I Just Bought 2 Honda Elements

- Yes, you read that correctly. I just purchased 2 2005 Honda Elements with manual transmissions no less. In my experience it’s not easy to find Elements with manual transmissions.
In this video I do a full inspection on these new acquisitions. One of them has a bad engine unfortunately, but it should make for a nice video when I replace it.
Watch the video to learn about the other discoveries I made during my inspections.
Thanks for watching!

I appreciate that you don't edit out your bad guesses to make yourself look smart. You're smart enough for me, that's why I'm here.
Well said.
big time.
Two Elements? That's enough to make a Honda Molecule
Good 1
Just gonna put that in my "Dad joke book".
This will go over many heads 😂😂
I chuckled
Thanks Sherlock.
1928: A chicken in every pot. 2021: An Element in every garage.
And here I always thought chicken was a product of the 1950s 😄
Honda's biggest mistake was ending the Element production. It was a very unique vehicle that served a purpose. Rumor is that they're bringing it back...
It was ahead of its time
Lots of fake rumors of it's return. I've owned two. Love them.
The Element looks more useful than a CRV.
I'm getting old waiting for them to make a new one. I'd probably hate it cause too much electronic crap. Hopefully with Eric's vids I can keep the one i've got for another 15 years.
@@kmccaff9626 Take care of the rust and maintenance and it will be here as long as you want it to be.
That 3 cylinder element sounds better than most modern cars with direct injection and so call "normal knocking"
26:50 "Why did I buy two Elements?"
Me: "Was the second one the Element of Surprise?"
"When you see something you like, get two, for you may never see it again." It's not my quote, but it's a good one. Practical and spacious vehicles like the Element and the Scion XB will probably never be available again. Eric, you've done well!
I’m so pumped that you’ll be putting out videos on these elements. I just bought an 05 with 189k. I also thrilled that two of my favorite online mechanics like these vehicles so much, You and Scotty Kilmer, he’s got a good Element Hype video that’s made me feel confident about my purchase. Thanks for sharing your experience and wisdom!
Best car I've ever owned bar none.
Lil camper really, spend hundreds of nights in it. Pull the back seats unless yer haulin folks on the reg. *And seriously FFFFFFFFF Honda USA.* They stopped making these & stopped selling the Fit which is practically a replacement for these w/ the seats out or flat. Meanwhile you can get a Fit ("Jazz") everywhere else for 22k hybrid. 50mpg ish. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF Honda USA. F em F em F em.
Eric plan. “Ultimately everyone in the family is going to have an element!!! Hahahahahaha”
The "Oprah" of the family. " You get an Element!! You get an Element!!"
Element of surprise!
When you get one it soon grows on family members . My only problem is a reoccurring dream of me getting trampled by a herd of circus clowns piling out of all doors !
Hey Eric, great video. I have a 2008 Element that I bought new. Just performed the 100000 mile service. Only issues was a torque converter at 40,000, but was covered under the extended warranty. I’m 64 years old and I think the “E” will probably out last me.
Always take care of your brakes, because an Element never forgets...
Booooo! LOL
The more the merrier. I have a 2010 Element. Make some more of those sweet sweet repair videos. You’ve saved me boat loads of dough, and for that I thank you.
2005 Element original owner. I love your videos, helps me so much when it comes to keeping mine in tip top shape! 212K plus miles and going strong!
The "flood damage" might have been the owner falling victim to the myth that you can hose these things out to clean them.
Good point! I 'clean' mine out with a leaf blower :D
I was going to say the same thing! I just bought one a week ago and damn near everyone I’ve told replied, “oh that’s the one you can hose out!” Mandela effect? 🤪
@@cowabungask8r haha, nah ... just a viral rumor (or misconception) that will never die.
Canada has a recall on all Elements rear trailing arms where it attached to frame prone to rust. They will put a brace if they can fix it if they can’t Honda will buy it back. This is only in Canada but something that everyone should be aware of
Kind of like how the pinto had a fix here but in the US they disregarded everyone's safety.
@@Oblithian no in the us they provided you with a fire extinguisher and a fire retardant suit 😀
I know about that TC recall too because I got a letter last month. The fix is as you describe but crude IMHO. Check lifewithabox YT channel. Its Canadian and two videos are posted on the recall. There's no serious rust issue on my E there and I'll keep it oiled and inspect regularly so no plans to get the recall done anytime soon.
@@canuckfixit7722 man I hope that doesn’t happen to my Element. I had it serviced at the dealer today and had them inspect the rear
@@HotRod-wv4vm They won't perform the recall service without your consent so you are probably good. Here's what they do: ruclips.net/video/fdlULL2kqpc/видео.html
Eric is becoming the Oprah of Elements. You get an element, and you get an Element, and you get an Element!
Wow dude nice buy, I have an 06 that needs some work but so hyped you’re tackling similar issues and making videos 👍🏻
Link in the description to several videos I've already done if that helps. Thanks for the comment.
Eric, element is my favorite workhorse Honda and you got manual transmission's! They're truly unicorns!
Honda should bring these back. Along with a larger sized version.
A bigger version would just be the pilot
Probably be great as electric. Element-E
@@eVerProductions1 Thanks for chiming in Einstein. I already knew that.
I so wish I could take my Element to you for service.
Bruhhhh! Two MANUAL transmission Elements! Nice!
I’m trying to sell one right now lol
That's amazing! I am looking for one in Ca. I know this is September 2023 but just wanted to say I have enjoyed watching your RUclips videos older and newer ones! Thanks 👍
So you're finally going to talk about the Element in the room.
But don't talk trash about them, cause Elements never forget!
"HA!" -the ostrich from Family Guy
I love the elements! Have a 09 SC. Just bought a 05 for my daughter. You have helped me so much with repairs and great info. Thank you
Cant believe im saying this , but I like a beige car. Also you are a good egg Eric, kind, wise and generous.
Did he go thru the egg tester in the willy wonka movie?
Wow 👏 talk about nostalgia this is the reason why I spent hours of my life following your guides to service and fix my first crv. Love these things can't wait for the new content man.
Please do a excuast repair got a blow out just at the joint of the cat.
You might want to remove the cat and inspect it. Mine had rust holes in it that I patched up with a welder. ruclips.net/video/_1Jl4kvG5WE/видео.html
@@ericthecarguy Eric thanks so much, you really have taugh me so much. I love the step by step the editing is epic. Not sure the wife enjoy the ever expanding tool collection thou. 😉
This has made my day man seeing you back on the element. Looking forward to the updated full service guide.
Have a good weekend bud all the way from Ireland.
I think you should turn that last shot of the grease damage into a PSA.
"ignore me" lol - Those Elements are neat. That 2.4 looks exactly like the motor I had in my 2004 Acura TSX.
Congratulations on your new Elements!
Fun fact: Cargo Khaki is the name of that beige paint color, only offered in the 2005 model year.
Clicked the video just out of curiosity and You still managed to teach mi something. I've gone through my service manual of my bike, long and behold it says silicon grease on slide pins.
I don't know anyone who has owned an Element who didn't love it. Tough to beat the practicality and value.
Wife has a 14 Pilot and I just bought an 05 CR-V 5 speed to replace 07 Outback 5 speed..you just got another sub!
I love ❤️ when you work on Elements
Me too, since I have one.
Join the club.
Bought mine new back in 2006.....335,000 miles later still love it 👍
Nice video Eric. I only had the pleasure of working on one Element during my time at the dealership. Really great cars and super awesome in manual.
I love this video! I’m a women who is crazy about her element 2005 ❤ I both cero miles 😊now with 142.000 miles! I did same reparations with the time when my car needs! But same times I feel like mechanics full me cuz I’m a women! So this videos help me to go n be more confident to ask for things! Thank u for creating this Chanel !! Helps a lot to kip my baby on track !! ❤🚗
Eric made me interested in elements now and I want one
Sounds like good plans sounds like your daughter going to be so happy when she turns 16 nice work everyone gets a element that's awesome @EricTheCarGuy
Eric, congratulations on a fine choice. I have an 05 E, also 4wd and 5-speed. Had it since last summer. 218,000 kms. Since COVID, I haven't been able to drive it around much. Couple of things I have recently learned through my ownership: 1) Get those aftermarket axles out of there. Aftermarket axles have no place in Elements! 2) For the OEM axles that are still installed, carefully inspect the shaft area under the harmonic balancer because dangerous rust builds up under there until the axle "necks down" and fails. Eric O of SMA has a great YT video of how an axle happened to snap from that cause on a Honda Civic. I think that there is a Honda Fit recall in the US for this safety issue.
Smart move on you keeping the beige one👍
Hey Eric in regards to I believe the beige Element where you saw the oil leak near the oil filter/oil pan area; it could be the oil pressure sending unit that is leaking. In my 06 CRV it was leaking out of that and caused a similar oil leak. Replacing it fixed my leak issue. You’re replacing the engine so that should fix that issue lol. Thanks for the video. I love the Khaki color of the element.
Nothing like an engine replacement vid!!
Love the Element, I had 3 for a while, all manual...I’m looking forward for the upcoming video
I am getting the impression that Eric really likes Honda Elements. LOL
I paid $1800 for mine, and I'm doing a full rebuild of the brakes and suspension, about $1000 in parts. Hopefully it's worth it, I do love it!
I'm also impressed that you found two more with manual transmissions. It's why I bought mine.
I wish you were in Florida , so you can do the valve adjustment on my Element
Nice score! You did good there. That rust-free one is pretty sweet! It's rare I get to see vehicles in that good of shape up here in MA. Definitely a keeper after a new engine or rebuild. 👍😎
Being a mechanic in NY seems so depressing, so much rust.
Same here in Michigan.
Home gamer here, worked on my wife's Murano, my old Camry, Q45, and the silicon slide lube is only like $10.
First thing I read when reviewing disc brake jobs was grease swells the rubber boots, so I 'splurged' and got the good stuff. I also general coat my rotor and inside of wheel with anti-seize, along with the bolts, however bought the mid-grade coated rotors this year from rockauto. We'll see how they last in NYS winters. Really shouldn't be rocket science for using the right lubes for such a simple job.
Hey EC! When you turn on the heater does it then become a Heating Element? Lol the jokes continue. Seriously though love the series and thanks for the post!
You sound like you may be out of your element here Sir.Lol.
holy crap to watch you diagnose that thing I mean.... just beautiful. I wish I could have came up wrenching learning from a guy like you instead of fixing my own cars young and then deciding to work on cars as a hobby/profession.
Honestly a pleasure to watch to bust a vehicle down to it's goods and bads really really effectively
side note I have an older element, you really would rather buy a new engine versus rebuild a solid candidate you own? just curious
A periodic table of elements. I claim my $20 you are Eric Mendeleev.
I just got one and I really appreciate your advice and repair demonstrations. All the best on your projects.
You have purchased a Cargo Khaki Eric. Rarest of all elements colors, sweet. Looking forward to new Element repair videos soon.
Ele-mental: "Maybe I am crazy, maybe I'm not"
That beige is called Khaki if I'm not mistaken. It's one of the two most rare colours. The other rare colour being Omni Pearl.
Two of my kids first cars were 92 accords and they both lasted many years after they moved on to other Hondas
Accords are tanks!!!
Eric the car guy, Scott Kilmer and scanner dan got me into fixing my own car some things i was too inexpirienced for and lacked the tools but i got most of the work done. They never had a straight answer for me but they sure did help out a lot! I might sell her now shes worth a lot more because of new parts i put in like a distributor battery engine etc.
Long ago you lost the Element of surprise. Kidding aside you seem like a caring & generous person. Thanks for the helpful videos.
This is why I do my own brakes.
Eric and everyone rolling in an Element. I’m 230k into my 2005 AWD EX MT5 and I don’t remember how many sets of tires. The Michelin Defender LTX tire are heads and tail better then anything I’d run in the past. Running the same on my ‘14 Land Cruiser, same great performance.
I wish they still made these. Ahead of their time
Not the best shape but hondas are always good to have! Two new machines to get family members from A to B. Also very fun to work on in my opinion. Thanks for another good video Eric be well brother
Eric I have an 05 Element and talk about it a lot on my channel where I teach everyone how to make their cars last 25 years. BTW I have a different approach re: keeping my CAT from getting stolen. Spoiler alert: weld short socket extensions all along the exhaust (good luck pipe cutting or using a saws all to get through that). Thanks Eric!
Ya my element get made fun of at work but then I just hit them with a question can u fit a washer and dryer in you suv with no problem the shut up
@EricTheCarGuy when I bought my 2006 Element brand new from Honda, it came with Goodyear Wrangler tires on it. They were garbage and did not last long. I ended up replacing them with Bridgestone Duelers which rode and lasted much better. Btw, I really did like my Element and it was pretty good for unpaved roads too. They are a unique and functional vehicle!
Install a turbo on one if them so I can install one on mine
This is funny. I had an Element in college and out of school doing young guy things. I loved it and watched a lot of the Eric the Car Guy Videos on it. I got married and had kids and sold the element. I repurchased another one I found last summer. They are just too cool to get rid of.
Great video, I've learned so much about my E thanks to your vids.
In AZ, we laugh at rust....😂
I regret not buying a beige manual element years ago, cant complain about the blue/silver one I got but that beige is amazing.
Nice that you found 2 manual elements. I tow with my 2006 manual element. The manual means I can keep the rpms where they should be and never have the auto trans shifting back and forth. 260K and she is still running strong. I use a bit of oil but what old VTECs don't use oil. Looking forward to some more element fix up videos!
i have those goodyear tripletreds on my subaru, never felt more confident in the snow, unfortunate that they discontinued them
At minute 27:00, you show 'your' Element, that you were planning on giving to your brother. What types of wheels are they? Just plain steel wheels? I bought my 2003 DX with MT off the lot on October 18, 2003. She's got 204k miles and I've NEVER had a problem. Love to watch your videos - keep up the great work!
I love ❤ 💘 my 08 Element, about 128000 miles on it, Hope to keep it another 10 years.
This development makes me pretty happy lol I've been following your videos for awhile anyway, but I have an 03 element and I love having a trusted resource to go to for info
A true Element fan like me. 💪Make it six speed. I'm almost done converting to 6 on mine. I got a 05 Charcoal Gray. My 4th one.
Hi there. Mine 2006 AWD EX-P came OEM with Japan made Goodyear Wrangler. Those were the worst tires ever. It would not stop in wet condition to save itself. Went to Costco and replaced them with Michelin LTX within 6 months. The LTX were night and day compare to the OEM. Anyway...take care your family and keep the vlogs coming!
Eric! I just bought my second Element and the floor had a weird warping just like yours. I just took out the “carpet” on mine and the front padding was dripping wet. I live in Southern CA and it hasn’t had a good rain since I’ve owned it. Check under your padding! I’m going to dry mine out but I think it’s such an old paddle that I’m going to toss the padding.
I paid $1000 for my rust free 2003 AWD Element with 191,000 miles on it. It truly is one of the most useful vehicles ever... It is super reliable, even with maintenance neglect. Love the K24! amazing engine.... However - I wish so much I could find a manual trans version :( I was thinking about throwing mine up for $2,000 as is - but hate to think about not having all that utility!
There has been a lot of flooding across NA. I would be very cautious about any used cars nowadays.
Glad you are back into Elements 👍
I've been driving Kumho HA 4 seasons for a few years now. So far so good
If it makes you feel better, I own three Elements. A 2004, and two 2006. The 2004 model has over 330,000 miles. I know everything Eric is talking about. The cars have great utility and after basic maintenance, they will last a long time. The other two Elements have 175,000 and 149,000 miles. All are AWD with four-speed automatics. I keep looking for a replacement car for the oldest but I have yet to find a newer car with such utility.
I have three Elements. A 2003 EX I have owned since 2005, a 2004 EX, and a 2007 SC. Best vehicles I have ever owned. I have a couple of spare engines if you need one.
Awesome video eric, i also appreciate you not editing out your bad guesses, now days i know alot of people who seem scared to make a mistake or scared to try something or attempt to make a guess cause it might be wrong. Thats how we learn.
A teenager learning to drive needs an easily controlled car. I learned on a Ford Galaxy in 1966... long ago... and took the car out a 2-lane highway around a disc-harrow tractor the first day I ever drove with a driver-education teacher reassuring me. I made it OK and did not know enough to be worried.
I just got myself an AWD khaki 5 speed :D great video amigo
I kinda did this same thing on my 92 civic si. I had to drive 1200 kms to work in northern British Columbia and it just wasn’t running right, vibrating and low on power. I put new plugs, cap and rotor, nothing changed. Continued on to my destination. When I got there I unclipped each injector and it didn’t change on one cylinder so I thought bad injector,no big deal right.swapped each injector into different cylinders, same dead cylinder. Car has 462 thousand kms on it.Figured out it was under 90 psi. Drove back to Vancouver island a few weeks later and bought a’14 civic coupe,5 speed to replace it. Still drove the car on 3 cylinders for a couple thousand kms,now trying to decide if I get a new engine for it,I love the little hatchback,it’s been through a lot of shit with me so it’s hard to get rid of it🚗
The Midwest and Northeast are brutal on cars. My Element is west coast car and you can pretty much eat off the frame rails it's so clean.
2004 Element owner here w/185K going strong. Bought a 2016 Civic EX-T 2 years ago which became my primary and handed down the E to my 17yo son. Two months later I missed the E, my son loved the Civic... we swapped. Can't imagine life without her.
I like the beige colored Element the best... It would be worth doing an engine replacement or rebuild. Once the engine is fixed & all the little stuff repaired, you'd have a nice Element to drive around in.
Considering the ripped hook hole was pointing slightly down, yeap, that's the most plausible. The Element was down in a ditch, assend up, and someone hooked it up and pulled like a mad dog, whomever they were, they didn't really know what they were doing, kinda like trying to pull from around the corner.
The sad thing is there is a tow hook right in the middle welded to the spare tire well.
Elements came withe terrible Goodyear Wranglers from the factory. The Element Owners club went to the factory in 07 and we saw them being built. I’ve personally had 5 Elements over the years and pretty much know that vehicle front to back they were put together very well. Good luck with your 2 new ones.
I bought one new in 2004. Drove it six years & about 90K miles. Never had is single problem.
Love my element! FYI paint the underside with POR-15, stops rust problems. Take care Eric!
Before or after rust begins
Eric working on Hondas is my favorite YT content.
I really like the beige manual car .... a friend had one exactly like that one in high school and it was awesome
My family has two. Great little cars and will be getting a new one when Honda releases them!
I love the Michelin defender at2 on my Element. Bigger size 235/70-16. Overhauled my undercarriage last summer using some of your vids. In the back of my element right now is an acura tsx k24 with rbb-3 heads. At 192k miles, a freshening is not far off. Decided a little more power would be nice. Yeah, I’m keeping it.
Eric, it's always the same with you. Always the same. It doesn't matter what you do, I end up learning stuff that can be applied to other vehicles. It's not that I find it uninteresting that you have 3 Elements in your fleet, it is very cool but I clicked on the video thinking I was too busy to stick around for half an hour yet here I am; half an hour older but a lot more wiser. Take care and have a nice weekend.
This may be the best comment I ever got. Thank you for that.
