You never forget something you learned from someone other than a parent or teacher. I went to school during the energy crisis, with gas rationing, extended daylight saving time and constant reminders to turn off all unnecessary lights. One kid asked the school bus driver why he has the headlights on the middle of the day, thinking it is a waste of energy. The driver said, "Safety comes first. Then comes conservation."
When I was a kid, it said "Unlawful to pass while loading or unloading..." on the back of the bus. I misread the word as "unawful" meaning not awful, or okay.
This one is a rear engine, but some Type D (flat-nosed or "transit" types) do have front engines. There's a cover called the "doghouse" over them between the driver and the front door on front-engine flat-front buses.

It’s a flat-nosed bus, meaning that it’s engine is centered or in the rear.
