I'd be curious to see you review a turbo vs. supercharged BRZ back to back. To me, the Jackson Racing supercharger kit seems to be the best forced induction option for these cars -- carb certified and retains OEM fuel economy and drivability. Also keeps the character of the engine with a linear powerband.

I’ve had two frs with a Jackson racing supercharger and another with a jdl turbo kit. I’d take the Jackson racing kit 10/10 over a turbo due to the linear power band. The turbo kit made more power and turbo noises were fun but a supercharger suited the car better in my experience.

I got a 2022 BRZ last fall. I think the power is adequate for NA for sure. My only gripe with it is that... it's not a Honda. I know that's wild, but coming from Honda's NA 4s to the FA24 it just feels... it's less smooth and it doesn't feel as exciting up to redline as some of Honda's offerings.
Otherwise it's fantastic and I can't wait to see what potential it has once we can tune it.

I have 142k miles and boosted for 42k miles. Zero issues. It's tracked. Driven frequently. I haven't even had to do the timing cover seal. If you just treat and maintain your cars properly, it'll run strong. Common denominator with alot of the boosted cars are owners - poor maintainence, complete lack of supporting mods, and constantly driving like they're on a race track daily. All the people I know that are FI and do the necessary items, including the Jackson's have strong longevity. Albeit, there are some manufacturing issues that can warrant complaints but the percentage isn't significant enough. Most issues with all blown motors has been owner care error.

I've owned a lot of different cars, but my most recent besides my 91 turbo miata thats just for fun, is my 2016 Focus ST thats FBO with E30. It tears up cars on the track and back roads quite well compared to well modded cars far more expensive...as long as you're not trying to do high speed races in a straight line... but I have been really wanting to experience a more modern RWD thats able to be built on a budget like a BRZ.
That color of the 2nd gen here is great.. i love the sound and simplicity of the 1st.. both cars seem to be a good fit for the right buyer so theres no clear winner depending on your goals!

My FRS was bought with 20k miles at 18k. As much as I would like the second gen I think I would get more bang for my buck if I mod my current car, either spend 30k-35k on 2nd gen or spend 10k to get mine past the stock 2nd gen. Excellent, thoughtful comparison. Whoever modified that '19 BRZ really knew what they were doing with your effusive praise of the driveability which can be a downfall of a turbo versus NA car. Apparently you liked the power delivery of that turbo which can be a handful is improperly tuned in the twisties.
Sounds liike you still have the fake sound module on your '22 which I would have ditched a long time ago...a pretty awful adjunct to analog intake and exhaust. I vastly prefer the '22 car with module pulled or disabled.
Again, I am really impressed with the '19 car but I learned a long time ago, as well done as those modifications are which is unquestionable, its always better to take that money and just upgrade to a higher performance car like a lower end Porsche. The owner of that '19 has a boatload of money and sweat equity in it with a pretty high cost. I am sure he is proud of his work however as he should be. Don't think I have seen a finer modded example and a lot of hack jobs out there.
Love the '22 car and again, IMO, best to leave it close to stock and enjoy it and if you want a faster car buy a Supra or a Porsche and not the new Z because its a Nissan. ;-)

The GTX2867R Gen2 is a smaller turbo yes but has headroom for more boost and power with supporting mods. However, its got better response and for daily driving I wouldn't push this past 300 whp especially on stock internals. Also the 270 - 300 ish whp is a great sweet spot for the car. If I had gone with an E85 kit, it would be around 350 whp but the availability of E85 is what is difficult about that setup along with other issues with E85 and daily driving
