Last story: No, this was a clear case of breaking and entering, trespassing and extortion. NOT a civil matter. The squatters had NO documentation to show they had a legal right to be at the property. The police should have arrested them.
Last story - Have a friend where a squatter got into his house. The squatter got in and had a forged lease he did on a printer. So he just let it go and said "Fine, I want to report a stolen firearm. I want it back and I can show you where he has it." The squatter went white because, though a lucky guess, the guy shouldn't have had one...especially not a stolen one.
The last story, given that squatters have to commit the crime of breaking und entering in order to occupy the property. How is squatters a civil matter? It also sounds like the squatters were attempting identify theft.
A lot of places strengthened tenant laws during the pandemic to prevent people from being thrown out of their homes during lockdowns. Unfortunately there has been a rash of people squatting in properties pretending to be tenants in order to seize properties and essentially hold the home owners hostage as it takes a lengthy legal process to evict them and if you try to forcibly remove them YOU can be arrested, even if they are not real tenants (the most famous case of this is from NYC when a group of migrants broke into a woman's inherited property and moved their stuff in without her knowledge. When she changed the locks and threw their property outside the police arrested her).
Squatter Story: OP should have demanded to speak to the Officer's Sergent/Superior Officer and filed a Formal Complaint against them for refusing to file OP's Crime Complaint... Then call a Lawyer to Sue the Police for Dereliction and to force them to remove the Illegal Trespassers because the Property is not Legally Habitable due to lack of Electricity and Water...
They tried to speak to a supervisor and were threatened with arrest if they didn't leave. I'd definitely be filing formal charges against that officer.
i loved working at night at the gas station by myself (all 5 feet 130 pounds of white girl with blue eyes and blonde hair, i look like a softie)...noone could tell me what to do. i had a woman come in screaming about another customers dog scaring her... the dogs meres presence frightened her, it didnt bark, it didnt lunge, it didnt even notice this woman. i know as i was standing next to the window watching when it happened. it was a pitbull sitting in the backseat and she just didnt like pitbulls so she was yelling at him about what was he gonna do if the dog attacked her. i said, the dog didnt even look your direction, stop making up scenerios in your head to pick a fight. get out of the store in fact. im not waiting on you. she said to get someone else to wait on her, i said, well, im alone so you can sit here till morning waiting for someone else, then proceeded to ignore her existence. she called the cops and they made her leave, unhelped. i had her legally trespassed just to be an asshole :)
First story: I would have just said, “Don’t be rude”. If she complained I would say that I was just reminding myself not to respond. Last story: Just shows the sad state of affairs when squatters/criminals have more rights than law abiding citizens.
Sadly now days everyone acts like they are being discriminated against even when they are not. Just have to complain to make others uncomfortable and then feel better. We all really need to grow up
As per the last story, I can relate. Me and my roommate (both of us who own the house) were forced to vacate after a fire on June 27, 2023, because of Neighbors negligence. On July 15, my roommates estranged sister decided she was going to move right on in and claim to be a tenant/residence. The first time, she was trespassed off the property by the police because she had no paperwork. The second time, on 23 July, she presented herself, her domestic partner and a child along with some paperwork, claiming that she had permission to be on the property. The police were called at 11:45 AM that morning and they refused to do anything about it claiming it was a civil matter. What my roommate didn’t know, and I ended up researching later, was that there was a statute in Arizona law that had we known, would have resulted in her being criminally trespassed. As it was, the documentation was forged, another call at nearly 3 PM the same day to get a supervisor out there also resulted in the same phrase from the police (Phoenix Police): “this is a civil matter, and if you continue bothering us us will arrest you). They refuse to listen to my roommate, even though he clearly showed evidence of homeownership by presenting a certified copy of the title and other documentation. the electricity was already off because of the fire. The previous month, the gas was also turned off because the gas company didn’t want any liability issues because of the condition of the property after the fire. The water was later turned off (about four days), and, his estranged sister (the squatters question) were eventually forced to leave the property due to the fact that the house was not in any kind of habitable condition. We later filed for a restraining order (which is ongoing to this day and is in its second year of operation). Hopefully, she gets the hint and doesn’t return. However, she is one of those that just simply won’t get the message.we’re afraid that come next August, she’s going to try again and we might have to take sterner measures. I hope not, but this individual refuses to get the hints. So what’s a person supposed to do?
Last story, go to the District Attorney's office with all evidence against trespassers and "good ole boy" cops!! Something smells and it is on the cops!!
The last one with the squatters, they need to file an official complaint against the officer who threatened to arrest the woman. And then send the squatters to this officer's house
*Last Story:* Getting rid of squatters is a civil matter. Extortion is _not_ a civil matter and neither is threatening people with trespassing who are just trying to report a legitimate crime. I hope that cop is out of a job because people like him are what give the "Defund the Police" crowd ammo.
I doubt it. Since they passed the law allowing renters who don't pay to stay anyway, a law intended to help people who lost their jobs from businesses that closed during the pandemic, thousands of squatters have used it to invade peoples' homes and refuse to leave, and the owners can't do anything. The police will not help. The "legal issues" the last OP mentions at the end are probably law suits the criminals in his trailer have filed claiming the trailer was left uninhabitable. He will probably lose.
@@Tenakee64it's not the "liberals" that created the laws Many have been on the books for 40+ years and "liberals" have been trying to get them removed but are stopped by "conservatives" that don't want to do anything but complain about the problem
No longer just a civil matter in some states. Thankfully, here in Florida we have lawmakers who care more about Law abiding citizens than scammers. The new law just took effect July 2024 and this story took place long before that. In my dept, we hated squatters. And while it was true that legally, prior to the new law, we couldn't do anything without a court order... we could make things very uncomfortable for the squatters. This was in the county, not city, so we were more supportive of our citizens.
I don't see how squatters are a problem. For a small donation to the local motorcycling enthusiast organisation, I'm sure that they would be happy to assist in showing the squatters a better life path.
On the last story about the squatters. Instead of going to the police station and reporting squatters, Go to the property and call 911 and report then as Breaking and Entry, Burglars. The police will have to remove them then unless they can proof of them being tenants. If they don't have a signed lease proving they are renters, they will be taken to jail and charged with both burglary and breaking and entry.
Don't discriminate story: My response? Next time, don't cut the line. BTW, you shouldn't have asked her if she was next. You should have told her she WASN'T next and you would take her in her proper turn. End of discussion. Don't engage further until it's her turn. 40 acres story: Your lucky it ended that easily. Squatters story: All I can really say is that we need better laws to address the rights of property owners vs illegal squatters. The police can remove the homeless from encampments and the squatters don't have any kind of lease or property deed, so what's the problem?
Good morning, friends. Hope you all having a great day! Your stories today are really good as usual, thank you for sharing them! I will catch you again in the morning!
A while back I was a customer in a store where one of these entitled Karens was rudely harassing an employee, what about, I don't know! She got to the point of telling the employee she would never shop there again!! Couldn't resist! I piped up loud enough for everyone near by to hear "Please, please keep that promise! I detest shopping where there are loudmouth, rude jack wagons who ruin the experience for everyone else"! The look on her face was priceless! I thought she might try to tie into me, but apparently the cold, hard stare I was giving her was enough! She stormed out to a chorus of laughter and applause!
First story - she was trying to get OP angry while she recorded secretly so that she could sue for as much money as an ambulance chaser thought they could get. Last story - what did he expect? They were trying to get police to do actual work in an area like that, where getting up out of their chairs is usually enough to exhaust most of those overweight jerks.
In regards to the first story: I was literally threatened over a stupid sandwich all because I had to close the custom sandwich bar due to the fact we are so short staffed at work, thankfully the two store level managers and the assistant kitchen manager said I wasn't in trouble and the guy hightailed it away before they could talk to him and I was given permission to refuse him service the next time I see him.
