Thanks for the great review. I love this racket---got 2 of the prototypes and my game has transformed. can you spotlight any specific changes to the final version from the prototype 315? Thanks!
When the rackets were sold to us, we were told that there are a few differences. Mostly on one of the models and the other model remained untouched. Looking at the rackets in front of me, they do post a few specs and they are identical. I have reached back out to Wilson to get more data, and I can forward that to you when available
I can't help it, but this looks so much like a response to the Gravity. 10 strings in the throat might be a novelty, but comes with a very tight string pattern in the center. And the 99 sq in sounds kinda random, just to sound different. Not sure if I ever want to test it, I have just settled in with my Yonex.
The gravity has a much thinner beam and rounded head with a nice soft flex. I think the Shift is a technology play looking to advance the industry like the Clash release did. They handed these out to just about every player at the U.S. Open the year of Covid. Well before the release of the gravity, so it doesn’t seem like it was a response to that.
Firstly, thank you for the in-depth review. My question is around your ratings at the end. It’s my understanding that the focal point of the technology and one of the main purposes of making the racket was to increase spin (at least for this category), but you have that as the lowest rating, a 6, and if you mentioned it in the video other than trivially, I missed it. I currently play a Blade V8 98 18x20 and looking into getting the Shift pro. I use a hybrid natural mains ALU big banger cross at 49lbs. I would say I’m an all court player with greater tendency for hard low trajectory baseline shots (appreciate the spin for this element of my game) but also use heavy spin for backhand slice (side spin emphasis) and think it’s gonna play well for me. I’m a one hand backhander, heavy top spin and power. The problem is the demos at my store use polys with 55lb tension (probably much lower by the time you get it out), and I think I’ll like it, but hard to project with such a different string bed. The motivation for buying is to increase power slightly and gain or at least maintain spin parity. I also have a v14 RF ProStaff (similar string setup but bit higher tension) which plays well at the baseline for me, but spin is poor comparatively. I’m 6’2 240lbs and pretty fit, just for additional context. Could you offer your thoughts on if I can expect to get slightly to moderate increases in spin and power over my Blade?
Great thorough question! Thanks so much for this. A couple things we wanted to start off with. Rackets can categorized into 5 weight classes. (weight class 1 for very young players and weight class 5 as the heaviest for the most physically strong and talented players.) The first 2 steps for finding the best racket for you is 1. Category/Silo that matches your objectives 2. Sizing the correct weight class to your skill/physique. RF97 = classic play and weight class 5. Blade 18x20 = flat all court weight class 3. Shift Pro = flat all court weight class 4. Seems as though your goals are for spin with added power. What is your grip style? Answer to q # 1 = i understand wilson markets the Shift as an innovative spin friendly racket. For me personally as an 18x20 i got no spin generation. Answer to q #2 = it seems as a physically strong player you would be in weight class 4 or 5. I would recommend the Babolat Aero 98 or 100 Tour (depending on your grip style), Head Extreme Tour, or Yonex Vcore 98. 98 sq inch head works well for your 1 handed backhand. Those are in the spin silos. Also weight class 4. If you stick with the Blade, go to the 16x19 for spin but it will be lighter than you are used to and designed mainly for control. :))
Great and early review brother! Idk what How I feel about the all white...yeah it’s clean but I was hoping the prototype would look more distinguishable from this Offical release. P.s love the bronze pro staff slander...mentions all other Wilson PJs. Lool
Hahah yeah. For all that Wilson does well you feel like they didn’t really do much cosmetic change from the concept variation. Seems a little lazy or rushed. But I like the look of the concept racket so I don’t mind that it didn’t change much.
Cant see vertical ra becoming more important than seingweightvand balance but played with the 300 version and quite like it (slightly less than Pro Staff) trying the Pro version next week
We do our own proprietary patterns and almost always favor 1 piece. Having said that for the 18x20 you could try 21 feet main and 19 feet cross if you want to half set.
Great review. Why did you specifically mention those with two-handed backhand as those who would gravitate towards the racquet? What about players with one-handed backhand? Did any of your play testers w one-handed backhand try it?
funny you mentioned the "six one", I assume the pro staff six one. I still hit with a pro staff classic 6.1. I love the weight and plow. maybe i'll demo a shift one of these days. i play with a one handed bh however.
excellent video!!! I am currently playing with the babolat pure aero 2022 (alcaraz) 100 hoop, do you think the wilson shift v1 would improve my game by giving me more control and feel? Which of the two rackets is better in your opinion? thank you so much!!!
Thank you. Alcaraz endorses the Pure Aero 98. Do you play the 98 or 100? The Aero is known for spin and little feel. The shift 99 is for vertical flexing spin. You can get feel from using certain strings and keeping your racket. What string do you currently use?
Hello, good video. I am a player who hits very powerful but flat, my blows go 20 centimeters from the net and I always fight a lot so that the ball does not come out of the background. Is dificult for me lift the ball. Which racket would you recommend a wilson shift racket, pure aero 2023, special for lifting or a control racket with a thin frame like Blade v8 or dunlop cx200? Thanks a lot
Wilson really kept that cosmetic? 🤦🏻♂️ If ever a racquet to apply their chameleon paint to, it’s a racquet called the Shift. What a missed opportunity

We have a video measuring the vertical RA of all the top rackets coming soon 😁
Hello from Greece.. if you pleased I will appreciate if you tell me the length I will have to cut the string in two pieces..
With the larger head size, beam, and setup it lends itself better for 2 handed bh players
i've been waiting for the official version! But only 18x20 pattern is coming out?
There will be as mentioned in the video a pro at 315 g, a standard variation at 300 g, and a new L midweight version.
Would you recommend for an old school, one handed backhand game? Especially the one hander?
For one handed bh players Yonex Vcore Pro line, Wilson Pro Staff, Head Prestige, or Babolat Strike are the go to silos
I have the Wilson shift 300 and I really love it. I got 2 of them. When’s the shift pro v1 come out?
Release date is in the score card towards the end of the video 😃. Looking like mid July

What head size 6.1 do you use? I’ve used the 95 which is def one hander friendly but not so much with this 99

@@SolowSports I'm playing with the 100 hoop version, I weigh 300 grams, solinco tour bite string 1.25 to 23 kilos, would wilson improve on this?
@@jesuscamargo6820 Neither of those rackets are classified as "feel" rackets sadly.

Im not sure i understand the question. Are you seeking more power, control, or spin? Do you play net, baseline, or all court? What is your grip style?
What is the vertical flex on this racquet?
Great question. Going to measure it on the tune, pro and post a video soon 😁
Any rumours or news on the blade v9?
That’s a long ways away. Probably summer/U.S. Open launch next year. But we can all dream 😁 can’t wait for it
Best tennis store on the island
Thank you!!! You are too kind. But why only Long Island?? hahahha kidding. Hope to see you in shop soon :))
Ordered today…
You’ll be very happy 👍
👏👏👏👏
😁
Wow 😮
🙀
Sounds like an 😲awsome racket
@@tennis-fan Absolutely if you fit the player profile discussed at the end of the video :)
@SolowSports waiting for 300 version too to be released 😉
@@tennis-fan We have that one too. Review of the prototype is already on the channel and new finalized racket video coming soon

Haha. Good call!!
