The context of this song makes it even more impressive. The writers, producers, studio musicians, singer, backup singers. Any of them could have said you know what this is a silly children's song for a cartoon we don't need to put in much effort. Instead they made a masterpiece.

Fun fact: Sugar Sugar was played on board the Apollo 12 command module on the way to the moon. The crew loved the song, which came out the same year, 1969.
This is my parents song (my moms name is Kandy) and I remember being a little girl watching them dance in the kitchen to this song! They are both in their 70’s and have been married 53 years! This will ALWAYS be one of my happy songs!

I always remember Archie 's comic. I had a huge collection. Every week I enjoyed stories about Verónica, Betty, Carlos, Archie and Torombolo. On Saturday 's nigth I never missed this show, Archie's program, with my best friends.😊
When I was little every time we went to the store my mom would get me an Archie comic....good old days 😊good memories.
So the show Riverdale is supposed to be a film version. I never saw an episode though.

The harmonies on this song are pure perfection.
im 22 years old so i never saw this on release, but i can tell you its timeless because it STILL contends with modern music today, if you listened to it you almost wouldn’t notice a difference! Sugar Sugar just sounds more authentic and fun! Maybe its the instruments and lyrics that make it so timeless 🤷🏽♂️

It was here in Germany No. 1 in 1969, i was 10 Years old, and it was played all day long in Radio. TV was not so popular that time, except Enterprise and Bonanza :-) . The good old days will not come Back. Our live was outside with friends.

I remember watching it in the early 90s at the tv cartoon after school in the Archie and Sabrina cartoon
I remember watching this on a Saturday morning as a 10 or 11 year old kid. I thought it was a great song, but I thought it would never go beyond that particular Archies episode.
I was so glad that song took off in popularity, became the Billboard Hot 100 Number one song for 1969, and in fact is such an iconic song even today in 2022.

I am a late 50s years old man. I was in a gym doing a late-night workout one time, there were about 12 other late 50s year old men there trying to get in shape. This song played on the big screen. Everyone stopped their
working out and just stared at the screen. Fantastic song, still stops all the boys from back in the day.

Ron Dante lead vocal, written by Andy Kim, heard it EVERYWHERE in 1969. Later in 1981 the group Starzon did a impersonation that was medleyed with Beatles songs and that hit the charts big then. So it got a 2nd chart life.

Very few songs make you happy every time you hear it. This is one of them. Watching the Archies cartoon every Saturday morning was pure childhood fun. It all comes back every time I hear this song.

Dallas McKennon was his speaking voice. He's probably n3st known voice wise besides Archie was his time at Walter Lantz with Buzz Buzz.Buzzard from the 1950s onward Gumby and his various Disney projects in animation and the parks.
1969 was one hell of an amazing year . the music and fashion of the mid to late 1960s are amazing and wonderful too .

Yet you call this corporate product made for children of middle class housewives a REAL thing.

I’ve always wondered what happens after they say that you are my candy girl like I know they do they’re a little bababadaba but after that you can kind of hear the song fading away I’ve always wondered what it sounded like towards the end
I'm a 90s kid, but thanks to my mom I grew up with lots of classic rock. And I'm so grateful to be able to call this era that was before my time a significant part of my childhood.
This song was a triple whamy; it came out of my own stereo from my 45, it was on the radio, and it was on the television.
