  • Aerial Silks Cross Back Straddle Tutorial | UNIQUE AERIALISTS
    Safety First: Use a qualified rigger to rig your aerial silks. Be fully warmed up before you attempt any exercises on the aerial silks. Place a crash mat underneath you and have a spotter to assist you.
    Common mistakes:
    Feet being uneven - your feet need to be completely equal height or your Cross Back Straddle will be very wonky!
    Not able to pull your shoulders through the silks - keep your feet together. Push your hips forward to prevent the silks getting caught on your bum. Lean back as your bring your shoulders through. This does take quite a lot of strength, do some conditioning exercises to increase your strength before attempting this if you need to.
    The silks getting stuck on your bum as you try to bring the cross up to your lower back - pull up with your arms to create some slack. Start to widen your legs then push your feet forward and your hips back at the same time, this might take some practise!
    Can't flip over - this is really hard as you need to do a lot all at the same time. Follow all of the instructions, if you miss one thing eg pulling up, then you won't flip over.
    Legs bending while your are inverting or coming down out of the move - it's so easy to bend your legs but once they start bending the silks will keep increasing the tension on them which will make it really hard to straighten them, engage your quads and focus on keeping them straight throughout the movement.

    Slightly bending my knees all of a sudden made this possible for me for some reason. And pushing forward with my hands. I've been struggling with this move for so long but finally did it for the first time today. :)

    Do you have to be able to invert from the air to do this? I’ve been struggling with this for weeks. I can only invert from the air by swinging and I also can’t do a pull up. Idk if I should work on my strength before trying this again. Thanks for the video! Very helpful

    Thank you so much for the tutorial! I have a quick question for you. :) When I try to pull myself upside down into the straddle there is a lot of pressure with the x. Do you have any suggestions on how to smoothly send myself into the pose? Thank you! 🙃

    • @ansleyh3179
      @ansleyh3179 4 года назад

      Not sure if that made any sense...

    • @UniqueAerialists
      @UniqueAerialists  4 года назад +2

      This is such a tricky move as you need to do a lot at the same time to tip over smoothly! Make sure you're pulling up using your arms to create some slack which will release the pressure. As you're pulling up using your arms, engage your core to lift your legs instead of swinging or just leaning backward. Keep your legs straight, if you bend your legs slightly then try to straighten them as you're tipping over this will create tighten the silks across your back. Hope that helps!

    Yay thank you so much! I needed this tutorial :) One question: is their any easier way to pull up into it or does it just come with practice ? I am really struggling with this. 💕

    • @UniqueAerialists
      @UniqueAerialists  5 лет назад +1

      This is probably not the answer you want but lots of practise! It's definitely more technique than strength so I usually find once people do it once then it clicks! I've listed the common mistakes in the description box so something in there might help :) you've got this!!

      My gym teaches to find the spot that works for you (slightly higher than your head) and push the silk with a flat hand toward your hip as you invert.

    This may sound stupid but is there a way to stop it from digging it in because when I do a stradle it really hurts and by the way i love your channel so much 😊

    • @UniqueAerialists
      @UniqueAerialists  5 лет назад +1

      Digging into your sides? I find it most comfortable to have the silks on my waist but some people find it more comfortable to have them resting on their hips, you might need to play around with a few different positions to see what feels best, usually just a centimetre or two will make a lot of difference!
