Hey guys! I'm Dutch, and a big speedskating fan. Let me clear up the Kjeld Nuis controversy, he used the dutch word 'laf' to describe Stolz's lap buildup of his 1500, which indeed usually translates into 'cowardly', but it's also a kind of slangy way to say 'conservative', which is what he meant in this case. In a later dutch interview he clarified his words further. He meant that Stolz as a skater naturally posesses so much pure speed, look at his 500, much more than Nuis himself, and that Jordan probably doesn't even know his own true potential on the 1500 yet. He expects that if Jordan has the guts to open much faster, he will possibly ride even faster 1500s than with his current relatively flat laptimes with relatively minimal decay. And added that for his own sake he's quite happy Stolz hasn't figured that out himself yet 😂 Sounded like he is well aware Stolz the biggest threat and favorite for the season;-) the whole point of his story is lost in translation by the misunderstanding that 'laf' doesn't always mean cowardly, but in this case, conservative. If there is any real essence of criticism at all in Nuis' statement, it definitely comes from a place of acknowledgement and admiration of Stolz's ridiculous ability, and the expectation we haven't even seen the best of him yet on the 1500.

Thank you very much for the clarification on this translation! I’m sure we’ll get some things out of context in the future, so let us know when we do.

Good show. But relax a bit. You sit like shy school boys in front of the camera. Never put your hands under the table. Rule no. 1 in interviews…
