it's from a video release that the band put out at the time, and all the recent CD reissues of Architecture & Morality have included the concert on a bonus DVD, so this one is actually fairly canonical :)
definitely one of OMD's best songs. much of their catalogue is great, but I much prefer an off-kilter track like this to the more upbeat and twee numbers like Enola Gay and Souvenir.
Awesome just awesome. Saw them thos wesk at the Royal Albert Hall. They never played this Georgia Radio Waves This is Helena but still blew my socks off. As did all the dad dancing lol.. Am getting old.. 41 yrs ago when i first heard this.
A superb live act by an unfairly much underrated band! At that time, they were my favourite, especially because of Architecture & Morality! Great video! Thanks
This shows what OMD could have been if they hadn't gone down the John Hughes teen movie path. "Oh my god , what have we done this time?" I saw this tour at the Ritz in NYC. So excellent.
Absolutely incredible! The Architecture and Morality tour must have been something to see in the flesh. Sadly, I was just a lad when this filmed. I only discovered OMD in 83 when Dazzle Ships came out here in the U.S.
I've been a huge fan of OMD for between 2/3 and 3/4 of my life, going back to my Junior High days in the mid-'80s; yet sadly, have never seen them in concert even once. This year in particular, I kept going back to this track. Andy's haunting question in the refrain is certainly personally relevant to me as I futilely review and dissect my reasoning processes for the various major life decisions I've made over the past few years. Paul's otherworldly keyboard line, Mal"s consistent, driving beat, and the overall mood that the song elicits has me thinking that this could have even fit into Ministry's "With Sympathy"-era/earlier live body of work - which as much Uncle Al wants to dismiss, was without a doubt, their best period. Yet unlike for Ministry, there's something quite good to be found in each of OMD's respective stages throughout the years, which is why I'm still digging them, roughly 35 years later.
Awesome u say that.. cuz it does have that synth sound from Workk For Love and almost the exact drum sounds as Here We Go from With Sympathy.. which I got to see Ministry play at several of those era songs at Cruel World and will now see OMD at next Cruel World. Stoked… you should get tix too. 😉
This is the room, this the war, this is the body I've been hoping for,ohy God, what have I done this time, don't know about you but as songs go it climbs all the way to the top as far ad architecture and morality album is concerned.
@thread14 you got it. mccluskey and curtis were mates, he definitely took the opening line and melody from 'days of the lords.' both brilliant songs. i remember someone interviewing omd after 'enola gay' came out and all andy could talk about was his friend dying... it had only happened a month before.
People commenting that they are surprised this happened in 1981. The best cool things already happened. We have been on the downhill in regards to creativity for years now. Many will argue there's still more to be discovered and done, but it can all be traced to the past.
OMD at their absolute best.
Absolutely nailed it...........the drummer knows it's special......
I think that he was the best here!
Watch him playing Maid of Orleans at the same show!
Yep, Malcolm played a blinder at this gig
ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED BANDS OF ALL TIME! This track is as dark and powerful as it gets!
Studio version is really good but this is absolutely fantastic!
This is one of my favorite things on RUclips. Thank god for the archivists, then and now.
it's from a video release that the band put out at the time, and all the recent CD reissues of Architecture & Morality have included the concert on a bonus DVD, so this one is actually fairly canonical :)
Best Song ever by OMD. Guided me through my childhood. Thanks to my dad buying the Album when it came up.
What a crazy version!
What a expresion, anger and vibe. The memento of our time.
Never before have I ever heard Andy *this* angry at a song before!
He's angriest on "Julia's song." Listen to the same concert from '81
@@apocalipsisnow7777 Yep! Really great gig
Architecture and Morality is a good album !
Great
man, this is absolutely ferocious
Totally Class, played this last night in Oxford the place was Rocking.
Can you believe this was from 1981? It amazing how it still sounds so good.
I was shocked when found this song is from... 81!??!?!?! COOOL!!!
Stupéfiant, incroyable, le top, redecouvert 40 ans après la 1ere écoute. Quelle claque!!!!!!!!
Paul is absolutely shredding that Korg MicroPreset! :-D
damn that lead synth just rips... can't beat analog
Used a Prophet 5 for this track. Roland SH2 for the bass synth. Started using Emulators after this tour.
One of the best things OMD ever did.
definitely one of OMD's best songs. much of their catalogue is great, but I much prefer an off-kilter track like this to the more upbeat and twee numbers like Enola Gay and Souvenir.
Masterpiece
I love his voice, so powerful
Fucking absolute rawness. These dudes were into what they were doing without following the trend. Love it...
One of the best tracks ever made, it contains the power, passion and creativity that only youth can bring, so unique, still amazing incredible
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pretty bloody good version of a bloody good tune.
You’re bloody correct
Awesome just awesome. Saw them thos wesk at the Royal Albert Hall. They never played this Georgia Radio Waves This is Helena but still blew my socks off. As did all the dad dancing lol.. Am getting old.. 41 yrs ago when i first heard this.
This is just incredible. Everything I love about OMD in one place.......Brilliant.
Another GREAT LIVERPOOL BAND!!!!
This is unreal❤
A superb live act by an unfairly much underrated band! At that time, they were my favourite, especially because of Architecture & Morality! Great video! Thanks
this is something else
This shows what OMD could have been if they hadn't gone down the John Hughes teen movie path. "Oh my god , what have we done this time?" I saw this tour at the Ritz in NYC. So excellent.
i'm so sorry for OMD for having gone down the john hughes teen movie path.
Great song, good memories, would have love to see the crowd in this live video.
So good! And look at those the reel to reel unit! :)
Who's got tickets for next year? ❤
Cruel World baby
Poor Mal with that light behind him....That must have added to the heat...lol Such a nice guy and a great Drummer.
Wishing, hoping and praying to get tickets to see them perform this Album and Dazzle Ships at the Royal Albert Hall next year. Love this early stuff.
Absolutely incredible! The Architecture and Morality tour must have been something to see in the flesh. Sadly, I was just a lad when this filmed. I only discovered OMD in 83 when Dazzle Ships came out here in the U.S.
Such a brilliant song from an amazing album. At their peak🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Love this and the studio version too.
Andy's guitar playing almost reaches the dizzy heights of his bass expertise. I wonder if he ever thought of teaching?
The opener on AM - sounds great live too!
the bollocks of a tune.....o my God what av I done this time.....Wawaw

Malcolm Holmes, one of the best drummers in the world!!
Nearly died in Toronto during a show in sweltering heat. I saw them twice in Toronto (not when he passed out) and once in Edinburgh.
Wonderful.

Epic! Love it
Amazing
So awesome. I hope they re-release this on dvd or somethin'
Thee best album ever
Thanks a lot!
Brilliant
my first Longplay - and still top 5
People commenting that they are surprised this happened in 1981.

indispensable de l evolution!!!
Oh My God .... ... /.... ahhh mazing!
Super.
Better than the studio version.
This time we live in the real stone age! Colder than the ice age! So wild...
Its probably something to do with the drummer being a fookin genius !
I do take your point though.
zero dislikes!!!
EPIC!
holy fuck
THE FURY
I saw in Pontiac on 3/11/11, and they didn't perform TNSA, much to my chagrin!
Why have i never heard of this band before?
OMD - Synth Gods
40 years of A&M
This was good. :) But I wish the producer had focused a little less on the drummer and more on the other members.
And still zero dislikes,
troppo bella, sto male
Incredible lead synth sound! What did they used?
i think they did, in the british version of the A&M remaster
son una especie de dioses
Proto nine inch nails/ industrial. Dorky yes but nevertheless brilliant.
Does anyone know of other bands that sound like this particular OMD song?
Suicide, Anne Clarke, Grauzone, any of the French/Belgian "Coldwave"/"Darkwave" groups, The Soft Moon, Doplereffekt (if you're into techno)
🎂
Does anyone know any other OMD sounding like this particular song ?
No :D I haven't heard much of their later stuff but they became poppier so I doubt there is anything. Try Electricity Martin Hannett version :)
The Missunderstanding...off ORGANISATION......security lies at the heart of our lives........
Connell McKenna hmm. Bunker Soldiers? 88 Seconds?
Wow, thank you! I actually knew them all but didn't even think about them being similar to this particular take of the New Stone Age. ⭐⭐
Wish he'd given the bass to someone else and let loose with his erratic freeform 'dancing' !
cry out loud
@makuus12 I don't think so i like the other albums including the new album History of Modern
Very punky
the cure
√ x 1000,000 = this
Featuring an invisible banjo player
this is my least favourite song from Architecture & Morality but it's a good song none the less, i like it better live :)
Wish they were still this good :-( Anything after Dazzleships is worthless
I love his voice, so powerful
