Its weird that petty crime is not growing while murder is. Like there is a fair bit of research that seems to link poor economic conditions to crime but normally that's petty crime, like theft. Not murder.

Who bothers reporting those petty crimes anyways. Swedish police barely manages to investigate murders. Just cross the border, in Norway - police has like 100% murder solving rate (no unsolved murders for over a decade). Sweden is a shitshow in Scandinavia, and there hasn't been a lack of warnings over the years.

Sweden's problems are not caused by poor economic conditions. They are caused by a youth-culture that idolizes gangsters. Especially among young immigrants. Your comment proves the point.

As someone who lives in Stockholm, I'd suggest that the panic about crime has led to a crackdown that targeted mostly petty crime, as it is most easy to target. So that could be a reason why petty crime is in check.

I think a pragmatic of this issue is that decreasing government expenditure and increasing the population is obviously a terrible idea. Neo-liberalism has clearly failed the West in general. Social integration among society as a whole is also failing as a result. Migrants are then trapped in between.

  • @Maas_Grande

Its sad that the warnings of right-leaning perspectives were continually ignored and treated as racism, "islamophobia", fascism, patriarchy, etc. and now the effects of unskeptical immigration that were forecast are being felt.
Immigration has to be vetted. There are LOTS of good immigrants, but the fewer bad ones have an absurdly outsized effect on crime and resistance to adoption of cultural norms of the host state.
Law and order are necessary to facilitate liberal values and strengthen an increasingly equal state. The people that want to do good cannot succeed when they're plagued by rampant crime. The left's irresponsible compassion allows more harm than it produces good.
Results should be the foremost target of policy, not international optics and whether ignorant students think it's a good idea.

It’s important to note that the housing crisis in Ireland is not caused by a lack of supply. The main cause of the housing crisis is property investment funds (mainly from the USA and Canada) buying up residential units and leaving them empty to sell at a higher price or using them for short term tourist accommodation (AirBnB). In some counties in Ireland, there are up to 50 times more listings for Airbnb apartments than there are long-term rental listings. It’s not a supply issue, it’s a government policy and regulation issue.

Regarding sexual assault, note that the statistics show an increase in *reporting* of crimes, which is not the same thing as an increase in *occurrences* of crimes.
Sweden relatively recently made changes to the laws around sexual assault to broaden the scope of what is considered a crime and what is considered a serious crime.
As someone living here it also feels like there’s an increasing willingness to acknowledge and report sexual assault when it happens.
It’s often stated that most sexual assaults go unreported. It’s a positive thing if more of these crimes are actually getting reported in Sweden, and are properly being categorised as crimes.
I’m not saying that there’s no increase in these awful assaults, just that there are no simple conclusions to be drawn from that graph and it’s disappointing that TL;DR didn’t apply their usual level of nuance to these statistics.

But gang murders carried out in immigrant areas will usually not have anyone who want to testify (which is reasonable, they can end up dead), and no one involved in the conflict will talk to the police. The DA can't negotiate with criminals regarding punishment either, so the state can't offer any insscentive to rat.

Exactly. The segregation is extremely dangerous. Fortunately, I think this is going in the right direction, following the decrease of immigration it will probably become more diluted in the long run due to simple diffusion. This is especially the case if we work actively against segregation, which is not impossible
The problem is that the toxic immigrant subculture can suck up new working immigrants, or harshen the policies so much they dampen this important immigration. This working-class immigration is extremely important due to the failing fertility rates

But this is human behavior, we have to live with, China town, Little Italy in New york as well, as Rinkeby as little Somalia. Swedes in Spain, or thailand always gather in their community's, lets say 70-80%. Rest want to try something new, and do not hang out with thier own, it's very difficult by human rights to forcibly move people away from eachother. Though you could and I think its good, that people might have to live and get help in the beginning in a certain area of Sweden, They cannot choose their living area when they are seeking asylum as an ex. And we swedes need to be more welcoming as well, the last 15 years I seen, it come back again the situaion that we had ALOT of in the 90is, people not wanting any immigrant to live in thier "swedish area", how in the hell are they then able to integrqate. Its impossible to integrate without the general population helping them to. I am a etnic swede, almost all my life I grew up in these kind of areas, low income, high immigrant leverls etc. I see how people struggle all thier life's, mothers how have 4 jobs, becuase yes 99,9 % are doing the right thing! they are good, paying taxes sooo many work, and hate gang violence, its become more mainstream now whrn the genreal "swede" sees the problem on her/his street, now its serious? IT's always been serious! always.
Donä't forget that sweden has the fastest growing income gaps all over the western world! This does not make it esier, the gov. sold out, hospitals, schools welfare, trains etc. all is about cash, stock market, sweden is at the same time producing loads of millioners every yeat,. and we know how many poor is produced at the same time, much more!

they do make the effort, when the state guide them. There's a big difference in the Netherlands between the morrocan guetos (product of bad immigration management decades ago) and the more recent syrian refugees, much better integrated . The difference is that the later were provided tools like language learning, professional education and well distributed housing. The Moroccans didn't have that, so generations of them are growing in guettos that feel alienated from the rest of the poblation
The problem is never immigration itself, but how it's managed. Sweden made the same mistake the Dutch made decades ago with the Moroccans.

Here in Italy we have been dealing with the Mafia from time immemorial, and they too like to use minors to commit crimes and homicides. But let me tell you that longer sentences did not help in stopping or limiting organized crime. Gangs and such don't send minors to commit crimes just because they get shorter sentences, but also because it's a form of initiation in the gang and to not get senior members directly involved. What the Swedish government should do is focus on fighting the gangs as organizations rather than focusing on their individual members, like being arrestable simply for being linked to organized crime even if there isn't any direct link to some concrete crime, or protecting and rewarding gang members that turn against their own gang in favor of the law.
The last exemple helped us Italians in weakening and even destroying some mafia groups, and even if the Mafia problem today is far from solved and some groups are still powerful, organized crime as a whole is less violent than the past.
This is only one side of an issue that obviously requires and multilateral approach, but on regards of legal rulings and law I believe that these options would be better to fight sweeds criminal gangs.

I don't know, I'm not so sure that Italy has been so successful in fighting the Mafia, it could be, on the contrary, that there are implicit agreements whereby if the Mafia avoids showing too much violence then the law is willing to close a watch out, or the mafia has changed its modus operandi to be less attackable, this would also explain why the 'Ndrangheta is the most powerful organisation, precisely because it avoids the type of violent crime that instead characterizes the Camorra or Cosa Nostra.

Sweden had a extremly good welfare state but from late 1990 onward they reduced it more and more. The current criminal activities are mainly centered in the low income areas. Children have basically no future because of the structures and the difficultues they face because the integration and support for immigrants failed completly. This is prime ground clans to recruit young children.
This also gave rise to the right wing in sweden accelerating the process of reducing welfare and increasing inequalty which also increases crime activities.

I'm not Swedish, but I firmly believe that if you want to immigrate to a nation, that is completely fine, this world was made for humans to live, BUT in the condition that you obey that country's system and try your best to fully assimilate yourself to that country. This can include learning their language, appreciating and observing their culture, being able to mix with the people of that country, respecting their laws and most importantly proving oneself useful to the country (like doing a good job that country can appreciate).
If you cannot respect the country which welcomes you with open arms and gives you citizenship or PR, then you should not be their in the first place and chose your own home country or the 200 other countries available on Earth, if doing simple things like this is so hard for you.

Idk how they were able to do so, but I think it's also unfair to many legal immigrants who worked hard to live here and are still giving their best.

Economic crime exists. People in organized crime don't mind setting up semi-legal or legal companies. A welfare check is not a lot of money, but an entire little service company makes a lot more.
I don't know if it's an entirely similar example, but it reminded me of how the mafia runs garbage services in Naples. Garbage services are not illegal themselves, but they can skimp on the service to give themselves a higher margin.

Sweden has done more than enough to integrate its foreign citizens. In fact, no country in the world does more than Sweden: Free school to teach migrants the Swedish language (SFI, SAS, etc.)... free social welfare during the integration years (an unemployed migrant gets housed and fed while learning Swedish); special employment programs to integrate migrants in the work market, etc.

The "special employment programs to integrate migrants" have not been widespread and mostly symbolic; the average time for a refugee to enter the labour market is somewhere around 7-9 years, due to strong unions causing the barriers to enter very high.
Allow any refugee to work outside of the unions collective agreements while maintaining their benefits (as long as the salary is below some certain limit) and the time to enter the labour market would drastically reduce, and gangs would lose a large pool of potential recruits.

HOWEVER, just like in the US and Latin America, there are certain areas that are unsafe because they are effectively outside the control of the Swedish government. Meaning that they are like tiny countries within Sweden, ruled by warlords. Police, ambulances and firefighters refuse to enter those areas, so the local inhabitants there are left to fend for themselves. The people living there are sometimes forced to pay "taxes" (=extortion) to the local rulers.
But as long as you avoid those areas, you can have a fantastic time in Sweden. Beautiful sceneries and most Swedes are also beautiful, well-mannered and highly educated. Sweden is a technologically advanced country with a lot of creativity and innovation going on.

Well TLDR? Why is Sweden’s Crime Rate Soaring?
No answers, or possible answers given. Why can't you even mention the causes? Or what people THINK are the causes? Ask a fascist why they vote that way, and you might get an answer. You wont like it, and you wont be able to talk about it, . . but it might be true. Or not.

I don’t understand why, in Europe, we give immigrants citizenship when instead issuing temporary work permits would suffice.

it's no coincidence that the crime rate has grown hand in hand with immigration.

    This is not rocket science!
Groups of immigrants that come from a completely different world and have nothing in common with Swedish society will never be able or willing to integrate and instead form a parallel society with its own laws and norms.
Just as an example, What do Somalis and Swedes have in common?

The fact theres common use of grenades also suggests sweden may be experiencing lots of arms smuggling

    • @SusCalvin
      @SusCalvin 10 месяцев назад

Hand grenades are smuggled in. There's still caches of arms from the Balkan wars of the 90's floating around Europe. Munitions have a long expiration date. An old source used to be army depots, when they still had stashes for partisan war stored around the place.
All the nordic countries have historically wonky explosives laws. Explosives could remain in wonky categories closer to construction tools. These laws have changed. They figured that maybe Breivik shouldn't be able to buy large amounts of explosive materials, and maybe explosives should be brought up closer to firearms in a legal sense.

Yes, large quantities of weapons from fromer Yugoslavia countries (Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia) etc.. Also weapons from Middle East and Russia/Ukraine war. The criminal gangs don't just import drugs, they also import heavy duty firepower too.

@@salkoharper2908 Weapons have been in circulation for a while. There's no constant surge for arms, not like drugs and services that are constantly consumed. Groups around Europe can store arms and move them to other parts of the continent when buyers want them.
Reusing firearms seems to happen. A firearm does not expire after being used in once incident.
New and exotic techniques like printing a firearm is still a bit ahead into the future. You can print a firearm but it's not going to compare to even a decades-old machined firearm.

Awful reporting, far below the standard I have come to expect from TLDR and its even-handed approach to unbiased reporting while showing both sides of the argument. The topic just regurgitates right-wing talking points without the proper context. For example, the "statistic" about sexual assault per capita is just flung in without contextualizing that Sweden has much less stringent rules for what qualifies as sexual assault and has a far more robust reporting/prosecution system in place than most other countries, but the statistic is just flung in along with gun crime that leads the assumption Sweden is being plagued by raping and shooting immigrants. The avalanche of comments on this video being islamophobic and bigoted, being the obvious consequence.

I too have noticed TLDR swinging far right dog whistles, which is very dissapointing. Feels like they figured that brings in the troll farm armies and increases engagement exponentially, buts its such such a shame...
