This video shows the students from Gompers Middle School year 2000 hiking the trail at Clear Creek Science Camp. What a blessing to be apart of their journey.
These are approx. 50 students and teachers from Gompers Middle School in South Central Los Angeles at Clear Creek Science Camp located at the Angeles Forest. They are on a hike learning about the varied eco systems located on one of the hiking trails at Clear Creek. Most all of these students had never been outside the city life. A very unique experience for them.
Around 1992 I went to camp Clear Creek with Eagle Rock Elementary in northeast Los Angeles and a school from South central also went with us. Those kids from the other school ruined the trip. We were going to sleep outside under the stars but those kids kept throwing rocks until someone got hit in the face and had to be taken to the hospital. We did still get to go look for Garnet stones. But the whole 2 classes were on restriction and couldn't do much after the rock incident. Some of the kids were so badd in the middle of the night they got toothpastes and put it on everyone that was sleeping. They also put on an outdoor play that was kind of cool in the night time.
I started going to Clear Creek in 1995 with a group of 8th graders from Gompers. I continued to go back each year until 2002. It was always a great time going there. Our groups never shared a weekend with other schools. I have video of 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002. My students still talk about their trip some 18-20 years later.
