From our research so far it may be how our cables are oriented that are interfering with the signal. However I just learned a bunch of tricks in this video that I am going to try. I will let you know if anything worked for us!
Yo, Chris! Great video. Well thought-out, well-presented. I see someone else a couple of years ago, asked my question, which is, can I put my own sound/music on the sound pads. I THINK your answer was that the music will have to be on the SD card and somehow played from that? But then where would the interview/mic be recorded? Do you perhaps have updated info? Thanks! Again, GREAT video.
Hi Chris, Good setup guide. The one thing is missing to make this device appealing is a routing option with a mixed out signal for monitoring. You say every person can monitor itself, but if I have a dedicated person to overlook, I can't see any option for monitoring all inputs via routing. That's a bit limiting.
That's right. There are no fancy routing options and there also is no headphone jack for a 5th person to just listen to the mix (or individually check on people). I guess that's something reserved to bigger devices.
Chris, thank you so much… you made this so a new to podcast language person like me can understand.. I like that the segments are labeled… I have to replay… do you recommend a certain power pack to purchase?
Are you able to plug this in while using it, instead of using just the battery power? I want to make sure the battery doesn't die while in the middle of a podcast.
Question: If I'm on a conference phone call and want to play music so others on the conference call will hear the music along with me speaking at the same time, is that possible with this product? What I've been doing is using my Beats Pro headphones and plugging one side of my headphone into my phone for the call and plugging a music source into the side of my headphone and that's how people are hearing music while on the conference calls. I'm looking for a better solution. Would it be possible to make a phone call to my conference phone line, plugging my microphone and a music source so that everyone on the prayer line can hear me and the music being played? How can that be done? Could you help me or if anyone here have any suggestions? Please let me know!!!!
Best regards. Why don't the sounds of the pads come out in the final mix that arrives on USB, Ch4? Neither does the interlocutor hear them in a phone call via Ch3? Note: in hearing aids you can hear. Could it be that this equipment came damaged?
Great job you help me out a ton!!! I'm so excited I can't even... like can't even speak English even though I have been speaking snglish for like 30 years
Hi Chris, great videos, Thank you. Can Podtrak P4 be connected to the Atem mini pro so you can control audio of your XLR mic? I was thinking like XLR mic is connected to the Podtrak P4 with your sound pads and than you connect it to the camcorder and the camcorder is connected through HDMI to the ATEM mini pro? Does this work? Can the mic be connected to the camcorder through the P4? THX
Hi Čarobna, that would absolutely work. You would, however, have to use one of the headphone outputs and the quality may not be ideal in comparison to an audio mixer that can provide a Line signal which you could then plug directly into the ATEM Mini. With the P4 Headphone out connected to the ATEM Mini you would be able to level multiple microphones into the mix, send all that to the headphone out, from there either to the camera or to the ATEM Mini directly (in which case you would also have to set the audio delay to make sure it's sync with the video). I am actually also using the ATEM Mini nowadays and I use that combo with the Zoom F6 and it works perfectly. Cheers and happy podcasting / streaming / etc.
Hi Thanks for a good review video. I've a query - When I switch the Device ON it is asking me to set up the date and time. How can I set it up so that this screen doesn't come up every time I switch ON?
The internal clock of the P4 is held up by the batteries. Usually, if you just switch the batteries within a few seconds to new ones you will not have any issues. But if you leave them out for longer the internal clock will reset and you'll have to set it again. So having batteries in should solve this.
Thanks a lot for the informative video. I have one question - is there an option to connect earphones that can monitor all the channels at the same time? like a central point of level control by the recorder? Thanks.
Thank you for the video! Quick question: We went to record today, adding a guest (so with 3 mics). When I went to play it back, the mics all recorded individually. For example, you can hear mic 1 just fine and the other 2 people are talking but it's in the background of mic one. Is there a way to avoid this? It's probably something simple but I haven't been able to figure it out! Thanks in advance!
I connected the Zoom P4 to the computer but no sound from the headphones? I can hear my own voice but no sound from videos I open from youtube? I'm sure I have the sound settings right, I can't hear my friend in Discord, but I can listen to my own voice.
I’m literally on the road to grab a P4 atm but from my experience with interfaces in general, it sounds as though the P4 is not selected as your output
thank you for the video . i have a question to ask how can I record music by podtrak on sd card from my Korg keyboard imean any instrument which I play for the record on sd cad in podtak. many thanks in advance
Do you mean with the Sound Pads? Yes, the PodTrak P4 can convert the MP3 files to WAV. However, it takes relatively long and it's faster to do it on a computer. You can just use Garageband or something like it to get the job done. The PodTrak P4 conversion takes pretty long and is not necessarily reliable.
As far as I know the ATEM Mini Pro has a normal mini Jack (3.5mm Jack) input and to connect the P4 to the Mini Pro, you'd need a normal TRS to TRS (mini Jack to mini Jack / AUX) Cable. You then use one of the headphone ports on the P4 to connect to the ATEM.
Hi Chris! Thank you for your super detailed and really useful videos! I have a set of BOYA BY-WM8 Pro-K2 and I got suprised when I noticed that I can record the two transmitter only together (via one receiver and one XLR input). Is this my fault or there is another way to record the two transmitters separately? In other way, it is a P4's specifity or other Zoom recorders works the same way? Or no matter what gear I use one XLR input results one channel so if I would like to record a conversation between two person I need two transmitter + two receiver which connect two XLR cable to P4?
Hello. I am interested in PodTrak P4. I want to ask you some things before purchasing. 1) My main setup is just one microphone and use the audio from my computer, so i will use the audio interface feature. I read that is not quaranteed that it will work with AMD processors. Will it work with mine processor? See attachment please. 2) As i am not a professional podcaster, i need the recorded file to be saved as an ''One File Recording''. I read that chanels are recorded separately and need editing after in order to create the final mix. Can't they also be recorded as ''One File'', without needing editing afterwards? Thank you. Stavros Tzathas. Athens, Greece.
You can connect one of the headphone jacks to your camera if you want to. But I would not use that audio which you record in the camera. The headphone outputs are not that clean. It is better to sync the audio in post.
@@ChrisSpiegl Hey Chris, thanks for the answer! If I connect the Rode to the computer and then P4 as an interface, would it work then? Or is it a pointless exercise? Many thanks!
@@Tomaszeks there are ways to route the audio from your computer to the P4 (like Loopback crsp.li/Loopback [pretty expensive] or Blackhole github.com/ExistentialAudio/BlackHole [free]) But that said: I would try to get a proper XLR mic if at all possible.
@@ChrisSpiegl Many thanks for your replies, Chris. It's greatly appreciated. I do have XLR mics but I need a USB mic now, so I would love to be able to use it with P4 when it comes to it. Again, many thanks for your comments!
@@Tomaszeks there are a few mics out there that support USB and XLR. If you really need that. But you can always use the P4 as a audio interface and thus use the XLR mics on the computer through that?
There are no Audio Interface Settings on the PodTrak P4. You just plug it in and it will do the Audio Interface things. The only setting is when you go into the menu, to the settings, and then there is the USB Mix Minus which you can turn on and off. That's it.
You can definitely use the P4 as an audio interface. But as far as I remember, you will only get the mix down of all active mics + sound effects as one Stereo input on your computer.
Hello, and thank you for your video. Right now I use a cheap usb microphone to record a podcast. I record into Mixcraft software and listen from Mixcraft. I read a script and often times stop and rerecord a segment. So the podcast can be made up of several sections of audio in Mixcraft. If I upgrade to an XLR microphone and use the Podtrak p4 to capture the audio, can I still dynamically edit during the recording process by interfacing the P4 to my laptop to use the Mixcraft editing software at same time? Appreciate your feedback.
Hi, with the process you already have I would suggest that the P4 is not what you are looking for. Sounds more like you should invest into an audio interface instead of a Podcast Hardware Recorder. This way you can use a XLR mic, hook it up to your computer via USB and then record straight into Mixcraft. Still providing higher quality audio than using any cheap USB mic by itself. I can't recommend any since I do not use any dedicated USB audio interfaces, but I think RUclips search will yield good results about that.
@@ChrisSpiegl thank you. I liked the ability of the P4 to take calls to record. Are you saying that the P4 does NOT connect to the laptop to listen and edit on laptop? I would like to know the answer on that.
@@songbirdforJesus I have a video showing you how you can setup the P4 with your computer via USB-C. It's partially about including Skype and similar programs, but the section about "Audio Interface in Adobe Audition" should help you get the P4 setup with Mixcraft.
The P4 does not support multi track USB-Mode and thus can not be used with Logic or Audition or any other DAW for that matter in that way. It can however, be recorded in Stereo Mode - just not in Multi-Track Mode.
@@ChrisSpiegl I mean when you’re done with the recording session, whatever you recorded, you can transfer the audio files to your phone or tablet so that you can edit
I don't think that is possible directly via the device. Though I have not tested it (and especially have not tested it with Android or any of the new USB-C iPhones). It could work with an iPad with USB-C… but the safest bet is a SD Card Reader.
Can you please advise if this equipment needs a Mixer and Audio interface and or a preamp and processor? If not, what if I connect the PodTrak to a Mixer and audio interface and a preamp and processor what difference does it makes if any?
The PodTrak P4 is supposed to be all of those things in one for the production of Podcasts. You can directly plug in your microphones and also connect the PodTrak to a computer easily.
Great Review! I just got two Shure Sm7b's and I am on the hunt for a nice audio recorder /interface that can work with sm7b's without the need for a cloudlifter. Do you think Podtrak P4 is good enough to be used without cloudlifters for youtube podcast and voice overs for youtube videos or should I invest more and get something like the Zoom f6? I am not an audio pro but I do want to get the best quality out of the Sm7bs as I have already spent a lot on them and my camera and I also want my podcasts to sound extremely professional, so I do not want the audio interface to be the weak point. I am totally against using cloudlifters as I feel they are too expensive and I do not want to keep buying them for every mic that I add to my setup. I am planning on hosting more than 2-3 people on my podcast soon so I want it to be future proof. Any inputs will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Personally, I would choose the Zoom F6 for your goal of wanting the best quality possible. However, I also have not tested the P4 with the SM7B. The one thing I can also add is that maybe adding an alternative to the Cloudlifter which would be the: TritonAudio FetHead But yea, long story short: I would go for the F6. It provides the highest possible quality, no need to monitor the audio if you don't want to. The only downside: if you want headphones for each person, you will have to add some kind of headphone splitter and ideally one that is powered so the signal is nice and loud for each individual.
I'm watching this while I wait for mine to be delivered. Thanks for the detail. Awesome

Great video. I’d love to know if the audio recorded and played is raw straight from the device or did you edit it? Thanks.
Well done. Thank you.
liked all of your videos
Thank you 🌸.
Nice job. Enjoyed the vid
Glad to hear it and thanks for taking the time to comment 🌸.
You load the files onto the SD card, and then you load them on the P4 Sound Pads. You can still record on the SD card as well.
Hi Chris,
Good setup guide.
Thanks for this upload.
You're welcome
Excellent video! 🔥
Thank you, I appreciate that 🌸.
Thank you! Very helpful.
You're welcome! I appreciate your comment.
This video helped a lot. Thank you.
Thank you, I appreciate that a lot.
Great video, prepping to use the PodTrak tomorrow for a colleague and this is so comprehensive but also to the point. Well done.
Thank you, I appreciate that 🌸.
I'm so excited I can't even... like can't even speak English even though I have been speaking snglish for like 30 years
That’s awesome, what are you planning to do with the P4?
@@ChrisSpiegl I am launching a podcast this month.
@@sanman2754 that’s awesome. 👍
Great video, thank you very much!
You are welcome!
would you recommend this for video work where I would record the audio on the SD card and import into video editor?
Sure that works.
Hi
Thanks for a good review video.
@@ChrisSpiegl Thanks. Let me try this and get back to you. Appreciate you taking time to respond to my query! Cheers
Thanks a lot for the informative video. I have one question - is there an option to connect earphones that can monitor all the channels at the same time? like a central point of level control by the recorder? Thanks.
You only have the 4 outputs at the bottom. But all the headphone outputs get all the inputs at all times.
can it be conected to a mirrorless camera like sony zv e10?
Great video! If i am using the usb c to live stream, can i also use track 4?
How am I able to connect my podtrack p4 to my imac and have my sony a7iv record the video? Do i have to sync the audio and video in post processing?
Nice video. Does this unit record all four tracks separately as well as a mix?
That is correct
Thank you for the video! Quick question: We went to record today, adding a guest (so with 3 mics). When I went to play it back, the mics all recorded individually. For example, you can hear mic 1 just fine and the other 2 people are talking but it's in the background of mic one. Is there a way to avoid this? It's probably something simple but I haven't been able to figure it out! Thanks in advance!
Looks like there is no on-board compressor setting you can tweak on the Podtrack P4? I searched everywhere
You are correct, the P4 only features a Limiter and a Low Cut Filter. It's limited in that way.
Need help. How do I connect the Mevo cameras to a zoom P4 mixer for microphone audio? Thanks
Does the p4 NEED an SD card? Or if it is connected with your computer its recording into your software WITHOUT needing the SD card?
Can XLR inputs be used to record line level audio, like the left/right output of a mixer?
Very informative. Thank you
Thank you, I appreciate that 🌸.
@@ChrisSpiegl I’m already on to the next on the sound buttons. Good stuff
@@DKUNFROST that’s awesome. Glad you’re enjoying the videos. 😊
Welll done sir!
I connected the Zoom P4 to the computer but no sound from the headphones? I can hear my own voice but no sound from videos I open from youtube? I'm sure I have the sound settings right, I can't hear my friend in Discord, but I can listen to my own voice.
I’m literally on the road to grab a P4 atm but from my experience with interfaces in general, it sounds as though the P4 is not selected as your output
what is the best for use for zoom app?
Anybody have a good video recommendation that would walk me through a workflow with the PodTrack P4 to the Blackmagic ATEM Mini Pro ISO and 3 cameras?
thank you for the video . i have a question to ask how can I record music by podtrak on sd card from my Korg keyboard imean any instrument which I play for the record on sd cad in podtak. many thanks in advance
is there a way to change it from WAV to MP3 when uploading files?
Do you mean with the Sound Pads?
Yes, the PodTrak P4 can convert the MP3 files to WAV. However, it takes relatively long and it's faster to do it on a computer. You can just use Garageband or something like it to get the job done.
The PodTrak P4 conversion takes pretty long and is not necessarily reliable.
How you need to connect Zoom PodTrak P4 to Atem Mini Pro as the audio source. What adapters needed.
HI, So when recording the actual video, can I use the phone camera? and how can I match the sound from the recording to the video?
You'd match video + audio by doing a clap sync in the beginning and then sync that in post processing.
We can get the microphone to sound on our ohone when recording. Thoughts?
This may be based on the cable. But if that's not it, please try contacting the customer support of Zoom.
It's annoying that it keeps asking me to set the date and tine every time I turn it on! Any idea how to fix this? Thank you so much
Thank you ❤️

When you only want to record one mic & comuter, then I would choose a different device like the Focusrite Scarlett.
Is it connected to your camera or do you have to sync the audio post
You can connect one of the headphone jacks to your camera if you want to. But I would not use that audio which you record in the camera. The headphone outputs are not that clean. It is better to sync the audio in post.
Can you record directly on to the camera?
Very useful video! Is it possible to connect a USB mic, like the Rode NT-USB, to this recorder? Thanks!
Unfortunately not. The P4 is made for XLR mics and I don't know of any adapter that would turn a USB mic into a XLR mic.
@@ChrisSpiegl Hey Chris, thanks for the answer! If I connect the Rode to the computer and then P4 as an interface, would it work then? Or is it a pointless exercise? Many thanks!
@@Tomaszeks there are ways to route the audio from your computer to the P4 (like Loopback crsp.li/Loopback [pretty expensive] or Blackhole github.com/ExistentialAudio/BlackHole [free])
But that said: I would try to get a proper XLR mic if at all possible.
How do you get to the audio interface screen on settings?
There are no Audio Interface Settings on the PodTrak P4. You just plug it in and it will do the Audio Interface things.
The only setting is when you go into the menu, to the settings, and then there is the USB Mix Minus which you can turn on and off. That's it.
hey is it possible to use this for live stream if so would you be able to use all 4 mics?
You can definitely use the P4 as an audio interface. But as far as I remember, you will only get the mix down of all active mics + sound effects as one Stereo input on your computer.
Thanks man!
Happy to help!
Thanks!
Welcome! I appreciate the super 🌸.
Hi can this be recorded via logic pro with assigned track means multiple track?... Tq
The P4 does not support multi track USB-Mode and thus can not be used with Logic or Audition or any other DAW for that matter in that way. It can however, be recorded in Stereo Mode - just not in Multi-Track Mode.
I heard you can hook it to your phone or tablet to import sound?
Never tested that to "import sounds". As far as I am aware you can only transfer sounds onto the P4 via the SD Card.
Can you use it during a live stream? If so how?
You can plug it into your computer and the P4 shows up as a microphone input and can be used in any program (Zoom, OBS, etc).
Anyone has tips or link to a vid on how to sync the 44.1 kHz audio from the P4 for video since standard for video is 44 kHz
Do you need phantom power?
Thanks!
What camera are you using?
I am using the Canon EOS R for most of my work these days: crsp.li/eosr
@@ChrisSpiegl Thanks!
Super helpful for non tech savvy users lol
Thanks, I appreciate that 🌸.
You can directly plug in your microphones and also connect the PodTrak to a computer easily.
my podtrak4 doesnt work with my pixel 7 and has a hissing noise when recording
The one thing I can also add is that maybe adding an alternative to the Cloudlifter which would be the: TritonAudio FetHead
But yea, long story short: I would go for the F6. It provides the highest possible quality, no need to monitor the audio if you don't want to. The only downside: if you want headphones for each person, you will have to add some kind of headphone splitter and ideally one that is powered so the signal is nice and loud for each individual.
