lovingly…slowly bought me up for air. Because of Her I know my Egungun. She probably never once heard that word, yet I am ONLY able to truly understand, innerstand, and venerate my Egungun because of the wisdom and “plain ole horse sense” (as she called it) she instilled in me. You brought me to tears reading your story. The only reason I am here right now is because I pulled this up to show my granddaughter that the song I was singing earlier today was real. She loves when I do this because I have showed her my things from my childhood. Although I was a teenager when this song was out. Thank you for your story beautifully written. Bless you and her!

Yes,I agree .
I sung this song out loud walking on the beach on a beautiful summer day in Cape May N.J. and an elderly woman started to dance and said this was her wedding song.

It was the late 60's. I was just a little kid, went to the church at the end of the road with my sister with little dresses and white gloves on..a different time. Changing times but not brutal or ugly.
