Thanks Frederick for this wonderful piece. Only see one other pianist who can do what you do and that was the late Victor Borge with his Happy Birthday . Congratulations for an excellent video, so crisp and clear. No blurry fuzzy images - FANTASTIC
+Carole Ace Did you know he has a BA ( HON) and studied in England at the prestige Oxford University and got his BA Honors, LRAM LTCL and so on . Quite a remarkable man. If only I could play like he does - I wouldn`t be sitting here :-)
Our 2018 Festival Performers! For our 10th festival, we're expecting a great group of headliners: Danny Coots, Richard Dowling, Frederick Hodges, Brian Holland, Daniel Souvigny, Adam Swanson and Bryan and Yuko Eguchi Wright! You can read about all these folks on our Performers page. Our 2018 festival begins Friday, September 21! We're still working on our concert schedule and prices, but they probably won't be far off what they were in 2017. See you then! Now the interesting parts... I planted the idea in David's world back about 12 years ago. The original idea was to get people in to ride the East Broad Top Railroad...(Narrow gauge steam..) --- The EBT is in Rock Hill Furnace, PA.. but there are very few pianos there... so the adjacent city of Orbisonia has several churches.. And the people come in to see and hear the music.. check www.rockhillragtime.org/ for more information...
@@isaacsworld9269 I heard him do the Robert E Lee at a fest out in California (which was somewhere on video)---- and was thrilled that he did the piece in PA. Hopefully the Ragtime festival will re-appear there in PA...
I used a pair of now elderly Sony EX-1 Cameras, and an even older HDV camera from Canon. Audio was a wireless lav on the performers that spoke... and a stereo ribbon mike with external recorder generating broadcast WAV files on storage away from the video... Sync up done manually in post. No compression of the audio, no eq, nothing added in past.
@@Billblom Thanks! I'm guessing the HDV is the one that has interlaced video and was standing facing the audience? The audio is extremely well balanced as well, you certainly know what you're doing when setting up the mics! Are there going to be anymore videos like this?
@@PiotrBarcz HDV was in back of the church, looking to the right side of the keyboard when the keys were visible. That camera had GROSSLY different color tracking, which required a lot of tweaking to get even close to what the two Sony's did....
@@Billblom Ok interesting. I actually like the way all three cameras are set to nice subdued colors, they're not bright and popping out but just nice and smooth.
Weak bass? I beg to differ, that thing has a pretty powerful sound compared to the other pianos that have been used for this festival! It might be a Pearl River but I personally was amazed at how nice this thing sounds, it's got a really solid attack too which is nice for this kind of music.
what a great pianist
Frederick molested me from ages 11-13. He was put on trial for molesting another student of his but was acquitted. He deserves to be strung up.
It is the coolest thing cruising RUclips looking for (and finding) all these different versions of popular ragtime pieces.
Das ist ein grosser Meister! Ein virtuoser Pianist. Ich habe es genossen! Vielen Dank für das Video!

What a great American artist. Never heard anything like that, and I am very happy to have found this on YT. Greetings from Germany.
Brilliant pianist

What a wonderful concert l was happy to hear Robert E Lee....But what a delight to hear so much more! Just brilliant!
Such a stunning performance and a brilliant technique.
WOW, Super Fantastic.... Thanks for Posting,,,,,,,, Jim
He starts his arrangement just like the QRS roll by J Lawrence Cook! Love it!
Hodges' "RE Lee" sounds like a piano roll!!! Dave Littlefield
Fabulous.
Maestro 👍👍👍👍👍
Magnificent. Also I love your twenties 'do! It really suits you.
That's amazing version! Thank you Frederick!!
Just Brilliant!!
Fantastic job
Wow ! Outstanding.
Great player, and videographer !! NH
Well played sir! Especially the strauss.
Absolutely loved it mate!!!
Amazing
Great performance.
Wow, awesome!
I remember Andrew Barret saying Pearl River pianos belong at the bottom of a river as boat anchors, this piano is one of the best I've heard though!
I love the interlaced video and high quality audio! It makes this looks so old and neat!
He'll be back at the 2012 festival this year...
From July 20 thru the 22..
He is really great!

This guy is a great pianist and musician. Just because your name isn’t known as Lang Lang doesn't mean your not a great pianist.
He is amazing!
Fantastic!!
Brilliant!
WoW! He should be called 'Fabulous Fingers Fred'! Bravo!
Amen.
They play this song on the steamboat riverboat SS-Natchez.
Nice

Brilliant! Chopin must have been caught in traffic.
Mighty fancy playin' thar stranger.

What can you say......!!!!
Where and when is this ragtime festival?? I love ragtime and I'm only a 2-3 hour drive from central PA!

He has 2 hands, I hear 4
Nope. Just 2 very fast hands. (I was the recordist, video dude..)

Very droll :)
Sounds like Peter Mintun.
They used to play duets back in the 1980s.

This is fake! Only a semi god could play like this! Fantastic! Thanks. I just threw my piano out the window.
Frederick has a way with the keys.. I have given up on the piano after hearing him over the years...
Hope there was nobody in the way!
Don't forget.. he did the arranging on that as well..

for a great Fredrick piano solo during 'After You've Gone" ...
1912? hmmmmmm
1912 but the arrangement is based on a piano roll from the 1930s and Fats Waller's music from the 1920s and 30s.
@@PiotrBarcz it’s a beautiful performance. Thanks for putting it in
Impressive ability and speed, but isn't ragtime tempo slower?
This is a stride piano version, also, ragtime gets played in almost any tempo under the sun
@@PiotrBarcz That's true. I was referring to how the composer intended it to be played.
@@jamesmcinnis208 That depends on the written tempo, originally this song was written as a one step
@@PiotrBarcz "Yankee Doodle" is a good example of the tempo for a one-step, according to a historical source.
@@jamesmcinnis208 interesting
That piano has a weak, weak bass.
