I just purchased the Elysian 4 and you are right. They can play anything really, really well. With my previous speakers I found myself listening to acoustic and jazz music because that is what they excelled in and not to rock music which often ended up being a gloopy mess. With the Elysian it does not matter what I play. They sound wonderful driven by my Allnic 300b tube amp and my Kinki EX M1. I am rediscovering my music collection. It's great. Wharfedale, Audiolab, Quad, Luxman (at least still Japanese and decent). Let me tell you the Wharfedale Denton 85th has dreadful treble grain and id expect the same of the Linton which uses the same tweeter but it wont matter to most audiofool buyers because they arent aware the sound is bad, they just love the retro style with the low price and just give up on the sound. I recently tried a pair of Evo 4.1 and again theres just no life in the music which comes out smooth yet dull and with a midrange suckout effect and no body to the treble (a common flaw of Amt i find).

I have a pair of bookshelves from Wharfedale from their Diamond 10 series and they sound beautiful. I have them positioned about 6 feet from the back wall, about 8 feet from where I sit and ever so slightly toed in to my main listening position. I’m not sure if the toe in is actually necessary because these speakers have a wide soundstage as they are but I’m single and can sit wherever I want to so toed in they are . I’ve had them for about 7 years and until I can afford something like these Elsysians they will be more than satisfying for me.

Very good review Tharbamar, Wharfedale obviously have a bit a resurgence going on to release this speaker set, I dont recall seeing anything in this price bracket from them in many years. Hope you and family are well :o)
Some Reviewers say, elac vela 409s sound more open, with little netter bass dynamics. To me, the listening fatigue is also one of the most important characteristics. So if the Elysian is better @ listening fatigue and tonality IT should be the better speaker. Anyway a Thambahar comparison of Elysian and elac vela would be a very interesting thing.

mrwallen no, I am not, in Japan the prices are not far of either, Accuphase prices outside Japan are just crazy, in Japan they are the same as Luxman, people in the know have a lot of respect for the highest offerings intergrated from Denon, but unfortunately these amps are not sold in USA or Europe!
@@gryphongryph Yes, but just about every offering from Accuphase and *modern* Luxman (they had their dark times) is top shelf. Not so true with Denon. Their line is more in the class with Marantz. Now, the PMA-SX11 may be exceptional... I have yet to hear one so I can't say. The specs are great, but so are the specs of other PMA-series amps and some of them are nothing to get too excited over. If it indeed as good as you say, Denon need to do a better job of marketing their gear so that the consumer doesn't have to dig through their product line in order to separate the wheat from the chaff.
Hi Tharbamar, thank you so much for this review... partially based on this and other reviews, my dad and I are planning on purchasing either the Elysian 2 or 4. Next week we will demo both speakers. I have a question for you: What would you prefer -> pair of Elysian 2 + SVS SB3000 vs pair of Elysian 4. Amp: NAD M33. Thank you in advance and good luck with the channel!
Hi, for the most music you can do without sub E2 or E4 depending on the size of the room but if you like to hear deepest notes from classical music or modern music sub is a must, you can’t go wrong with either one but watch out for workmanship, the one I had have hairline crack on veneer on one of the speaker.thanks
I think this is the kind of speaker "you marry". Maybe not as immediately impressive as others, maybe not as fun for a short affair, but with the right qualities in the long run.
Should do focal Aria 948 comparison to theses even these are like big big bookshelf speakers still what one sounds better with details! That would be great review
Lovely review and speakers, maybe try diamond wiring with those speakers. Look up pursuit of perfect system here goes over it. Most hifi shops I go to also does this configure. If it doesn't work at least it was free to try
I am lucky enough to have heard these and the 4's. They are most definitely in the 'End Game' bracket. Sound quality is subjective and if you are looking for a speaker of similarly high levels of build quality, very similar sound quality, and having in my opinion, an even better representation of single-point source sound you should try the Tannoy XT 8F. They have now finished production but can still be bought new for under £2000 UK. I have owned the Tannoys for 18 months and have never experienced quality like that at the price point. Many Reviewers and also Kevin Deal from Upscale Audio in California have compared the Tannoys to speakers in the $10000 bracket when they cost $2700. The Tulip WaveGuide tweeter invented by Tannoy literally allows the speakers to disappear. In my opinion, it is even more effective than the Air Motion Transducer. I am not putting the Warfedales down in any way as being from the UK, I have always loved the brand, but at £5000 they only trump the Tannoys in ultimate build detail and esthetics.
Great delivery, excellent review, and I very much enjoy your vids. That said, why the Denon integrated? Sure, it has nice detail and excellent build quality, but there are so many great options in that price category. What about a CJ CAV45/50 or Manley Stingray? If you don't want tubes, what about a Plinius or LFD? Any of those would transport those Wharfdales to the next level. Cheers!!
Thanks for advice, the amps you’ve suggested can deliver 60Amp of current when is needed? Please advise. Edit; If I go tube amplifier there is only one brand which is Line Magnetic but no tube for me.
@@Tharbamar OK, fair enough, no tubes. The Plinius is a high current design, although I do not know how their amps compare to the output of the Denon PMA. I'm guessing given that since the Denon doubles power exactly going from 8Ω to 4Ω that its the high current champ in it's price range. Pass amps do that, and they are probably the best solid-state amps I have heard, but they cost more than the Denon. So your thinking is with low impedance speakers like the Wharfdales, you want an amp with sufficient current so that when you play loud you can accommodate any impedance dips? Makes good sense! Which amps did you compare the Denon to before you bought it?
@@82ivaylo So you have heard the PMA-SX11? What have you compared it to? Sonically, why is it better? I ask out of curiosity as I have never hear one and Tharbamar has piqued my interest.
I was considering trying the Linton Heritage, but I could stretch my budget to this speaker if I sell off a couple things. I want a speaker that doesn't make bad recordings unlistenable. I know it's almost silly to compare a 1500 dollar speaker to a 7500 dollar speaker but I was hoping you could shed some light on that aspect... i.e. is the Linton Heritage better for bad recordings?
Hello Tharbamar Place the Elysian 2s on a reinforced built in bookshelf /against a wall in an otherwise very large room… what’s your prediction on the sound quality change? Still acceptable or better to look to a different speaker? Thank you.
I would suggest replacing the Star Quads. I used them for a while until my oldest son replaced his and told me to replace mine as well. He first noticed the problems. Not only sonically, but my amp ran cooler after replacing them. Measurable increase in dynamics. He went to Belden Ten White (5T00UP). I and my younger son went to shotgunned Monster. All of us have very different but turntable based audiophile systems. The improvement was very noticeable in every case.
Canare Star Quad are great cables. Of course not the greatest. If I hear a speaker at a dealer singing great with 5k speaker cables and 7k ICs, I'd be wary to buy them unless I tried them with cables that I can afford. I think the focal point of this review is the speakers. And it makes sense to keep the rest of the chain as down-to-earth as possible.
No matter what you post some one will always have bad thing to say, The best is to enjoy it. You can not please even two people so enjoy just like I am ans move on.
Dear Tharbamar, may I kindly ask you for a few words of comparison to the KEF R11? I’m considering the Elysian 4, the bigger brother. Any insight would be much much appreciated
R11 is more exciting with any genre of music, in the beginning Elysian series was great but after awhile they were not as dynamic or exciting to listen especially when playing rock or modern music in general. They are both great sounding HiFi speakers but if you are after real live music quality like speed and impactful sound both lacks in that direction, thanks
@@Tharbamar Thank you! Any suggestion as to what speaker in the 5-10k€ category could have those properties that you mention? Additionally, do you think those properties changes as the speakers “broke in” or rather as you got used to the sound? Have you by any chance heard the JBL SYNTHESIS HDI 3800?
@@martin.krencey B&W Diamonds, KEF Reference can deliver, if you want to see the difference of braking-in, here is what I do. when you received brand new speaker play your favorite music, take some notes and put them in a room that you don't use let it play for 24/7 for 3-4 days without listening, then bring it back out to your main listening space and play very same songs as before and follow your hearing and compare to the notes from the out of the box listening section.
@@Tharbamar Great reply :D I thought they were in the same price range. I'm kind of already set on buying a Heritage Linton and a Bluesound Powernode 2i with Hdmi for my TV, but still doubt myself sometimes if they're the right choice
@@REGameFly Get the Linton's. With the Bluesound PowerNode 2i you can't get the SQ out of the Elysians. The Bluesound Powernode neither has the power/quality to bring out the best of the Elysians. Neither is the DAC good enough either. No reason to hook up a dac amp combo of nearly 1/5th of the price of the speakers. Seriously.
Hi and greetings from sunny Malta, very detailed and informative video as usual, can you tell from where I can buy the cds as I did manage to find on amazon thanks

If it indeed as good as you say, Denon need to do a better job of marketing their gear so that the consumer doesn't have to dig through their product line in order to separate the wheat from the chaff.
gryphongryph do you also think Lada is right up there with BMW and Mercedes as well? A Denon A110 is just flashy junk compared to a Luxman L-509X.
mrwallen ahh, you are a brand follower, sorry I took you for an audiophile, so this will be a waste of everyone’s life to discuss, have a nice day!
👍🏻beautiful speaker,good video bro
Hi Tharbamar,
thank you so much for this review... partially based on this and other reviews, my dad and I are planning on purchasing either the Elysian 2 or 4.
Beautiful sound. Not very bassy so not very fatiguing. Upper midrange sounds really good. No wonder female singers sound great .
amazing, it looks like you're all set to start exploring music + recreational drugs...
👍🤖👍
how do these elysian2 compare with kef r11
I discovered Wharfedale Speakers on RUclips and now I'm sure I need to hear them in real life. 😊☺
Love your reviews. Also where did you get those wall panels their Awesome. Thank you so much.
You can get them on Amazon called Art 3D, thanks
@@Tharbamar Thank you.
And what else did you use to make panel? Thanks again.
Looks GREAT! WOW..
$3,500 each. You are really moving on up!
Good review - you have here a new subscriber.
how do you compare this to kef reference 1 im planning about this wharfedale
Great review of absolutely gorgeous speakers, love the sound samples.
В итоге что взять эти колонки или Dynaudio special forty????
I think this is the kind of speaker "you marry". Maybe not as immediately impressive as others, maybe not as fun for a short affair, but with the right qualities in the long run.
Should do focal Aria 948 comparison to theses even these are like big big bookshelf speakers still what one sounds better with details! That would be great review
Ide like to see that as well.
That is too funny. I will have to buy this speaker just for the fun of getting my wife confused. That is scary realistic. What a speaker?
Lovely review and speakers, maybe try diamond wiring with those speakers. Look up pursuit of perfect system here goes over it. Most hifi shops I go to also does this configure. If it doesn't work at least it was free to try
Nice loudspeakers and nice integrated amp.
Wau so well round and dynamic
Sounds so amazing
Thanks for the advice.
Nevermind, I see you have a couple vids on the subject already. I'll watch those to get your opinions. Thanks!
Why Denon? Because its great sounding amplifier, the build quality is outstanding and its made in Japan. I will say best in class to my ears.
@@82ivaylo So you have heard the PMA-SX11? What have you compared it to? Sonically, why is it better? I ask out of curiosity as I have never hear one and Tharbamar has piqued my interest.
Beautiful setup!
Not bad. If you are mostly pleased with the sound and presentation, I would add an SVS PB-3000 ($1,300) and call it done.
I have the sub already. The speakers are next!
There is another more expensive model, the Wharfedale Airdale Heritage, let's try that!!!
Sound is pretty awesome.
Hello Tharbamar
Place the Elysian 2s on a reinforced built in bookshelf /against a wall in an otherwise very large room… what’s your prediction on the sound quality change? Still acceptable or better to look to a different speaker? Thank you.
Hi, It will muddy the sound output and stereo image will not be as good, I would suggest to try front ported speakers.
Isn't the Elephant in the room the Wharfedale Elysian 4 ? Wouldn't they be quite similar ? Would I get anything more from spending extra for the 4's ?
Will the Elysian 2 notably benefit from Bi-Wiring? (with NAD C298)
Thanks for advice.
Hi Tharbamar, why did you part with the Elysian 2? Didn't like it after all or?
I liked them very much but for my wide range of musical taste, KEF R11 fit my need. thanks
No matter what you post some one will always have bad thing to say, The best is to enjoy it. You can not please even two people so enjoy just like I am ans move on.
Very true. Thanks
where do you buy that stereo stand at..
They looks like milion $$$ Beautiful shape and look.
How do you think the Elysian range compares to the Wharfdale Revas? I have the Reva 4s.
More dynamic attack and detail sound with bigger scale.
Should I get the Heritage Lintons or these?
That’s six thousand dollars question, my answer is yes if you don’t mind spending $6k more over Linton for better sound quality.
@@Tharbamar Great reply :D
I thought they were in the same price range.
Seriously.
The big question now is whether the Elysian 4 will match your room!
It will be too much for his room, it needs space to perform it's best.
@@blkmacster exactly my thinking as well, but can’t tell without knowing the room.
Hi and greetings from sunny Malta, very detailed and informative video as usual, can you tell from where I can buy the cds as I did manage to find on amazon thanks
hi, ebay is the easiest place to find these SACDs, thanks
I never get why people test speakers using this chamber music which sounds good on any speaker. Feed it some good live recordings of pop/rock bands and you will hear the limitations (or none). Otherwise nice video, keep it up!
Exactly bro... Like do audiophiles only listen to one kind of genre? come one put on some Rock or Techno some EDM maybe even.
@@kedduff1814Techno?, se joden los altavoces con esa música.
I'm with ya. I remember being at an expo and even a prospective buyer had to request some decent music and he brought acdc. It was glorious to hear it through a high end system. The whole room thought so too.
Just wondered if your going to review the new Wharfedale Diamond 12 series speakers as think it's about time i upgraded from my JPW Sonata speakers
You can't go wrong with any speaker from the Diamond series. They all punch way above their price bracket and look yummy to boot!
İ would listen to these speakers only from youtube
Hi Tharbamar,
Love the review. Heard u compared it with the B&W805D3, would like your views as I am interested in both the Elysian 4 and the B&W800D3. I know there is a big price difference but looking at the build quality and sound of the Elysian i am really keen to explore as it look very good value and I listen to vocals and like an engaging non-fatiguing and musical sound. Look forward to your views !
Hi, I tried B&W speakers in diamond range, they’re very impressive but they do have a little fatiguing sound for me in the long run.
This Elysian range is perfectly balanced sound that I can enjoy without getting tired. Thanks
dangit... I thought my aria 948 was my end game speakers.... now I need to hear these...
the Aria 948 are Wharfedale Evo 4.4 competitors. These are 2 levels above those. This one competes with Dali Epicon, Monitor Audio Platinum, B&W 800 Diamond etc.
Hi Tharbamar. Nice set up, sound very good as well. Will that be your endgame system?
I already have the end game system. I think the system is good enough for me and I really enjoy it but I still interest to read and watch other hifi stuffs.
Any chance you can review the new ls50 and ls50 wireless. I really wonder how it sound different than the old one?
Thank you for your videos. I really enjoy them. 😀👍👍👍.
Hi! Sir Tharbamar what speaker would you suggest i have a pair of mcintosh 275 markVI & a NAD preamp 165bee & a 10" inch wharfdale subwoofer and a Sonus faber chameleon tower speaker, i would love to own that Elysian2, will it upgrade the sound of my system? I mostly listen to 70's classic rock vinyl lp's....any speaker suggestion will be highly appreciated...i'm 59 yrs.old from MANILA PHILIPPINES.., Thanks a lot & Godbless
Hi! Thank you for the wishes.
Elysian 2 will give you good sound upgrade over Chameleon speakers and it will sound great with you set up, thanks
@Tharbamar Can you tell who the artist is on the first one "halleluja" ? I tried with Shazam but it didnt findt it. Also the second audio clip if you can tell, the vocals sounds familiar. Wait I think the last one is Grace Mahya right ? From the album Last Live at DUG.
I have included artist name with big picture in each video. First one is Yao Si Ting and 2nd is Grace Mahya.
@@Tharbamar Thx I missed the picture but see it now. I know them both then. A shame they are not on Tidal but I have some of Grace Mahya's on SACD and one of Yao Si Ting as Flac files. They both sound great. Thx again.
@@Tharbamar unfortunately both are not in Tidal
How are these in relation to Evo 4.2 Thank you.
Same design theory but with bigger and better parts.
The AMT tweeter is the winner here for soundstage
