I had a 75' 360T for several years, bought it new in Dec of 75'. I could swear I hit 90 once when it was cool and I really tucked but that was in the red in 5th. 6th wouldn't get you any more as the power just wasn't there. I loved that little bike, took it on 200+ mile trips back to the farm many times. I just read in other comments that someone thought the 350 was faster. We had a 68' 350 on the farm but with the 6h gear the 360T was easier to go longer distances. They felt about the same to me, I don't know. Probably down to the condition of the plugs, points and what I had for lunch. Both the 350 and later 360's were great little bikes that could go on the highway but light enough to blast around in the pasture chasing cows with.
Specs used to show 102 - 103 mph as the maximum speed. Never could get mine to do much more than 78 and that was back in 1979. Glad to see that a 47 year old bike still is being put to good use. It is really difficult to work on the new ones at home.
I owned a new 74 CB360, I had mine over 100mph a few times, speedo indicated, laying flat on the tank. I bought it while I was in high school 17 years old.
Of all the 360s that I've owned and built I've never had the balls to get past 75! 85 is insane! Not to mention, you're not running any filters so she's running really lean and probably the reason why you could hit 85.
These old girls are so amazing like how cool is it to go 8 mph let alone 80! You did a great job on this bike. I have a fondness for them I learned to ride on one a lot like this one. I wish I could be around in 50 more years to see what can be restored from today! Somebody will get one of these running when it's a hundred years old haha! Thanks for the show brother I could almost feel the wind between the 3 hairs left on my head!!
I have fond memories of my 1974 CB360. Put 6,000 miles on it the first year I owned it. After that year I sold it to my brother and went with a 1975 CB550K1. Put K&N filters on it, Barnett clutch, electronic points (got tired of them breaking), a 750 gas tank (1 gal. over the stock 360), up one tooth on the trans sprocket, down two teeth on the rear wheel sprocket, rejetted the carbs, up one size on front & rear tires (went with a diamond pattern) and Jardine 4 into 2 headers. Got that one up to 110mph, before the lifters topped out. Put over 50,000 miles on that one.
I have watched several vids tonight of people getting 70 something out of their 74 ish 360. I admire your honesty greatly, I have bit my tongue hearing people claim, 120 mph at 1/2 throttle! Puke. I had an exceptional 360 in highschool and I was always ready to toss the keys to another rider to verify its performance. It spent most of its time between 85 and 90-ish mph. It was 1976, I was 18 and weighed 110#s. One time I ran a long stretch of two lane highway in close formation with two larger bikes. They both reported to showing 105 mph. I was showing 98. There's an incidental lesson in speedometer accuracy for ya, 😆. It held its own beside bikes of all sizes, including the two strokes of the era. On the tale of 350 and 400 triple Kawasakis, 380 triple and 500 twin Suzuki's, RD350 and 400 Yamahas. I was an insane rider but the bike was exceptional! It is a miracle I made it to 64 (years old). I currently own an "03 ZX9R and an '08 KLR650. My CB360T was faster than my KLR650 (of course I was 100# lighter). Was it faster than my ZX9R? That would be a no.
I had a 74 cb360 top speed I hit was 90mph when it was new, sure miss that bike good memories of it it was my transportation in high school. Thanks for the video
This was really great and fun to watch! MAn I have that exact bike in my garage and rode it yesterday crossing 10,000 miles. Been working on it but having a struggle with the carbs running smooth. I bet you would have it running great in an hour.
I had a '75 in high school, my first bike. Bought it new. I took it on an all-out boogie over the I-5 bridge in Seattle once, I'm remembering it is a 5-speed? I had it maxxed out in 4th as I crested the bridge, and pinned it in 5th for the downhill run. It reached redline in top gear on a downhill, probably with a tailwind. I saw about 93mph on the speedo. That was the fastest I ever got it to go. It was fast enough for me to get a few speeding tickets on it. Fun bike.
My first bike was a 1968 BSA 441 Victor. It almost broke my ankle a couple of times when I didn't use the compression release just right. One time I had it up to 87 mph and it felt like my knuckles were being separated on both hands. It was a fun little bike. Wish I could find it again.
I for one would enjoy watching you rebuild just about anything with your humor, skill & dexterity? (although we've seen no bloopers to that effect )..so bring it on Cars,Trucks,Boats or Submarines..I'll watch them all..
I remember from 1970s that the 360 was a little slower that the 350, but that was published data. I'd say 84 is top end for a 360 . 89 for a 350. At those speeds it's the same and you gotta have a huge set to maintain that.
Cool video!! I love the 360's. I had one during my Navy days and did a "Big Bore' kit bumping it up to 400. I also beefed up the cam. It didnt make a whole lot of difference but It was not too difficult to get it to over 100 mph. Believe it or not I did some off-road riding out east of San Diego and the bike did surprisingly well. In first and second gear it would climb almost vertically. Its pretty heavy to be doing that kind of stuff but I couldn't resist now and then.
I had one of these when I was 16. I bought it used in 1979. Mine had a two into one header installed by the previous owner so I assumed the carbs were jetted as well. I think I had mine up over 90 at one time. I later sold this bike and bought a CB400F. While l the 400 was smoother and I think had a higher top speed. I believe the 360t had more torque and accelerated faster.
I have the exact same MotorCycle I am trying to sale it. Its posted on Offers Up right now for $1,900 but I am probably about to reduce the price and there is about 25 extra motorcycle parts that come with it including Harley Davidson parts
If the Yamaha 400 is still around it is nearly a dead ringer for these smaller CBs. Kick start only and at last check $8500+ which is high. The new CB1100 is pretty faithful to the 70s look.
I remember as a young 18 year old in the 70's here in the UK i had a 250 G5. I redlined it and snapped all 4 rocker arms... It was the first engine i ever completely stripped down as the shop had it 3 times and it kept trying to seize up when i got it back. They hadn't flushed the engine
Can't beat your content. Real projects and appreciate the roll your sleeves up tutorials missteps and all. You've convinced me to trade in my 1981 kawasaki 440 for a Z900RS minus the sheep skin seat. Shoot maybe that too why not.
I had a 81 440 years ago I painted the tank that S10 pink color, got teased alot for that 😂😂 You will not regret getting a Z900RS although, I find myself enjoying the CB360 because it is smaller. Thanks for watching!
@@kentuckyyankee It is indeed an overdrive gear, keep it in 5th and rev it out to 10,000rpm ,then change and lie on the tank. Should be around 94mph true.
You have to red-line in 5th gear before changing to 6th to get top speed as 6th is more of an overdrive (you may have heard about oil crisis in early 70's in history books?) I lived through it so yep, I'm OLD 🙄 Overall gear ratio gives a theoretical top speed of almost 130 mph at red-line .
Revs - it needs all of them. Wind that bugger tight thru all the gears. My 350 would show me a (probably inaccurate) 90 plus. She sounds so sweet at 10000 revs!
Do you think this would be okay for riding comfortably at 60-65 mph on back country roads? Dont plan on the highway but dont want to be restricted to the back roads.
I have road this bike on the highway at 65 and higher but it wouldn't be great for a lot of highway miles, it is a little buzzy a gets uncomfortable for long periods of riding, that being said if you're a young dude may not bother you a bit. But yes it is capable of those speeds on the hwy
@@kentuckyyankee perfect, thank you! I’m looking at purchasing one as my first bike and everyone keeps telling me get something bigger. You were close to 88 mph, which is when the Flux capacitor kicks in. Who knows where, or should I say when, you would have ended up! 😄 Great run by the way. Is this bike a keeper??
I always wonder how they get those numbers, I have never had one to get as high as claimed speed, but most bikes I get are in fact perhaps a little worn 😂😂
If your paying attention to what your doing, which you should be while riding a motorcycle, how can you not know what gear you're in? I hear guys on RUclips say it all the time. If you can't count to 4 or 5 or 6 while you're going thru the gears, maybe you shouldn't be riding around other bikes or vehicles.

The 360 has 6 speeds and a 350 (1973) has 5. I'm wondering what the gear ratio difference is in the top gear for each. Is it an overdrive?

I had a brand new CB250G5 back in 1976. A realistic top speed was tested at 82mph, the 360 version should easily top 90mph.
Oil the speedometer cable with liquid wrench or PB Blaster and then with some WD-40

Interesting, i've had my '76 360 in triple digits! Must be different gearing.
I think it had 88 mph with full tuck.
