Adding all these books to my tbr!!!
Thank you!
@@HeyyAdie my pleasure :)
I had never really read much fantasy or sci-fi when I jumped into The Broken Earth Trilogy blind and it was GLORIOUS. Nothing else of any other genre that I've read since has hit me the way this series did. Perfection.
Great concept for a video! I’ve been wanting something like this for classics as well 😅
Highly recommend The Great Gatsby or Pride and Prejudice as classics “starters”
I read the classics before I ever ventured into fantasy.
I have definitely been in a reading slump for the past month or so. I read a book that I thought was going to be amazing, and it just put a stop to reading (for me) because of how disappointed I was in it. Sometimes videos just come at the right time. I really hope that I can get out of my reading slump with one of these books! Thanks ☺
Highly recommend The Fifth Season. It's so different and fresh it's great for getting out of a slump!
This was the best video to wake up to. Can't imagine a better person to deliver it!
Living for these fantasy recs! 😊
Such great recs. I've been following you since college days and you've introduced me to some of my favorite fantasy reads, especially happy I read the stormlight archive ❤. Thanks for the recs!
Love these types of videos especially from you Regan!! Being a fantasy reader I am always on the hunt for more recs.
And then there is me who started who adult fantasy journey with Assassin’s Apprentice- I loved the UK covers and it being a long series broken up in trilogies and a quartet I figured if I didn’t like it, I could easily bow out. Little did I know that Hobb would become my favorite author.
slay
Thank you! I watched this at a time when I was trying to decide on my next read & when you mentioned Six of Crows, I was like 'I've had that for ages but never got to it so this is a sign to finally pick it up' so that's my current read :)
Love your recs! I’m currently reading the Jasad heir from where you talked about on your tiktok, which is great so far after a big reading slump. I’ve been following you ever since 2015 so I always trust that you will have great book picks:)
Great recommendations! I’m adding a few to my already ridiculously long TBR lol.. thank you for this great breakdown
Thank you for this! I always thought I'd be bored of fantasy since I'm a character driven reader, but I really enjoyed Divine Rivals and have just picked up Tress and the Emerald Sea. Fingers crossed!
So many of these are on my tbr! Im reading The dragon republic in The Poppy war trilogy right now and It’s sooooo god. Excited to get to Misborn maybe this summer!
This is such a welcome video at this point in my reading journey especially since you’re such a fantasy expert haha
So many good suggestions here!! I just read and absolutely loved Six of Crows (and Crooked Kingdom)! And currently reading Way of Kings, so I’m all over the place as far as levels go 😆
Love this!
Thank you so much for this video! Love it !
Love that it’s in levels! 👏🏻🥰
Really great video!
Todd here. I loved this video! Great book recs!
This is a great list! A little surprised though that some more seasoned books didn’t make the list, maybe a little Ursula Le Guin or Mary Stewart.
Great list! After I found your channel a few years ago I got into fantasy, and have started reading and loving many of these - so thank you!! A bit of a nitpick, but after hearing Hobb's various titles named dozens of times in your videos I can't help feeling compelled to point out that most of her titles don't begin with "The" (it's Assassin's Apprentice, Assassin's Fate, etc.) The only exceptions I see among all 16 are The Mad Ship and The Golden Fool. I just suppose (not being an author myself) that Robin Hobb put a lot of thought into the titles of her books being as they are.
Refreshing video ✨🔥! Thx
The beautiful ones is such an amazing book the cover is beautiful! Me too one of my favorite books 📙📙📖📚📚📚📖📙🪻🌞📙💜💜💜🌼🌼💓💓🩵💘🥀🦋🦋💙💐💐🌻🌷📙🌞🪻🥀🦋💕💐📚📚📚📚💓🩵🪷🪷🌼📙📙📙📖📚📚📖📙📖💚💚🌸💕💕🦋
Great video!!
THIS is the video I needed.
I have been a big fantasy reader for decades. I have always loved the genre.
I had to DNF The Fifth Season because the on-page child abuse was too much for me. I felt physically ill and had a nightmare after the hand squeezing scene, and that was the end for me. I don't hear that TW mentioned often, so this is a heads up. Very early on, there is very graphic child abuse, and I believe there are numerous other triggers throughout. Be safe reading ❤
With Robin Hobb; you can’t read all 16 books at once. It’s not a commitment to just try Assassins Apprentice, and then if you like that, you can then just read the first Trilogy, after that decide if you want to continue into the entire Realm of The Elderlings. I NEVER thought I’d read Hobb but I just took a gamble and I was intrigued and now I’ve almost finished the Farseer Trilogy 😂❤
Fantasy is by far my favorite genre but somehow I still haven't read Mistborn! Thank you for the reminder that I need to prioritize that series!! 😆
I’ve read these all!!!🎉🎉
I am here to tell the people to read Assassins Apprentice! I’m not a fantasy reader but gave it a go and LOVED IT! I say that you are not committing to a 16 book series straight away, just read the first one, loved that? Read the first trilogy. Loved that? Okay how about this next trilogy. IMO the fantastical elements of the story aren’t complicated it’s just intimidating in its size. 💖
I've been enjoying The Final Empire. I have difficulty staying focused when reading books in general but this one has solid characters and world building
miss peruseproject getting me through yet another lunch break from work!
Piranesi in my opinion is the best book for beginners who’s looking to get into fantasy fiction. Short yet powerful! It was my introduction back into the genre and I’m now stuck on it. My next read is fixing to be the Thief.
Great list that is attainable even for me
So support Tress as a starting point!
Tress is amazing!!!
I love this list, I am a massive fan of both Brandon Sanderson and Joe Abercrombie. I love Brandon Sandersons worlds and his characters are so full of emotions that they are relatable and Joe Abercrombie's characters are freaken awesome, so dark and funny. My son who has never been a reader loves both of them. I loved the city of brass trilogy so much and have been recommending it every since I finished it. I have been trying to get Tress of the emerald isle for a while but it is always on back order, so I look forward to that. Really want to read John Gwynne as he has been recommended a lot. Other series in the lighter categories are Mary E Pearsons trilogy and duology series, both interesting and action packed with Romance as well. Your recommendations are fantastic... thanks for sharing
Great video. I would also recommend Malazan for an advanced advanced category :-)
I haven’t read it yet but I think I would agree there for sure!!!
I'd recommend starting with Warbreaker with Brandon Sanderson cuz it's a standalone and really interesting from the start! ❤
great option too!!
i agree! i started with Warbreaker too!
I totally agree with your choices!! But I have to say, when introducing the poppy war I don’t think you should mention that the plot changes a lot halfway through because some people might consider this a spoiler! Just my two cents, great video~
I don’t know that it’s really a spoiler when there’s “war” in the title of the book
I found Mistborn to be well-written and was interested enough to finish the first book, but it didn't quite "grab" me, so I haven't yet read more Sanderson. That said, I trust your recs (loved Daevabad and Broken Earth) so I think I'm going to dip my toe in again starting with Tress and see how that goes.
Love this list! However I would not call the greenbone saga beginner. I would say it’s intermediate/advanced. I am looking forward to reading Robin Hobb, John Gwynne, and Joe Abercrombie!
Nah..... it's definitely beginner..... very easy to follow
The first fantasy book I ever read is The Way of Kings (Stormlight #1). I had no idea what I was picking up. Oops. But I loved it. Go big or go home.
18:15 THAT BEING SAID THOUGH🤨☝🏼regan’s passion for robin hobb will forever make me giggle
It's so interesting how you categorize book one City of Brass because that's exactly how I felt and didn't continue...maybe I should pick up books 2 and 3
I feel like the series really opens up later on!!!
I immediately dived into the Stormlight Archive when I started reading adult fantasy, maybe not the most approachable choice haha
I love this for you tho lolool
My 2c
Starter: The Dark Is Rising Sequence (YA), by Susan Cooper
Beginner: Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn series, by Tad Williams
Moderate: The Great Book of Amber (The Chronicles of Amber, #1-10), by Roger Zelazny
Advanced: Malazan Book of the Fallen, by Steven Erikson
I cannot recommend Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn enough. If you haven't read it, please do.
i think a great starter fantasy to get used to multiple povs is falling kingdoms by morgen rhodes!
my first full fantasy read with no prior knowledge (like i had with HDM & GoT from the TV shows) was the Wheel of Time 😳
safe to say i didn't follow any beginners guides lmao
Have you read Uprooted by Naomi Novik? I just finished it and wondered what your opinion of it might be (I remember you reading A Deadly Education but not if you read this one of hers!) I really liked that it went in a completely different direction than what I had been expecting
Besides mistborn, which cosmere books do you recommend before starting the Stormlight Archives?
That's a nice dress.
@peruseproject Ciao Regan! I'm looking through your videos because not long ago you mentioned a book but I can't find the video where you mentioned it, and wanted to recommend it to a friend. It was a book about an ex-pirate woman who needs to go back to that life she left behind a while ago because of something that happens. Can't recall if her name was Ravina or something similar. Do you remember which book it is? Thanks!
I was waiting for this video. ❤
Q.if English is not my first language and I am still in the hight school
what are the books that are suitable for me ??
And thank you for the recommendations❤
Hello :)
Would you know if The faithful and the fallen will be translated to spanish in a near future?
Cheers from Spain ;)
I am reading the Stormlight archive series right now and love it! I’m on book 2. Once I read it what is another “advanced” fantasy series to read? I tried Robin hob but couldn’t get into the first book. It felt too slow for me. Maybe I’ll try it again later on.
A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin!
@@jellysolo thanks but I don’t want any spice in my books and I know this one has a lot!
@@juliacash8135 they actually don’t really! the show has a ton so that’s where the reputation comes from, but the books don’t have much at all/most references take place “offscreen”
There must be something wrong with me, i started off With the Dresden Files, (Back in 2009) and oh boy it got me to where I am today. I actually meet the author, and he was super nice! Im still salty about the car though...(spoiler?)
I loved the Dresden Files.
@@FaeryLaume i want more, but im glad my heart isn´t being ripped out of my chest every time i turn a page (if you know, ya know)
@@spiritedreviewexc I do know what you mean. Although I think there might be one or more books at the end of the series that I still haven't read. They were written after a bit of a hiatus and I need to check the series list and see.
Although I think these are all great recommendations, I'm surprised there aren't any older books, or classic fantasy. I mean, not including Lord of the Rings in an "Ultimate Fantasy Reading Guide"? Granted, you might put it in the advanced category... although... most folk I know who love it read it as a preadolescent, so unless schools are totally failing students these days, anyone could read it if they were interested, right?
I know its not a Sanderson book that was mentioned here but the other Sanderson books reminded me of a question I've had. Can Yumi and the Nightmare Painter be read before reading any other Sanderson books or is it part of a series? I saw it at B&N and the summary interested me, but I wasnt and still am not sure if its part of a larger series and wont make sense if I try to read it
You can def read it before anything else!
@@PeruseProject thank you so much!! I am immediately bumping it up my tbr then lol
I read hella fantasy but still watched this video because maybe I’m not doing it right
❤❤❤
I'm disappointed (mostly in myself?) for how much I didn't like City of Brass??? I FLEW through the front half and once Nahri gets to the palace, I found it to be such a slog. :( Maybe I'll try again at some point.
This lost really needs some books that are older than the 2000s
Where would you place the Empire of the Wolf trilogy?👀
Hmmmmmmmm probably moderate!!!
Where’s the name of the wind? 😂
Hi sweet channel
You keep saying mistborn trilogy, but it’s actually more than three books
The 1st law trilogy is totally advansed fantasy... greyish characters, slow moving, character driven. Its not an easy read.
I'd say that it's place is somewhere in the lower end of moderate. The writing itself is simple ("easy") and pretty straight forward. The plot isn't difficult to follow either. Some may call it dark because of the violence, but it's actually quite funny to read how these characters interact with each other.
The Fifth Season by comparison is absolutely Advanced Fantasy with it's superior story complexity and writing style.
I don't know why the booktubers don't make it easier to get the titles and authors. Speaking fast, moving book around or covering it with hand. A little formatting to put the title on the screen for 30 seconds would be great.
couldnt stand jade city because of all the SA and R@p3 and everyone just says "its fine they are gangsters" the fuck? seek help
Love ur dress so much! Where did you get it? Regan 🦋📙📚📚📙🦋🦋📙🪷📖📖🪷🩵🩵💜💝🌞🌞🌺🧡🌻🌻💘💘🩷🩷💙🌺🥀🪻🥀💜🪷🩵🩵📖🪷l💚💚🦋🦋📚📚📖📖🩵🩵🪷🌸🌼🧡🌺💝🌞🌺🥀🌈🌈🌈🪻
So many of these are already on my TBR! The only one I’ve actually read is city of brass 🥹
❤❤❤
You have mentioned Robin Hobb so often that I borrowed The Assassins Apprentice on Libby Audio.
