Golem and Machamp were originally supposed to evolve when Graveller and Machoke were traded WITH EACH OTHER. So Golem is a Machoke encase in stone, and Machamp is a buff Graveller. Look at the designs. You know I'm right, Ben.
My least favorite designs are the ones totally devoided of creativity. Sinistea’s eyes look like teacup adornments and hangs it’s pinky out when it lifts itself like a gengleman. But what does PIDOVE have? It’s just a freaking pigeon, and that’s it.
Yeah, pidove, thievul, even zigzagoon before it got it's final evolution, luvdisc (adorable but that's all it has going on), stunky, basculin, stunfisk, etc. They're all pretty boring and made me not wanting to use them at all.

And being a lot of them tend to be ghost and fairy and spirits possessing objects is very common in folklore it makes perfect sense! And completely links in with the idea of Animism in Shinto mythology and folklore, But there's SO MANY Pokémon that are just "a bird" or "a fish"

Honestly, it would have made more sense (from an evolutionary standpoint) to swap the 2nd and 3rd stage evolutions. Then the third stage would at least gain a set of arms as opposed to losing a set!!!

Gen 6 briefly brought me back to playing the main series games cause of introducing the whole Mega Evolution gimmick, providing a new spin on some of the old favorites.

Voltorb is based on the Japanese legend of tools or objects (like a farming implement or a paper lantern); coming to life on their one-hundredth birthday. This is so fun to think about; the thrown Pokèballs that people left behind gained sentience and started wandering around and zapping people.

There is this idea that Pokémon design has gotten lazy over time, and while I can't deny some designs are rubbish, gen 1 had terrible/boring designs too, like grimer/muk, ditto, seel/dewgong etc
