I have just left Broome in WA after 25 years, and have not had much exposure to flathead fishing. The videos with a bit of an explanation on what lures and likely spots to try are great. Cheers
still running crossys, slim twitchers and double clutch's I bought 4 years ago!...they lost all their paint but still slay....been many years since I caught flathead on plakkies feel like my carbon foot print is a lot less since I went all hards.
Found pro lure 80mm pearl sardine the ducks nuts JIG HEAD chrome bearing 13 mm run 2 long shank number 6 mustard hooks 20 pound Dacron. So now tip of hooks to center of tow eyelet is 45mm .. hookset is now at 100%
@@mylurebox just found out I lost my sister only 54. Life is short lost another flattie queen . Her best a was 880mm . So when ya fish fish hard like Trudy did.
Just been watching all your videos and love them I’m doing a 2 week trip up north qld in 3 weeks to kinchent dam for 1 week then fishing my way back down to home at lake Macquarie I’m going to have to stop off and fish your local waters can you tell me where some good boat ramps are to put the 490 top ender in ps keep the videos coming
Yeah buddy 🦎🦎👌👌 the jacky boys are going to love those come summer i reckon. But hopefully I’ll be throwing a different plastic supplied by a bloke who lives near by 🤣🤣
Yeah I can’t wait to be chucking em at Barra ;) I like a shudder, not a roll for Jacks so I go another way… they’ll still pull their fair share though I’m sure eh
Hey Johnny, love the vids mate, always something new to learn. You mention using a 20lb bite leader or "tippet"; are you able to share what your preferred knot is for joining the 2 leaders and roughly what length of bite leader you run please? Not trying to steal your secrets mate, just learning as I go 😉
Cheers mate ;) no dramas at all. Happy to share for sure mate. I just use a double uni knot. I always test it and moisten it on tension and its generally ok for me as long as the Tippett isn’t going through the top guides constantly. There may be a better knot ;)
Heck yeah we do! I ran into a mate of yours the other day after a fish. We were at a pie shop telling fishing stories ;) The big lad you house sat for im pretty sure.
@mylurebox yeah that's Grant! I met him down in Iluka one day fishing on a bank.... he stopped and recognised me and been Mayes ever since! He's a bloody too bloke!! Always keen for a fish mate! Would love to come up you're way and chase some of those flathead!
Just want a thumbs up or thumbs down on the Shimano Stradic reels in the 4000 size deep spool for a bit of light Rockwall fishing for Tailor or Salmon. I thought they seemed a little more rubust than the Vanford and could handle a bit of rough treatment better than the Vanford?
Hey Jonny, Good channel mate, I have learnt heaps from you, Question, I purchased a reaction rod for flatties and yellas on inland dams, it matches well with my commander, anyway, I broke it, I don’t really want to spend another 700 on a replacement, What would you recommend in about the 7 foot range with not a super fast tip? Look forward to your thoughts, Jeff
Here’s Jeff spewing your reaction broke. They’re an awesome rod eh. I love my Zodias rods mate. Pretty reasonable and plenty of feel. For school flatties and Bass etc the 270M is noice :)

I just started using them for barra in Weipa mate. They fall with a wobble and tail wiggle that the barra in the snags can't resist. Nemesis goes off.
Just ordered some of those lures your using , great video great advice thanks mate , Johno .

Cracker video, what size jig head are you using along those muddy banks. I assume it’s quiet shallow so it would be light?
Mate u need to try them on bara they are my all time favourite for bara and what are your opinions on them for jack on rock walls and pontoons ?
