When you understand that not only is it Prince creating the music, but it’s also him singing the male and female lead vocals on this track you understand what we lost as a nation ❤️❤️❤️
I understand all too well. I've been singing for a long time. I think in harmony. So anytime I needed to do some vocals, I had to sing and layer all parts. From soprano to bass.
The fact that they left this song off of “Originals” just let’s you know how oblivious to his repertoire the people over his “estate” really are. What a blunder. 🙄🤦🏾♂️
A good sound system is definitely the best way to listen to this sound. I think one of the more unique songs he ever did. The different sounds and beats going on is ridiculously brilliant.
@chj2 That's right. Prince would write, produce and sing the songs and then come up with the concept of who and how the songs would be sung. Example, Vanity 6, The Time, etc. He did all of the singing first and they would duplicate the sound and look that he wanted.
I have been looking for Prince’s version of this song for DECADES. I really was hoping that it would be released on “Originals.” Nope. My RUclips Music algorithms just happened to play this randomly yesterday, and I almost fainted when I heard Prince’s voice. Thank you for uploading this!
One of Princes grooviest and sexiest tracks. Can’t believe he gave this to the Family, even though their version is identical right down to the grunts and moans.
Prince gave this to the Family because Warner Bros. didn't want him to release any new material at the time. They wanted him to tour in support of Around The World In A Day. So Prince stripped his lead vocal off the tracks and put Peter and Susannah on vocals. Thus the Family was born.
why not believe it. He had so much, that there was no way in the proper time he could release it all. The Time, Vanity 6, Sheila E, the Family, Mazarati Understanding his 'vision' for and how the proteges albums coincide with his album.
This early stuff is amazing. I love how Prince wrote his music in a way where he was never trying to duplicate the music he’d made before. He wasn’t into being the biggest selling artist. He just wanted to make good music to transcend time & he succeeded. He exhausted all his talent to give us exquisite music and for that I’m eternally grateful. 💜 What a genius

It's amazing how generous Prince was with giving away some of his songs. I imagine if any other artist made such an amazing song, they'd not give it away for love or money.
I agree, I once saw an interview where he was asked what he was most proud of acheiving, Everyone thought he was going to say money/fame/awards, etc. He said when he was 15 or 16 he vowed he would write/compose a song a day for life. The host was dumbstruck and asked where were those songs, Prince said they're at home, they haven't been perfected yet. Can you imagine how much material is in his vault? They had to hire people to get into it, and they reported floor to ceiling stacks of music.
He didn't really give it away though. The Family was basically him, with just Eric Leeds saxophone added, his voice replaced with Paul Peterson's and added vocals by Susannah plus Clare Fischer's string arrangements. Everything else is him, song writing, performing & producing included. I guess he got most of the royalties as well.
Well, The Family, much like The Time, was a “band in name only”. 90% or more of it was the same as any other Prince song. He knew the record label wouldn’t let him release music as fast as it came out of him, especially in his “golden era”. The production, publishing, and by the time of this album, a portion of the sales (since they were on Paisley Park) all went to Prince. That also includes the artistic vision, which is pretty much why none of these bands (except The Time which reformed without Prince’s input) lasted.
@@markraich2076 The part of the record companies not letting him release music as fast as he wanted is true. This was his way around it. Once a producer gives away a song though, it really doesn't belong to them anymore except for a monetary value, which the writer and producer usually took anyway. Awards for best songs often go to the songwriter, which often isn't the artist performing it. Writers give songs to other people all the time.
