I have exactly the same set up and the same colour including the MDF grinder MK1 and the gaggia tray as well I don’t have the steam wand yet but after I’ve seen yours I must say it’s a must have it looks amazing!
Silvia wand should be available most places. A little harder to install than on Classic due to access but connections. If your in Melbourne I could help.
Unfortunately I don't have one any more. It is similar to Classic in that it uses the samd boiler. It has a brass group and portafilter but slightly different from Classic because they do not have the 3 way solenoid but instead use an anti-drip valve (spring a rubber stopper) in the middle of the group. The is an over pressure valve of sorts attached to pump, some of which can be modified to set 9bar brew pressure. Otherwise there is a lot of plastic to replace metal to save cost. You can make a good shot on these with some tinkering. Good luck.
I have exactly the same Gaggia Baby (1999.). Could you be so kind as to write me the exact spare part name and dimensions of the gasket seal? I would like to order a new gasket, but I am not sure if the gaskets for the "Gaggia Classic" model are suitable for me. I read somewhere that the dimensions of the gasket are 7.2 x 5.7 x 0.85 cm, but I'm not sure.
Great Video, really enjoyed it. I have the same machine and also the MDF grinder, bought both for 50 Euros a piece. If you could suggest a good tutorial for restoring aka cleaning it, would be much appreciated, found lots of them for the classic, which is similar, but none for this exact model. Any idea? Thank you.
I will try and do a video and post it soon, sound like their is a need. The are a little harder to get into the the classic but once you are in then you can work on them in the same way.
It is a version 1 Rancilio, swivel not ball jointed steam wand. Should be able to get one for around $40-50 AUD. You can buy 58mm baskets, eg VST or other higher performance ones.
Would you recommend any upgrades to the portfilter and basket? I got this machine second hand and it only comes with a tiny basket and the pinhole attachment which I’m not sure I have to use? Thanks
Hi Alexander, definitely get yourself a normal 14g 58mm unpressurised/single wall basket. You will need a decent burr grinder though too once you start using single wall baskets
Hi man. Not sure if you still see this, but I have a question. I see you have a Rancilio wand on the machine. I have the same machine (actually it is gray, but it looks the same), and I installed the wand. However, it gets in the way of removing the water tank. Does the same happen to you? Or did you find a workaround/different wand?
You need to push the whole wand up into the machine a bit. Essentially you are bending the copper pipe above the wand which is fine. You can open the machine to see what you are doing. You need to push it up about an inch.
You fit it the same way you would a classic. With the older steam wands that have the flange and o ring on them for the panarello, you need to cut this off to get the nut off that secured it to the copper pipe. Once you have the nut then you get the Silvia wand, remove its tip (9mm spanner) then slide off the rubber and its original nut, before sliding on the Gaggia nut and then replacing rubber and tip. Then you can just screw nut into copper pipe. The only other thing you might want to do is push it upwards so copper pipe bends a little and the top of the wand goes up into the machine. You do this to gain clearance for the water tank to be able to slide out. If you don’t the water tank is almost unable to get out.
@@espressorestomelbourne1735I did this and cannot get the original nut from the gaggia onto the rancilio steam wand, it does not make it past the bends in the wand.
@@colinholmes515 you need to destroy the old wand to get that nut sometimes. Hammer the bends so the are not a tight and the the nut can pass along and come off

@@jerperiago I bought it in 2001 and it still works perfectly and has no damage. I modified the pressure spring, installing one which cuts at 10 atm with the blind filter with pressure gauge, that means more or less 9 bars in usage conditions. I also bought a different douche holder, in stainless steel, and a different douche, IMS GA200IM, which requires a much finer grinding. Overall, I am very satisfied. I never make a cappuccino, I only brew coffee, so I cannot say anything about the steam wand.
Hello! I have the same machine but it seems no matter what I do the brew time is 9.96 seconds, 20 Grams. Breville Vario grinder and even on the finest setting its still
Sometimes it is the specific roast with a grinder. In the end it is mainly the grinder. Maybe you need to upgrade the grinder or shim the burs to get them closer together and get finer grind. The only thing you might consider doing to the machine is getting the brew pressure adjusted to 9bar.
I have owned this machine since the early 1990’s. For the life of me, I can’t pull a decent shot. Feel certain it is not the machine. It is mostly likely my fault. Regardless, I wish I could do it right.

Hi I want to replace the stoke steam wand with a rancilio silvia one, can you do a tutoriel for that ? Please
We want more about this beauty !!!!
Any chance of covering the Gaggia Carezza? I have one in storage that was used maybe five times before I fell into the home roasting rabbit hole.

What part # of rancilio steam wand did you use? Can the portafilter use standard 58mm baskets?

Hej, is the Gaggia Baby still available? :)
I do have the Baby setup. It is in Melbourne. I actually have a second one but have not yet overhauled that one.

I have that machine and i find that absorbing the liquid in the tray with a sponge is way more practical than moving the tray to the kitchen sink.
good idea 👍
