Most Texas rappers are like that. Most of them started off in the mainstream & then branched off to the underground. He's still doing his thing & to me he's better with time
I think that why lots of people who like Northern California rap also enjoy lots of Texas rap.. both places have rappers who are more about keeping their style and culture over selling out.
I went to a Paul Wall / Chamillionaire show like 10 years ago and talked to Paul at his merch table for a couple minutes and he was super awesome the whole time.. great dude!
Paul Wall is still dropping music but he's isn't mainstream tho. He's underground & he's doing more grown folks music & he ain't rapping bout no grills anymore. He dropped an album with Statik Selectah & it's dope AF. Paul Wall is still doing well & he has businesses aside from music.

CDs became a thing of the past. That's what happened to a lot of rappers. They used to have to make a whole good album which Paul wall was good at. So you'd get a cd that had more than one good song on it. Then the iPod era hit and started the downward spiral of complete albums. So complete CDs just sat on the shelves because it was now about who could make the fastest singles.
Paul Wall ain't Hollywood he down to Earth met him once at a show in Texas before he got real big and he was all about kicking it and getting to know his fans. Awesome dude.

He also is a partner in "Deluxe Vodka" Played in 5 or 6 movies He has his own weed strain at Sattelite Supply Co, Gold Leaf rolling papers, vaporizers etc. And then the more not in detail stuff with for example Texan Wire Wheels, Vogue tires, etc etc So he aint sittin still and probably makes alooot of money.
