Now the powers of heaven do serve invisibly with us. Lo, the King of Glory enters. Lo, the mystical sacrifice is upborne, fulfilled. Let us draw near in faith and love, and become communicants of life eternal. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.
Bought this recording a couple months ago. These basses are GODS among men. Seriously. On no other album have I heard C's, B's, Bb's so present, rich, clear. Gah. This album was a truly awesome discovery for me. Grechaninov's music is so incredible and how great to have 2 of the greatest choirs today to bring these works to life. Bravo! I hope to audition for the KCC someday =D
If I had to buy one rendition of Grechaninov's Passion Week, it would be the Polyansky recording, with Zlatopolsky (octavist). That said, Bruffy has achieved a stunning work, drawing essentially on American choirs, and using the style of hyper-smooth phrasing, standard to American and UK choral sound. Heck...I'd buy both, for different reasons ;)
Again, this is a gorgeous recording, though I'd say almost too "clean" and bright. But again, I've listened to the Polyansky recording a bazillion times so maybe I'm just used to the more saturated sound of the Russian choir. Regardless, this is a brilliant piece (the whole Passion Week is).
The best version of the Kansas City Chorale/ Phoenix Chorale. Truly no comparison to the current version.

Charles Bruffy took time out of his day to come see our choir class and give us tips. What a good person.

Check our King's College choir's version of Rachmaninoff's Lirturgy of St. John. Especially the Creed. At the end, they hit a ridiculous B flat

It's worth it; I own it.❤
Gorgeous and lovely!
Thank you for sharing Sam. I heard this piece for the first time on the radio yesterday and it took my breath away . This is a lovely rendition .
Wow, this is excellent. I'm left speechless.
@bearwrassler176 My choir director was a tenor in the Phoenix Bach Choir. I love this song.

Also, from the get-go, this recording gets to be a half-step flat.
