I don't know about other markets, but in Poland we have 1.6 petrol with an optional 7G-DCT automatic. In the petrol range 180 is now a 1.6, 200 is a 1.8, and 250 is a 2.0, etc.
Good review ! I like the focus you make on problems. And you go straight to the point so we don't have to listen to a shitload of wind to get one or two useful informations (as in 90% of car reviews)
I like Marek's reviews. If you are considering a car, it's best to watch an optimistic, a pessimistic, then an in-between review. For optimistic, go to Bob Flavin, for pessimistic, go to Marek, and for in-between, go to Carbuyer. Pessimism isn't a bad thing, it's just best mixed with optimism. I like the "tell it like it is" attitude.
Nice car the GT-R Line. When the GTI 7Gen arrives I hope I get a chance to test it, and I'll definitely post a review. Meanwhile you can expect a review of the standard Golf 7 some time in December. Stay tuned.
Good review as it points out how to be carefull spending volume of money which in past was considered a nice solid car from Mercedes company.Quality does not stand only for nice body shape.
I drive an exact same car but with the manual gearbox. He has right about the seats and a few other areas such but still a very nice car for an A class

Because this is what Mercedes press department had available, when I did the test. Probably they predict engine is going to be more popular on the Polish market.
The car always starts in normal with Eco on. Probably most owners won't change a thing. But I'd rather have the driving mode selector somewhere on the gearshift or right next to it. In the A-Class it's a really tiny button somewhere down the console. It's just hard to see it.
I think Marek hits the nail on the head when he says the seats are not particularly comfortable. I found this to be the case in my E class. They looked comfortable but were far from it

The absoute best on Mercedes is, when you have a problem with your car, you get helped for FREE in the first 2 years. What ever problem you have. We have in our familie the new BMW 1, the Audi 3, the VW Golf 7, but ALL other Brands, want money for a normal thing to fit. Really for all things things they want money! Only the Mercedes dont want money from you!!! Not one cent. They update the software for free, they repair all for free which is broken or not correct in the guarantie. Thats not joke! Audi costs us in the 1st year 800 Euro for guarantie things, VW 440 Euro. BMW 600 Euro i think it was. But Mercedes not ONE CENT!!! My familie loves to change the cars inside the familie, but ALL love most to drive the Mercedes D 180 AMG Style most, bec. it feels most safe inside. We are no racers or tuning freek, only normal persons who have to drive to work and buy food, or drive into holydays, but Mercedes wins the competition and is the cheapest and needs less gas as the other ones. All cars are Diesels to safe money. All cars drive per day near 50- 80 km. But Mercedes our mercedes needs only 3.5 - 4.0 liter / per 100km - depends on your driving style. But all other cars need more. Next is the BMW with 5.2 Liter, up to 5.5 liter for the VW in a ECO driving style. So we love most the Mercedes, bec we know when there is a problem, we have not to pay for in the guaranty time. So our mercedes worth 36.400 Euro, was as expensive as the BMW and AUDI. Only VW was 2000 Euro cheaper, but Mercedes is the cheapest, and most worth when we sell hiim after 2 years for a new model. So the mercedes is in our opinion, without emotions or something, the best choice. Hope it helps somebody. Look in forums before you buy and you will see, thousands of threads about the servicequality of the brands and you will see, all brands without mercedes are not good and in longer time you are more happy with mercedes.

Excellent review. In Brazil, this car just already released in this April, 2013. Unfortunately it costs more than €38.00 and not have all this eletronics itens and acabements parts, it's so simple! In my country, This car mades for rich people, not workers, like me, a OT R/L and lecturer. Once more, great review! Sorry my poor English. I'm Brazilian and I speak Portuguese.

Great review! I really like the new design, but as pointed out it's a bit too expensive for what you get. Essentially you are paying to have that Mercedes sign on the vehicle. This A class is definitely not worth the money!
I'm always amazed at the bias that many reviewers have towards BMW. None of these guys talks about the 1 Series attrocious rear compartment OR notoriously poor cabin visibility. But here, when reviewing the A Class, this is a BIG highlight. A BMW review will only be about the "driving experience" and little else. But for other makes, reviewers spend hours nit-picking about irrelevant things...
I am short, with particularly short legs. I currently drive a Crossfire (pretty much a SLK in a different skin) and that seating setup looks like it would fit me perfectly. As I currently have the seat as close as possible to the pedals (and would be happy to go a couple of inches closer if it were possible) yet recline quite a bit so I'm not risking death by airbag. Visibility is zero in the Crossfire so lack of in the A250 wouldn't bother me at all. I only drive maximum 5000k a year in this car (I have a small 4WD for the city) so the lack of quality in the lower plastics doesn't bother me either. My Crossfire is 11 years old and hasn't hit 90000kms yet and still looks pristine (detailed every fortnight without fail). Pretty sure I will buy an A250 very soon. Besides, every man and their dog has a golf... not interested in following the sheeple. Still concerned moving to a front wheel drive... will have to test drive and see how it feels.

The door sounds like a Merc door 2:28, but i think the sound of the material at 6:55 is not as it should. MB has to change their a vew things, may be other material or a vew screws more.
Marek good review. I am considering buying a A180 petrol. What fuel comsuption did you get overall (normal driving)?...you posted a comment that you managed 9L/100km city driving...seems a bit high. Curiosly, seems that the new C class C180 petrol with 156Hp consumes less fuel... of course it depends always on the driving style. Thanks
9 l/100km is what I got. I realise my usual test routes are not exactly official fuel economy figures, but I always try to test cars in the same environment, on the same roads, etc. Some test cars are spot on, when it comes to the claimed and actual fuel economy figures (usually bigger, naturally aspirated engines), and others (especially those with smaller engines) are way off from what the manufacturer promises. On a long journey along back roads (not motorway), sticking to the speed limits, I guess this car could do around 5-6 l/100km. But that's on the verge of hypermilling.
Marek, i use to see all your vids. You are one of my favorites if not the one. I have a problem. After 12 years with my VW Polo (1.4, 101 ps), i want to buy Α-CLASS with the 1.5 dci engine and AMG LOOK. It is the only car (under 30.000 eyros) that i really like (most important factor for me to own the car for years). Because iam not a fan of quick sport driving (like an alfa romeo or a BMW fan would be) i do not care about A-CLASS stearing. What is more the economy with the dci engine worth the sacrifise of speed and the other engines. But comfort was always a great factor for me and everybody (all car expert reviewers including you) says that this car is by far the worse (comparing to BMW1, A3, GOLF, GUILIETTA, VOLVO). The bad thing about mercedes is that you can not order AMG LOOK, with 17 inch weels an comfort suspension (even if it is cheaper for them) and without AMG LOOK a-class is not very beautiful...Any suggestions..?
The point of the AMG Line is to give the car a sportier look and feel. There isn't much you can do about the suspension, but you can change the wheels at your own expense, when you buy the car.

Another problem is that there is no test drive with AMG LOOK, in any car dealer of mercedes and iam trying to drive one so to have a taste of my own. Also 1.6 engine with 122ps is another option for me (It is 2.600 euros less than the dci engine) as it would not do at least the bad diesel voice engine..and i could improve the comfort in the cabin (sound comfort) so as to compensate for the bad suspension comfort.. You found it ok in the video but did you found it economical..?Did you remember the average consumption of a normal driving..?I would like to thank you in advance for your opinion..
pavlos kotsidis I got around 9L/100km, mainly city driving. It all depends on how much and where you drive. Long journeys diesel could make sense. If you spend most time driving around the city, stick to small petrol.
have to disagree with you on the seats! ofcause if you wear 600 jackets at the same time your not gonna have a lot of grip in them but if its only you wearing a shirt or a jumper the seats are amazing!
really good review. i reckon it looks great, is safe, but lacks quality and practicality. mercedes is mercedes they shouldn't really have such a plasticy interior and it should have more boot space. also having all the models as all wheel drive would make the car more exciting in my opinion. it just misses the mark and i hope mercedes improves on this in the mid cycle update at the latest!!

in a dilemma to pick between 200 and 250..well I am not gonna run on a track but I do need some fair amount of speeds on our highways.. Just concern about the noise level compared to the 250 and whether the ride is really that harsh... Please advice

+Rita De Oliveira Actually the A180 diesel uses a Renault engine (don't know about the A160 diesel). BTW, in Switzerland the BlueEfficiency does not come with DCT, and it is the A200... Are you sure you tested a BlueEfficiency model ? Nice review though, keep it up

Hyundai looking side with a Merc front end. the smallest hatch in its class! I go for the Audi A3 any day of the week. Sure it will sell well due to the badge but certainly not the best in class - By a long waaaayyyyyy !!!
What a great looking car from the outside, and what a dump from the inside. Terrible seats, the gearbo lever is in a terrible position and the gearbox is absolutely terrible. And why do they insist sticking those number dials on car dashboards? Is this 1985 or something? The room in the backseat isn't great either if you compare to the new A3 sportback. Nice looking car, but just so many terrible choices inside.

really good review. i reckon it looks great, is safe, but lacks quality and practicality. mercedes is mercedes they shouldn't really have such a plasticy interior and it should have more boot space. also having all the models as all wheel drive would make the car more exciting in my opinion. it just misses the mark and i hope mercedes improves on this in the mid cycle update at the latest!!

in a dilemma to pick between 200 and 250..well I am not gonna run on a track but I do need some fair amount of speeds on our highways.. Just concern about the noise level compared to the 250 and whether the ride is really that harsh... Please advice

konkurencji za 150 tys zł , bo konkurencja oferuje więcej
Dlatego mercedes tak , ale tylko za 500 tys zł .. POniżej tej ceny jego
opłacalnosc spada, bo konkurencja depcze mu po piętach oferując więcej
poniewaz nie trzeba dopłacać do znaczka na masce..
dla tej marki jest miejsce tylko w segmencie premium

BTW, in Switzerland the BlueEfficiency does not come with DCT, and it is the A200... Are you sure you tested a BlueEfficiency model ?

Hyundai looking side with a Merc front end. the smallest hatch in its class! I go for the Audi A3 any day of the week. Sure it will sell well due to the badge but certainly not the best in class - By a long waaaayyyyyy !!!
I have driven it. I think is not a Mercedes. It's a Renault Megane with Mercedes's signs and a bit more quality interior. Audi A3 is better car.

What a great looking car from the outside, and what a dump from the inside. Terrible seats, the gearbo lever is in a terrible position and the gearbox is absolutely terrible. And why do they insist sticking those number dials on car dashboards? Is this 1985 or something? The room in the backseat isn't great either if you compare to the new A3 sportback. Nice looking car, but just so many terrible choices inside.
