Pro tip: if you use a D-Tap to USB/PD puck, you can do V-Mount changes without powering down the S1, by leaving the OEM battery in the camera! I’ve found this massively useful
THIS! - You also avoid the risk of corrupting your files when your V-mount dies before swapping it out. The only trade off is USB-C is a trash connection port and it can be trickier to get a cable that is the right size but also doesnt protrude too far. I'd go with the Kondor Blue right angle USBC so you can get it more flush to the body and your hand isnt bumping it. I use Vmount plates that can do USBC....what DTap to USB cable are you using?
I bought a used S1 as a b-camera to my rigged-up S5, but I'm continually find myself reaching for it over the S5. Don't know what it is. Just such a great camera ergonomically and the bigger tilt screen is better. Hadn't really thought about getting a cage for it and rigging it up. It's even more complicated by the S5 mark II & IIx releases (one of which I'll need in my life)...so which camera to sell to make room for a mark II? This video is great food for thought.
Thank you, Josh. The wireless focus pull looks really interesting (although I still get sad knowing that we kind of NEED focus pull for our Panasonic cameras). Were you using a DTap splitter to power both the camera and the Ninja V? (I must have missed that if you mentioned that.)
Thanks for sharing. I’ve setup my S5 with a rig like you posted a while back and have really been enjoying it. I’ve thought about doing this with my S1, but can’t work out how to easily and quickly change settings if I need to access the menu, since the screen is blocked by the battery. Do you use the Lumix app with your phone, or just slide the battery back and forth on the rails?
That’s awesome , would love to see your S5 rig! So normally I leave a little bit of space between the battery and the LCD screen so I can peer and see all the settings if I need to, but the nice thing with the S1 is that top LCD display that shows your ISO, Aperture and Shutter settings too. Normally the camera is always set to V-Log and I rarely mess with anything else, so that too LCD is perfect:)
The S5 is lighter and easier to rig up with stabilisers, so it stays as my agile body ready to be chucked into any scenario 🙌🏼 this rig stays set up permanently:)
Hey, as always love your content! I have both the S1 and the S5. Has it been your experience as well, the S5 tends to be sharper than the S1 at least my copies. Is that your finding as well? Thank you!
1. Thank you for doing a S1 video since there is (I feel like) a total of 4 out there lol 2. Thanks for sharing the wireless follow focus system. I'm looking to build a similar rig and I also need a wireless system for when I use my RS2 gimbal (as sometimes the built in wheel isn't in the best place. How do you choose when to use the S5 vs S1?
Hey thanks for watching! So I normally use the S1 for handheld stuff as it stays rigged up like this all the time, and then my S5 stays stripped back so it’s ready for gimbal work and also for photography. This way I can jump between everything really easily :)
Yes of course! You'd probably need a different top handle and cage though so it's not in the way of the hot shoe, but there's definitely work arounds out there :)
Hi Josh , very nice content as always !!! I have the S1 and the black magic 12g 5" , and I have a problem with playback in the camera when connected to an external monitor "the screen is black" I can only put play in the monitor with the little jog wheel. Did u found a work around ? That would be a blessing !
Thanks mate! I rarely use a side handle with this setup as it adds extra bulk and unnecessary weight, but I use side handles all the time with the BS1H because they’re a necessity!
@@JoshCameron Yes it is exacly the same. But I put only one screw in and it seems to not move, but it is not possible to put a second one, does not fit. ruclips.net/video/-1CQJJkSJj8/видео.html the screw you put closest to the camera is where i put mine also.
Thanks mate very useful 👍 Do you know if it's possible to record externally to Samsung T5 ssd or something like that ? I know s1h can, but what about s1 ?
I’m guessing if you put everything on nato rails and quick release plates you could get the tear down time to be pretty speedy, but it’s just a lot of setting up and taking apart unfortunately
I have a S1, I’m going to keep using my Pocket 4k for film. I think the S1 and all those Panasonic cameras are too sharp. Looks amazing but they just don’t feel the same when I look at everyone’s short films. The Pocket 4k and 6k are much more organic looking.

Ah that’s so awesome! I’ve got to give this a try!
That's awesome. I love my S1. Your channel has helped me a lot. Thanks
Thanks for watching mate, glad the channel has been useful to you!

Nice rig, brother!
Cheers mate 👌🏻🙌🏼
Great vid Josh, love the rig too….so tempted by those anamorphics
What an awesome setup! You make me miss my s1!
It's a solid chunk of a camera, I love it!
My go-to Lumix guy!
Very nice setup! I have something similar without the big battery setup..will be checking that out…thanks a lot !!
Panasonic ❤❤❤
great nice. I'm using the same setting
S1 was my dream camera when it came out 😊. But i bought sigma fp cause internal raw 12bit. 😊
Nice rig man. Love that air2s
It's so cool! Such a nice addition and is a life saver :)
Does the Alvin’s wire transmit the 6k signal?
Thank you, Josh. The wireless focus pull looks really interesting (although I still get sad knowing that we kind of NEED focus pull for our Panasonic cameras). Were you using a DTap splitter to power both the camera and the Ninja V? (I must have missed that if you mentioned that.)
So the V-Mount battery itself has two d-tap ports, so I can power both the camera and the ninja V without any splitters!
@@JoshCameron Thanks for the reply. Didn't realize it had two D-tap ports.
Amazing rig bro😎💯✨💫
Always inspiring to see your work💯
Cheers from Bangalore, India🍻
Thanks dude!
Great video Josh! We will have to send you some cinema magic for that matte box cinema rig 😎😎
That would be awesome! Loved using the mist filters out in Japan - some tasty anamorphic footage coming soon ✌🏼
@@JoshCameron Very exciting! Cannot wait to see another one of your fantastic adventures.

Maybe use longer rails?

i need to know the lens support is
isnt the hdmi cable block your mic port? had one like that but couldnt use it because of that saddly
Why you don't chose S5 is Excellent IBIS and HDMI ports in S1??🥺🥺

👏 👏 👏
Looking into this set up… can you use the lumix xlr adapter in this very configuration?

That HDMI cable. Is it rated for 4k-8k data speeds?
Looks great!
Thanks dude :)
How much shooting time do you get on that 99 v.mount battery on the camera on monitor?
Solid rig
Thanks mate!
I like this Rig 👍 very well build. Do you never use a side handle?

Sirui video asap!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
It's happening soon!
I got the exakt same setup BUT I can't get the screws to match up with the holes on the smalrig rod holder!
Ah really? I wonder why that is! Is it the same components?

Please total weight?
Why do you not using Lumix gh6?
I'm heavily invested in the L-Mount ecosystem so investing into M43 for me just wouldn't be financially viable :)
Nice.... I need that focus puller... Nice and compact.... But I have no real need for one right now 🤣
It’s such a life saver, I love it so much! Probably the best one I’ve seen on the market
The only thing it stops to be a proper cine camera is the rolling shutter. I love its image colors better than my a7siii. Vlog
Yeah exactly, rolling shutter is always a shame , but it’s not too bad with this setup!
Is there a quicker way to move from such rig to a rs2 gimbal which has its own proprietary quick release system?
Buy a second camera :)
I’m guessing if you put everything on nato rails and quick release plates you could get the tear down time to be pretty speedy, but it’s just a lot of setting up and taking apart unfortunately

The “too sharp” comes from the lack of an anti aliasing filter.
Personally I would use the Panasonic S1 and Panasonic S1H as Super 35mm cinematic camera's
Why use dummy batteries
you record no sound?
