Meanwhile the entire time his opponents have call-worthy hands in top pair and a pocket pair that both could be the best hand. They then get to see free cards, see the board get scarier, and know with 100% certainty they can't even call value. And even if someone hits a straight, they might still have to fold to a flush, boat, or even quads. Had he bet earlier and increased their equity, he could have elicited a bluff on the river or at least gotten value.
