I appreciate seeing your process, including the struggles, so much. I also have ADHD, exact same issue of bouncing from project to project, rarely ever following through, going through long periods of burnout. You seriously reinvigorated me to pursue art again after not drawing anything for years.. despite being "sUcH a GiFtEd aRtiSt" as a child. Your art helped me overcome the block of feeling like I'm just not good enough to paint, so why bother at all. I know you also have ups and downs, but your overall energy and encouragement for others to keep drawing is more powerful than you know, seriously. It's not just about inspiring to draw, but to express yourself, often in an abstract, even childlike way, to reconnect with your emotions that you tend to repress as you grow and have too many responsibilities. Ugh, I just admire you so much. Amazed that you can still maintain a "career" and online presence, it takes a ton of work and effort! Can't wait to stop being broke and buy some of your stuff one day. 😁 Thank you again.
I am absolutely proud of you! And yes I am well acquainted with the revolving door of special interest craft and art projects. The way I've kept that in check is every time I revolve around to a craft whether it's one I've done before or a new one I'm only allowed to spend 20 bucks on it XD. So if I decide to drop it in three days I haven't spent a crap ton of money on it and when it comes around again I'll be able to add to the tools and materials needed eventually I have all the tools and then when I decide that I need to make more amigurumi I might only need to get some yarn. I hadn't done more than a handful of art or craft pieces in years (like going on 8 at this point) but two months ago I got super into crocheting again and decided to make a queen size blanket. After that two days lol I started knitting tiny hexagon puffs to start getting used to doing art/crafts everyday because motivation only happens when I'm high (which is a rather recent new development in my life experiences better than the alcohol I was drinking that was making me feel like being in a dark fog for so long). They are small and I can make them in a relatively short time so it's not like a giant project that's completely overwhelming it's just one tiny little puff and once it's done I'm done. After 35 years (I am 37 now) of undiagnosed autism and ADHD I can say when your low emotional/energy/motivation, focus on something small, something doable, something that's only gonna take you 10-20 minutes because no matter whether you have motivation or not I find you can usually talk yourself into doing something for 10 minutes. I'm going to work on this canvas for 10 minutes and after 10 minutes goes by I'm gonna roll around in the leaves, play a game, make some yummy tea, watch a half hour of RUclips, or whatever else. This is also how I've been tricking myself into cleaning my house for years lol 🤣🤣 I find that after a few intervals you just get stuck in on the thing (for example I'll be in my art/craft/game/dayroom and be like OK those five blankets need folding I will get up I will fold them and I'll sit back down and watch a 10 minute video, then I'll get up and clean that shelf and then I'll sit down and watch another 10 minute video etc. after the third or fourth thing I start cleaning I forget about the videos). I find it allows you to take advantage of the small bits of motivation you may have or our brains ability to hyperfocus on things a bit better. Also save things that are motivational for you whether it's pictures on Pinterest videos on RUclips music anything. Every single time I see you, your art (so the blankets on my art room couch 🙃), your videos it makes me wanna dig out of canvas and if I am in the right headspace and have energy to do so I do. I relate to your music a lot and it lifts my spirits when I listen to it. My daughter is 13 and she not only has your hair, she is also ADHD and an artist (animatronics being her main artistic interest) and more and more she is succeeding (just by being her kooky little imp self) on dragging me back into creative endeavors. Another thing I have found that helps is lowering the bar of entry to the craft or art. I have small craft kits which are made up of the tools and materials to make one or two projects. For example I have a needle felting plush kit and in it I have the needles, needle holders, some thread, thread cutter, scissors, a leather thimble, foam work base and enough raw fiber to make a creature base or two. Any other excess materials for needle felting is in a different container in the closet, but the kit allows me to have the whim of making a needle felted figure and just grab the kit and go sit down and start working this way I don't have to spend energy, thought process, and/or time looking for the materials, there have been many times where I've felt the urge to paint but the process of going through cupboards and shelves and digging out the materials and things I needed was the deciding factor in whether I did it or not. My art supplies are very easy to access now too, most sitting out on the desk, but I also have a roller cart and designated shelving by the desk that holds the rest. Wishing you every success 🥰 hugs.
