I always feel like the plane doesn't go as high on the Houston to Dallas flight

Most of the time it doesn’t. On flights I’ve taken the cruise altitude can range from as low as 22,000 up to 33,000 feet depending on the time of day and the route filed. The cruising phase may last 5-10 minutes if that. Lol.
