    I just got my permanent residency visa in Mexico, using one of the facilitators you recommended. Thank you for that. She was excellent and I was sick so INM ordered me a doctor and he was superb. He determined I was dehydrated and under nourished. He brought me food and beverages. Walked me to the
    Curb to sure my taxi arrived and told me to hydrate, eat breakfast and sleep. I am still tired but I’ve had a couple nightmare travel days with canceled flights, lost luggage and Portland airport is still iced in. I hope to fly back to oregon the19th.

    Hey guys it’s important to note that this process has changed a bit. You can’t just go to the inm and wait now. You have to schedule an appointment using the appointments link on inms website. Super key information. Things get tough because they are usually booked out like 2 months in advance. Nowadays as well most places will process and print a card within a day. The hardest part is the appointment. Highly suggest joining an expat group on Facebook to stay up to date

    I’ve been doing the tourist permiso for the past 10 years! The biggest roadblock is the financial solvency issue. I’ve considered the marriage route (I’ve been in the same neighborhood in SMA for the past 8 years, and a few people have expressed an interest in helping me in this way).
    The tourist permiso and traveling back to the U.S. can be a bit of hassle, but I think of it as a shopping opportunity. I either cross at Laredo or fly to TJ and enter the U.S. via CBX (Cross Border Express, the direct border crossing from the Tijuana airport into San Diego, CA). Volaris flights from Leon to TJ are cheap, slightly more expensive from QRO. On the Texas trips I either head up to San Antonio (which I love) for a few days or spend 24 hours in Laredo, shop at the mall, and head back.
    One time as I was leaving (turning in my permiso) I asked the aduana about the 24 hour requirement, and he said I could come back at the next shift change (just not while he was on duty). Which I did, meaning I was back in the U.S. for slightly less than 8 hours, and on an ETN back home within 10 hours! Gotta love executive class buses!

      Hi, I’ve lived in Mexico and traveled to a few areas. Generally, Mexico has exceptional weather in most cities where foreigners typically live. However know that the Yucatán (the caribeña side, Cancun, Playa del Carmen & Merida) is soul-crushing during summer. Super hot and humid. Puerto Vallarta, Oaxaca (Pacific side) have excellent weather but all areas in Mexico have periods of heavy rain (which is why it’s sooooo green and lush). In Mexico City, it rains June-Oct. Puerto Vallarta is similar. The best year round weather I’ve heard of is Ajijic/Lake Chapala (which also has a very big American and Canadian retiree community). Good luck!

      Hi, Joy! Thanks for watching & I am so glad to hear you're finding the videos helpful. Not sure if you're interested in living inland, but I absolutely love the weather in Queretaro. Lots of sunny days, and while it does get "cold" in the winter (really only December & January), it's nothing a decent coat can't get you through. Much preferable to the Michigan winter I grew up with! There is a rainy season, but it usually only lasts a month & since it is mostly a desert climate around here, we don't have to deal with humidity. For me, it's not never too hot & never too cold. Hope that helps!

    One thing, I have been told by many people that making color copies of official documents, such as your passport, is considered forgery and is illegal. I know when I started my temporary residency process a couple weeks ago here in Ajijic, INM was very clear that everything needed to be in black and white.

    • @alex-wittman
      @alex-wittman  4 года назад +1

      That's interesting about INM in Ajijic wanting all black and white copies. Thank you for sharing! Querétaro INM accepted my color copies without question & when I applied for my visa in Spain, the instructions explicitly requested a color copy. From what I've read online, making color copies of your passport isn't illegal. In fact, the U.S. State Department recommends that travelers do so before going abroad. Of course, if you try to do something nefarious with the copy, that's a whole other matter!

    • @The_Endless_Summer
      @The_Endless_Summer 4 года назад +3

      @@alex-wittman Making color copies of documents in the U.S. is completely legal; everyone I've talked to in Mexico has said it's not here. I think I saw a Tangerine Travels video that said if you get color copies made in Mexico at a licenced notary and get them notarized, then it's ok.

      @@alex-wittman Finally got the card myself. Came to Mexico two months ago - but INM was closed until this week because CDMX was red. Predictably a million people turned up and INM was swamped - but I was able to get in Friday - after going there Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. Procedure was a little different than your experience in Queretaro - they didn't want to see the formato basico. Also were not interested in the tipo infantils I brought - instead took pictures themselves. Took about 3 hours - walked out with a temp resicency card - which was great; had expected to go back several more times.

    Hi Alex, Great and informative videos. I started the process you outlined in Part 1 mostly because I was told that I needed at least temp residency to purchase a condo in CDMX. After watching Pt 2, I'm sort of changing my mind about going through the process. I only intended to use the condo a couple of months a year anyhow. Would you know if it's true that some sort of residency is needed to buy R/E? Definitely subscribed!

    • @trer04

      Foreigners can buy real estate, not a problem. I'm an American mortgage broker working with Mexican developers if you have any questions. If you can prove economic solvency, then temp. residency is definitely something look into because you'd then pass the Bona Fide Residency test which gains you access to the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion, which makes you exempt for the first $112K you earn. Something to think about.

I receive disability which covers about all of the income requirement less 250 dollars, but I will be able to show that with my independent contractor position that I have with a company. I suppose that I will be able to get a document showing my earnings from the contract position to make up the 250 dollar difference and get approved? All in all I will be sure to bring bank statements which will show my deposits from both the disability and the job. This isn't necessarily a freelance job, as I am working for a business independently.. does that make sense? If they give me a hard time I will just go on a 180 tourist visa but I hope they don't.

    One question I do have, I am a smartphone repair technician with his own business in the US, I was wondering what Visa would benefit me the most. And how I would go about proving solvency. I am someone who runs his business peer to peer so I would definitely not have an employment letter, the most I would have is bank statements.

    • @alex-wittman
      @alex-wittman  3 года назад

      I won't sugarcoat it, Darin: the path to residency can be a bit trickier for self-employed individuals. The easiest way would be showing the lump sum in accounts (financial records of the last twelve months of your bank statements with a minimum average balance of $27,213.00 USD per month), but if that's not possible, in place of the letter from an employer, I would suggest bringing in various documents showing that you own your own business. In my experience, the more paperwork/documents you have to show the consulate, the better.

If you're willing to pay, there are translation services available online where you could upload the PDF & get it back in English. Best of luck with your temporary residency journey!

    Do you know what "Cologne" refers to on the Tramite form in the address section?

      Do you mean "colonia"? That's your neighborhood. You should be able to find it when you Google your zip code.

    Alex: If I hire assistance with the processes at the INM office for my Permanent Residency application , is it possible that they might be able to complete all tasks short of my obligation to show up for fingerprints?Thank You!
