Fun story: I was beating this game 100% recently with my brother. Near the end we joked "I bet the true ending is going o be creepypasta thing, there will be a bunch of empty levels with a hiperrealistic Croc". Of course the last three levels are empty levels made us think that our creepypasta was going to become true...
Maybe instead of a puzzle, we can call it a tactical.... er, environmental.... Good lord no wonder there's no name for this kind of thing this is hard, dude. That being said, if you can come up with a catchy name for it, James, you could probably be able to make it into a widespread term, seeing as you have a sizable audience as is.
Hey Nitro Rad, I actually 100% completed this game, and sorry to say but as soon as you get the all the eggs it just goes to the credits, no special or alternate ending exists. This is where I mentioned on the previous video that this game might have been unfinished/rushed. Actually the Gameboy color 100% ending for croc 2 was just this ending without the Baron Dante ending. (I own the Ps1 games plus thier gamboy color counterparts)
The Trophies from each world can be spent in any worlds trophy door, so you might have spent the 5 Cossack (ice) world trophies somewhere else. There is probably a level in a different world that you dont have a trophy for. Or your disc is rekt
Actually, Fox never owned the Croc games, just published them. Ownership rights were retained by Argonaut until they went out of business and they're now held by Argonaut's founder, Jez San.
You're really not missing much without the secret levels, they're copies of the main hubs but replacing NPCs with Dantinis and each door takes you to a mini level where you get a crystal. Get all crystals and the egg appears in the hub, get all 3 eggs and the game just... cuts to the same fast credits but this time they say "Congrats, it's 100%!". No cutscenes, you almost can't even read the message because of how fast the credits roll, it's kinda hilarious. I gotta say you're like the only one I've seen who gives this series a fairly positive review, I grew up with the first game and even though I know it's flawed it's refreshing to see someone get the good of it out there. Good job!! :D
I was really confused watching this as I've played loads of this game and had no recollection of coloured gummis, then remembered they were just the different coloured jelly in the PAL version! Much better IMO.
Also apparently they're still LifeSavers (or Gummi Savers) in the PAL version. Possibly the Japanese version too. And Swap Meet Pete constantly screams "ALOLA KOALA! ALOLA KOALA!" at you.
@@ilikecurry23452 years late but nope, it's Jelly Jumps in the PAL version. Weirdly though on PC swap meet pete sells gummi savers in the store but the store models are the jelly jumps. Very bizarre
Just discovered your channel and I love it ! You talk about so many games that deserve more attention ! And so many memories ! Gotta watch your Fatal Frame videos next !
Idk why but watching your videos always puts a smile on my face. You are just so happy in all your videos and even when playing a bad game you still seem so happy. Definitely one of my favorite youtubers and deserving of every penny I'm going to give you on patreon.
I was shocked seeing the "life savers" product placement, in the PAL version they were just different colored jellys. Bouncing of the jellys looks more natural too, so I guess this was pretty much a last second change.
Oh man seeing those lifesavers in the shop brings me back. I don't know why but the one on the left I remember so vividly from way back when I played this game when it launched.
That Pikmin 2 product placement was top notch. Really made you want to go out and buy some collectibles or food. Croc's use of it makes me wonder how it would go in the modern age if more games did that. Like Mario Kart 8 using a Mercedes-Benz?
The definition of Puzzle noun 1. a game, toy, or *problem* designed to test ingenuity or knowledge. I’d say a boss fight that requires more thinking than simply punching it to death can absolutely be classified as a puzzle.
Instead of sprites with eyes and a crown, now the Gobbos look like cereal. To be specific, Golden Nuggets/Honey Smacks that've been left out in the sun for too long.
Croc 2! Me and my brother loved this game! Had the PC version. Let's see, I remember liking the music in the second and forth world. We liked the noise the gobbos made. There's a forth world level where you put baby gobbos into cribs and I remember finding the level unsettling. Also, there's this one (jungle?) level where the music sounds like an instrumental of one-hit wonder "Coco Jumbo" by Mr. President. I always thought that was cool.
I was waiting for this follow up of the Croc 1 video, very nice once more! What is curious is that for some reason they made the PS1 version more "difficult" than on PC because PC players start with 6 Hit Points instead of 3 while all the level mapping and object placement is pretty much the same thing. There is one missing music on PC version and some song swaps too. Other interesting element is the Gummy Savers use in North American copies, the European versions still used Jellies like in the original game. Despite of the many improvements I have a slight preference on the first game as I found it generally more challenging. Croc 2 was still pretty enjoyable in any way. As for the Game Boy Color games, I would personally advice to stay away from the GBC port of Croc 2 which is disastrous, the first one was rather ok.
Oh, this game brings back memories. I never played the first one and I'm wanting to think I got this as a bonus with my PlayStation one Christmas. I never completed it because the second racing course kicked my butt, but I loved the music and the color palette was so upbeat. I'd never heard of anyone else playing this before. Thanks for bringing back the good memories, Nitro Rad!
Ok so you've covered most of the 3D platformers I remember from my childhood. Kao the Kangaroo, Rayman and Croc were pretty big here in Poland in early 2000s. I remember like two more games getting any sort of recognition. Sammy Suricate could make for a good video I would imagine. It's basically a puzzle platformer and I mean it - the levels are basically giant puzzles. The other one is called "Modi i Nanna" ... but I don't think I could recommend it because it's never been released outside of Poland and even here it's not really renowned. Also because there's apparently a bug making the game absolutely unbeatable.
The weird thing is, I got so used to the tank controls in Croc 1, that I used the alternate control method in the PC version of Croc 2 which sets him back to tank controls, it threw me off too much to play it normally.
Pridetoons aka Afro Lion I agree. Caddicarus just gave up at the Octopus Boss. He didn't really go in-depth with the game and just did his review so he could speak fast and shove in as many gags as possible.
Joshua Rosario yeah I agree with both of you. Caddicarus favor more in comedy then reviewing games. Nitro rad just go more in depth of games and he is being more serious. I just like Nitro rad better. Hes gags can get annoying.
My Life With Lucario he is just alright. His gags can be funny sometimes. But I wished he reviewed other games then anything that is licensed (Disney or rugrats) and tried some hidden gems like, medal of honor, Einhänder, Alundra. Or some obscure platformers. The ps1 do have a lot of them. But it's just my opinion.
My Life With Lucario I mean, your opinion is your opinion, but just because you played a game when you were younger doesn’t mean that it’s still as good as it once was.
+My Life With Lucario I definitely agree with your statement dude, I am a fan of Caddy myself as well but some of the games he reviews he could've covered a bit better like you mentioned his SpongeBob review & Croc 2 as well.
Thank you so much... I had distant memories of playing a challenging but fun game on a computer (probably an emulator) with my much older cousins when I was five. I remembered a shop with lifesavers, goofy furball characters, and an awesome squid boss. I recently found your channel, and I'm trying to binge some of your 3D platformers. I saw this one and decided to check it out. Little did I know that I was going to find the nostalgic wonder that I had been searching for for years. Seriously, thank you Nitro Rad. I'll have to emulate this...
After watching a bunch of your videos in a row it got me nostalgic for some of my ps1 games. Specifically Breakout for some reason. I think you would really enjoy it because it mixes up the old gameplay with stages, different gameplay like running from a wolf, and boss battles.
I gotta say @nitrorad, your videos are great. Glad you found your footing on RUclips. You got it man! Because of you I played PAC Man world 2 and I love it.
Please keep up the great videos man your video structure and overall quality is something unique and special. A suggestion for a future video I enjoyed would be pikimin. Thanks though for being such a great channel.
Rescuing the eggs is exactly what the secret world is, and it's very underwhelming. You just go through each hub world again -- except for the last one -- and find one colored gem in each stage to unlock a cage in the hub world that's holding the egg. I assume the last world wasn't included because it only has three stages, and there are five colored gems. There's not even a bonus ending, it just rolls the credits again once you collect the final egg.
i think you are the only person saying the new gobbo designs are looking more fluffy... everyone else would say they look like wet sticky fur instead of fluffy balls of joy...
I played so much of the first one as a kid, it was in my top three, I still own it today & regularly play it whenever I break out the PS2. Never played number 2 though, until it arrived in the mail this morning so it’s next to go through when the PS gets setup next
I kept having to rewind the part where you said, "the right stick is functionless. It is functional though..." I couldn't figure out which one of us was going insane. Its you by the way.
My copy of Croc 2 was for the Gameboy Color. I actually won it as a home-player for Video & Arcade Top 10. Funny enough, I actually sent in my letter for the art wall, so when I received a package with a game in it I was pretty happy! I don't think there was a taped episode that aired with me as the home player though. My only hope is if I can ever find the series uploaded online, but chances of that are slim. :(
Hey,I really like your RPG Maker game series and this video was well done too! I had no idea what Croc was before your reviews and it's always interesting to learn about obscure platformers. For your next RPG Maker game review,I'd recommend 'Dreaming Mary,. As a Yume Nikki fan, this should be right up your alley! The creator,Accha is working on a sequel called 'Blue Dreams' so now would be the time to catch up. They also have a tumblr called Dreaming Games if you want more info about that.
About the statues. Did you check you got them all in the first hub world? Those statues are transferable between hubs, you can use statues gained from one hub world to open the door in another.
In the UK version, the Life Savers are just jellies. I was able to get to the Secret World. It's just the first 3 hub villages again but with Dantinis. There are 5 levels in each of the villages and each level contains one of the coloured gems which are needed to open the cage to one of the 3 eggs. The true ending sucks. It's just the credits again with a message congratulating you on 100% and also says "Is this the end for Croc? You'll have to wait and see!!"
Honestly, between the lack of a proper ending to the Secret World (resulting in the villain remaining at large even after 100% completion), the lack of an Inca Gobbo stage in the Secret World, and the fact that the Inca Gobbos only had two levels, this makes me wonder whether this was one of those situations where they had to rush it out before completing everything.
Cros 2 is..... not a game I actually played, despite loving the first Croc. Only got to try it out once for a short time on a friend's PS1, so seeing it here explored in-depth is my introduction to most of the game. Too bad about the weird difficulty, would've broken gotten frustrated with it as a child. I wonder, if the Gobbos on the island are all wearing clothes but the original ones aren't, does that make them nudists?
You really aren't missing much with the hidden world. The Hidden World is just going through the normal levels again but on a sort of "Hard Mode" thing and the hub worlds have enemies in it. I did some research and apparently the game was rushed out and a lot of stuff kinda shows it, the last world only has 2 levels, the hidden world just has a text "to be continued" thing, and there are signs of more worlds that didn't make it in going by the Gobbos' costumes on the back of the manual.
Man I love platformer game reviews you do man these are absolutely brilliant. Just wondering if you would ever review Jak and Daxter would love to hear you’re opinions.
And honestly those little Vehicle sections remind me of Mario Galaxy's side-attractions away from the regular platforming, yet they're less frustrating it seems.
Woah it was an actual American candy you put on those circles in the US version? I had the EU version and it was giant wobbly jellies, made more sense for my region I guess.
Yeah someone on twitter showed me that, it's really interesting. I wish I knew about it before making the review so I could have ordered a PAL copy to show that off! I suppose the deal was only made in North America so they had generic gummies in the PAL version.
5:33 Or just, I don't know. Don't jump too early. 8:15 But yea, that is bull, you don't even get half for restarting 8:32 What would a Nitrorad vid be without a mention of Mario 64, Banjo-Koozie or Sonic Adventure? 9:10 Shoulda been able to climb that. 11:29 It's very weird, yes. But it's nice for it's theme. 13:19 That's a great idea of a Boss to me. Doing more than one thing. 13:42 I'll level with you there. Vehicle sections typically aren't that good in platformers. especially when it's not used that much. good thing it was small. 15:42 Yea, Why does Pete look so happy? 16:09 Seems like all the outside media got a slice of games. Fox, Universal. 18:32 I dislike when moments like those happen. 19:54 What a nice reunion. What's with all the minor Platformers having cliffhangers that don't conclude? 20:13 Mate, It's not showing that much text. I agree with you. I rarely read those reviews anyway. Especially with Blinx.
Looks pretty great for a game this generation! They really did a good job with the art direction and even the polygons. I mean, look at the original Crash games: they're great, but the 3D graphics did not age as well as, say, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and that was a 16-bit game for a machine years older!
I played Croc 2 on PC as a child years before I ever played Croc 1 on the PS1. I remember being so much less sensitive about controls, graphics and even story back in the day. The only instance I can remember of being like "I can't deal with these controls" is from when I played Resident Evil 2, and even then to be fair it was probably just the urgency of not being eaten alive exacerbating it.

The best part about the "I'm Wallace Stinkleberg and I'm gonna rob this bank!" bit is just how plausible that situation is
"I am Giorno Giovanna... And I have a dream."

What about a Flummox
...Context sensitive battle?
I'd say that Flummox would imply a very hard puzzle. It's not half bad, but it kind of misses the point imho.
What about strategic environment usage
I would just call it environmental battles

I think Croc could come back. Its humor, characters, and presentation are what it has to offer.

I had a similar collectibles count bug in the Kao the kangaroo remake. Luckily it was on the first island so I just restarted the game.
Swap meet Pete used to terrify me as a kid, no idea why. Great review James!
Maybe he screams at you.
Haha love this comment
Hell yes, barely anyone talks about Akuji The Heartless. Lookin forward to it!
this was my first video game ever... I couldn't even get past the beach area when I was that young and stupid lmfao
I like that Nitro Rad reviews the games that aren't too popular. Jak And Daxter reviews are a dime a dozen.
Yeah, he definitely focuses on giving more obscure games a spotlight.
This review puts caddi's review to shame. well thought out. Great commentary. Definitely Subbed!
This video made my day a lot better, thanks.
About time someone else on this planet grasped the true wonder that is Vlasic pickles. I love the crunchy dills man.
5:33 Or just, I don't know. Don't jump too early.
8:15 But yea, that is bull, you don't even get half for restarting
8:32 What would a Nitrorad vid be without a mention of Mario 64, Banjo-Koozie or Sonic Adventure?
I love this game. It was one of my first video games i ever played. Great video.
I like that Croc: Legend of the Gobbos and Cars 3 made the exact same "life's a beach" pun.
That camera quality hit me like a truck
Looks pretty great for a game this generation! They really did a good job with the art direction and even the polygons. I mean, look at the original Crash games: they're great, but the 3D graphics did not age as well as, say, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and that was a 16-bit game for a machine years older!
to be fair, Sonic The Hedgehog 3 was a game that came near the end of the 16-bit era. Crash 1 came out only 1 year after the Playstation.
Iverson64 Also true, but Crash 3 and Spyro didn't really improve that much aesthetically from Crash 1 and those games came out years later.
Every time this video shows up in my feed, I think Croc is crying in the thumbnail
I've lost too many hours on Croc 2 and Jersey Devil as a kid, it's a cool throwback.
