Because it means I've either found someone I can identify with and open up to, or someone who is annoyingly using my mental disorder to describe an insignificant personality quirk. I like to establish which person I'm dealing with before giving up any personal information of my own, because I actually find my obsessions and compulsions to be quite embarrassing.

    Ugh. So many people in these comments don't understand what OCD is, even after this video. Everyone's still like, "I think I have OCD a little bit!" or "I really like having a clean house, so that's pretty OCD!"
    Yeah, try having panic attacks every time someone you don't know touches you, or pulling out your hair and eyelashes because they don't feel right on your head, leading to you getting called "bald-face" throughout all of middle school and high school. Then tell me how "kind of OCD" you are.

    • @GoddoDoggo
      @GoddoDoggo 8 лет назад +25

      Kyrssy Belmonte
      Not sure if you read the whole comment, but in the latter half I described my actual, diagnosed obsessive compulsive disorder. It caused me to start pulling out my hair, eyelashes, and eyebrows at the age of twelve, I would bite my knuckles until they bled, and I had panic attacks quite often.
      Actual OCD is not fun. OCD is not just "wanting a clean house," it's a legitimate debilitating disorder that infringes upon regular life.

      +Lynne the Trendy Tetraodontiforme Your life is a tragedy I cannot feel empathy to this because it's impossible for me to imagine myself in that same situation. And the fact that people made fun of you for this is just horrible. I take pity on you and wish you well in the future

      Declan Gallagher/Currie
      My life certainly isn't a tragedy if I have access to food, shelter, the internet, and people who support me. The purpose of my comment was not to garner sympathy, it was to make people realize that OCD is an actual disorder that is not a fun thing to legitimately have.
      I don't mind when people joke around about it generally, but when it's clear that so many people in our society are so ignorant about mental and psychological health, I get a little aggravated.

    • @TreatFly1
      @TreatFly1 8 лет назад +3

      +Lynne the Trendy Tetraodontiforme Yeah I get fairly pissed when people insist they have it when it is over something so simple as wanting to clean the house also I dunno about you but I've had alot of people tell me "you just don't want to do anything" or "there's nothing wrong with you stop being a wimp" It really pisses me off sometimes.

    • @SlayerPrincess
      @SlayerPrincess 8 лет назад +2

      +Lynne the Trendy Tetraodontiforme I agree. It seems like its a slang term to everyone except for people that actually have it. When you are afraid to take another step or touch without repeating the same phrase over again for each little thing, When you take sleeping medicine just to be able to stop repeating the phrase and hope like hell maybe the compulsion will be less or gone in the morning, but it isn't. When everyone acts like you're doing it on purpose and they don't realize you can't not do it. Then it isn't a cute quirky term. Its a feared monster and even when it gets better you always fear that it will come back.

      Alyson Long I've had terrible unwanted thoughts as well. My compulsions have been primarily mental, though. But for some time I went through a phase where I'd keep on bathing because I felt "dirty" due to my thoughts, and thought I'd be able to rid myself of them that way.

    as someone who has lived with OCD for most of my life (i am 46 now), i would like to say THANK YOU for this, and for your music video!! OCD is, indeed, a bona fide and very serious condition, that can severely impact the lives of sufferers! i am fortunate that i have had an amazing support system, and part of my coping mechanisms can include being able to sometimes see the humorous side of the condition (because sometimes, from certain perspectives, the results are, indeed, funny!)...and i, for one, found your video to be so very cathartic ("Can I come back tomorrow?" omg, I LOVE IT!!)...
    i already have an immense amount of respect for you guys, and this has just kicked it up a notch...thank you!!

    I personally have been medically diagnosed with OCD. It bugs me when people are like 'oh I have OCD with this' or 'that sends my OCD crazy', like, you don't just have OCD about one thing, it consumes your life, you get angry, upset and frustrated at yourself because can't always satisfy the compulsion. I've been late for a lot things, or missed buses because I can't leave the house due to needing to fulfil a compulsion. I think that everyone has some OCD symptoms, it's just part of human nature, but to be actually diagnosed with the disorder is something entirely different, and is in no way something to be desired or thought of as 'cool'. I really appreciate this video, because maybe people will understand that it's not something to be taken lightly, and that it can actually really really, drastically affect people's lives.

      Mine affects my work with school because when I write notes... I get frustrated for no reason and rewrite the notes I can't focus unless I rewrite it and sometimes I will think of my notes while I'm doing something else and I have to go and rewrite those notes... it's caused me to not be able to study, sleep, it's caused me to be late for class, work, etc. :(

      I've been diagnosed too. Even the most simple things set me off, like how when I was little, I couldn't color on the sidewalk with chalk with my friends because I couldn't touch the chalk without actually having to wear snow gloves. My O.C.D. gives me anxiety attacks during school and even at home too. So, your not alone.

      I agree. I'm late A LOT. That's one of my OCDs. I have to wait until a certain time to do things. I can't help it and people think I'm just this tardy person who doesn't care. I've always been late but it's not because I'm not ready in time, it's legit because I can't get ready until the clock strikes a number that "feels right". Freaking chemical imbalances...one day I'll get that fixed but for now, it's okay, I'm used to it. Just need the rest of my health to be better as I have been chronically ill for three years. :/

  • @lorispicer4598
    @lorispicer4598 5 лет назад +239

    OCD is like a "false friend" that keeps promising and promising you things (ie: " if you keep doing this over and over you'll feel better") and the more you give it by following these OCD compulsions and doing and repeating those compulsions, the more this " false friend" OCD takes away. By following these OCD compulsions you get only a temporary sense of release from it but it only helps for the moment, and once your done going thru the action\motions, you can sometimes feel just as anxious as you did before you follow through with the compulsion itself, so it wouldn't have helped you at all. OCD and its compulsions are a vicious disease and takes you on a vicious and endless cycle. OCD takes over your life and you can't help it sometimes two example check and recheck repeatedly. There was a little boy I knew that have OCD that took over his life that he was compelled to go and lock doors 10 11 12 *make sure they were all shut and checking and rechecking everything and he was so sad and depressed because of it couldn't live a normal life and he couldn't help it. A person can tell when they really have severe case of OCD compared to all of us who may have OCD tendencies. There's a major difference.

    I've grown out of mine but when I was young I used to wash my hands until they were raw, bleeding. Sometimes I'd bath 3 or more times a day. I'd have to check the doors, stove, sinks, lights, before going to bed. Sometimes I would check them, return to bed and then have to check them again, I would jiggle the door handle 10 or 20 times. I'd flip the light switch repeatedly. I'd constantly be counting by 2s in my head and I did not like odd numbers, if I watched TV the volume had to be on an even number or I would have a meltdown. Now I think my only remaining thing is that I have to go through a routine before getting into bed or I can't go to sleep, brush teeth, wash face, wash feet, apply lotion and lip balm, drink water, etc. Oh, and also if, for example, someone punches my right arm I have to apply an even amount of pain and pressure to the left arm in the same spot. Also, if I touch a wet glass with condensation on it with one hand I have to touch it with the fingers on the other hand so that it feels even. Okay, maybe I haven't completely grown out of it..

    When you have OCD, it's not about wanting things to be perfect. It's checking the lock on the door, regardless of the number but still checking, locking, unlocking, and re locking, and trying to open it over and over again. It's having a thought come into your head that tells you to do something and not being able to resist. It's about compulsively dong things in public that makes people look at you but not being able to stop. It's hating yourself and asking why can't I stop doing this?

    The popularity going around OCD lately is scaring me. People don't know what it is like to not be able to fall asleep for hours because you haven't turned the switch off the certain amount of times or haven't fixed the curtains the 'right' way or if you have done your night routine in the 'right' order. You don't have a clue what that is, but you want it? No you don't! Stop this. It's a disorder, it's awful, not fun

      It's the same thing with autism. Everybody has at least a mild form of it today.
      A lot of times it's just hypochondriacs. THey read what something is, say "omg I got that" and bam, no diagnosis, they simply have it.

    I’ve had full-blown meltdowns in class because of my ocd. I am actually unable to physically make myself sit in a seat that has even a crumb on it. Folds must be exact. I haven’t stepped on a crack in a sidewalk in over 5 years. I count every step I take. Things must be in exact orders, names must be correct, no hair on my head may be in place. I’m terrified (to the point of meltdowns) of germs. I hate numbers with 3’s and 7’s. Chairs must always be pushed in, everything centered (yes their mugs DO bother me) I will spend hours making my pencils perfectly strait in order of color and size. I cannot use the bathroom if the shower curtain is closed (weird ik 😂) I have to do things a certain amount of times, never finishing on an odd number other than 5.

I was diagnosed earlier this year with OCD and have been suffering this for as long as I can remember. It affected me in school and affected me in functioning at home life as well. It's not fun at all. I am now currently taking medication and trying to seek a support group where I can surround myself with others who suffer with OCD as well. Thank you for explaining to others that it's a serious anxiety disorder that should not be made fun of.

I've been fortunate enough to only have to put up with a few people underestimating my disorder, and acting like it was nothing important, and those few people were annoying enough. OCD is actual mental disorder (that I personally am actually diagnosed with), and anyone who just throws the term around where ever is annoying. The same goes with "depressed" when you're just sad, "bipolar" when you're just mad, and "anxious" when you're just nervous, etc, etc. Unless you're actually diagnosed with it, don't just say that you have it

For Mn M's, I eat them from least favorite color to most favorite. And then to top that off, each side of my mouth has to have equal chewing. So it's left, right, left, right, and so on. Then when i have one left and it would start another left, right, I bite off half of it then eat it left, and the other half right.

      Is this subconscious? Or do you constantly think about it and fret if you do not fulfill it?
      If you do this without anxiety or compulsion, it is likely just a personal idiosyncrasy. If you obsessively remind yourself to do these things, you *may* have OCD or OCPD.

    As somebody's brother who was diagnosed with OCD 3 months ago. I can attest that it completely affects their quality of life, and the people around them. My brother could not go to school for months, and almost did not graduate to the eight grade. OCD often can go unnoticed as the cause if depression and anxiety. It was so bad to the point that my life was severely disrupted, everybody has their ups and downs, and OCD is definitely a cause of and anxiety. I thought that this video, and the song was amazing. We need to educate people, and young kids on what OCD is, and this is a great way to do it. I applaud Rhett and Link, and everybody else at GMM. Thank you for making this video
