    Awesome fish! I was at sand harbor today with my dad and my son and was hoping to get some fishing in by bonsai rock but it turned out to be a-site seeing day for pops (wheelchair) on the bike trail. What a beautiful day at the lake !! Thanks for the the videos 👍

      Right on. Cruising around and taking in the killer surroundings isn't all bad. In fact, sounds like a great time. I mostly prefer to fish during the colder months when the crowds are down and I don't always have to find deep water by climbing out onto some hazardous shoreline. In the end, overcoming the challenges of the shoreline adds to the excitement of getting a nice fish into the net.

      @@wildernesswithamani1027 You’re right about the summer crowds up there. I couldn’t believe how many people were there on a Wednesday!! Also, I was fishing at a spot this spring from one of your videos. For about 2 hours,nothing. So I decided to call my wife 15 minutes before packing up and of course I start getting bit! By the the time I put the phone down and got to my rod it was over. Never got another chance but seeing those that you pull in keep me excited about going back 👍

      @@itwasntme208 That's the way it goes a lot there. Absolutely nothing all day and then when you are least expecting it and are not prepared they hit. Tahoe can be that one bite in a day spot but the one bite can be a real good fish. When I miss that strike it drives me crazy not knowing what it was. All we can hope for is next time when that happens.

      I think the whole short term rental situation has brought thousands more people in to the area at any given time. Before it was limited to hotels, campgrounds, and way fewer cabin rentals but now anyone can book something in minutes on their phone and that will reduce more long term housing. The nice thing is, even though I didn't see a foot of available parking on the 28 when I was leaving I barely noticed only a few people hiking the trail above me the whole time I was out there. I don't know where all of those people go but it certainly isn't fishing anywhere they have to hike to. Tons of kayaks and paddleboards near sand harbor but not many make it all the way to the water off chimney beach. If you don't snap your leg getting out there it's great!

    Nice size rainbow. I fished the Truckee today off hwy 80. Caught two rainbows and a small brown. The water flows were a little pushy and once the sun comes out the fishing gets tough. I may need to try one of the smaller lakes to get an eater?

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  5 месяцев назад +1

      The Truckee is real big right now and it might stay that way for a while. I get all of my eating fish out of lakes anyway. Easier fisheries to replenish. lake Tahoe has a robust wild trout spawning situation where they really protect the tributaries so taking the occasional rainbow out of there won't effect much other than the fish you land and your full stomach when you are done eating! Most of the charter fishing seems to be for Mackinaw. Easier to locate with consistency using electronics I guess. My personal view is I try to keep as many of the larger trout I catch in rivers as possible so I always fish artificial/barbless/catch and release in rivers/creeks.

    Very nice catch! How long were your leaders at this spot? My old man and I LOVE watching your videos and have gone to some of your spots on LT to enjoy some quality father/son fishing time--thanks for the inspiration and keep up the great work as always!

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  5 месяцев назад

      Right on. My leaders were around 5' long because the boulders out there were huge so I wanted to try to ensure my bait wasn't sitting out of sight between two giant boulders. it's tough with my 5' rod to have a leader that long but I can make it work. I'd go longer if I had bigger rods but I like to battle the trout on lighter tackle so I guess it is what it is. With that said, I think the rainbows cruise through those tight areas looking for crawdads but I can't be sure. I only see their stomachs are often packed with crawdads to the point they are coming out of there throats but I have no idea how that feeding process actually goes down. I also move my stuff around about every 45 minutes because there are so many unknowns when it comes to the structures on the bottom where my bait is sitting.

      Hey thanks for the info on the leaders. Yeah 5 ft is quite long but hey whatever results in them biting! I don't go down there much because fishing from the shore there is usually a struggle but I wanted deeper colder water with few people around and that's the Summer spot to do it. When I say fewer people I mean I didn't see anyone. Heard voices on the trail above a couple of times but that was it all morning. When I left the parking situation on the road and in the lot was packed. People everywhere. I don't know where all of those people go but it isn't fishing.

      I got my lines out at about 6:30am and hit that fish right around noon. Funny thing is, I usually get out there near the crack of dawn and often I get my fish in the middle of the day. Especially true in the Winter. I guess you just have to wait for that fish cruising through the boulders as it feeds on crawdads. Find the food, find the fish!

  • @timb7257

    Hey Amani, how did you get the snag out?

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  5 месяцев назад

      Yeah, the fish swam me out of it. I had a little slack in my line so I guess it was enough room for the fish to swim straight under a boulder out there when it took my crawlers and felt the hook. By the time I got to my rod I was completely hung up. I just put my rod tip down and gave it full slack and the fish swam me right out of trouble. Only hook I lost that day was in the fish. I dug it out later after I got home.

    Why don't you use your boat and avoid the treacherous terrain?..is there a place to launch that reasonably close?

    • @wildernesswithamani1027
      @wildernesswithamani1027  5 месяцев назад

      I don't use my boat because of the extra hassle it takes to get the extra tag and the mussel inspection process. My boat has all kinds of dirt in it because I often am launching from the bank of lakes and my muddy boots go right in. Even if I wanted to use it in there and was willing to pay an extra fee I don't think it would pass inspection. Anyway, battling the terrain is part of the fun of getting nice fish in the net. Overcoming things like the large boulders or the long hike into Emerald Bay and battling the trout with my ultralight rod add to the struggle. I'm a dude who's willing to overcome struggles for nice fish like this! Also, the road above can have every available parking inch lined with cars and I won't see a single person the whole time I am down there fishing. I don't know where all of those people go but it isn't fishing.
