What you astutely describe is what's known as Bubblegum music in the industry. New Edition had a few Bubblegum hits when they first started. Think Mr Telephone Man, Candy Girl, Cool It Now and Popcorn Love.
Tevin Campbell...oh man now we're talking. The biggest what if in R&B history. Imo had his personal life not gone south, he woulda been the biggest artist of his generation. Btw, "tell me what you want me to do" will blow your mind. He was legit like 13 years old. He was like young MJ reincarnated.

When he did decide to come back in 2005, he side-stepped to Broadway instead & stayed there for a long time, until he felt ready to give music another try...!!! The good part about all this is that top producers still want to work with him, but this time he's doing things on his own terms... & going at his own pace... without all the industry control & its pressures & pitfalls... & he seems happier than ever, & sounds just as good as before!!! 👍 👍 👍

This is a signature R&B classic right here! You should hear his song with Quincy Jones, "Tomorrow". He was only 13 and the youngest artist have a #1 song on the R&B charts.
That song is sick and was back then too. It was played on the radio every single day back in the day. I have a group of songs that I can listen to everyday and never get tired of them & this sing is one of them. 😂

You can't react to Tevin without reacting to Hi Five. Tevin is from the Dallas area and Hi Five came out of Waco, Texas. Tony Thompson was the lead singer of Hi Five. Beautiful voice. RIP..
I know this might seem like a weird suggestion but Disney released a film in the '90s called " A Goofy Movie" Staring Goofy and his son Max. Tevin Campbell was cast in the movie to play as world famous pop superstar Powerline, which also happened to be Max's favorite artist, and performed two songs in the film called "Stand Out" and "Eye to Eye" which I seriously recommend you listen to. I guess they're not technically considered "real songs" since they were made for the movie but they're still a great listen, especially if you liked this one!!
you need to do some Hi-Five too - the lead singer Tony Thompson was a great singer as well; They had a song called the kissing game, she's playing hard to get, Never should have let you go, Cant wait another minute..
