    I like to dissolve my bentonite in the microwave. You can dissolve the bentonite with much less water that way.
    Cold water, bentonite, and a Pyrex measuring cup. Microwave until boiling. Mix it. Zap it again for another 20-30 seconds and you will have a thick slurry.

    loved the video, i like to rack and filter the wine before bottling and leave for a year ( which is difficult )

    I leave the wine making to my better half as she enjoys blending the wines but I do enjoy a glass of the vino, in fact I am drinking a red wine at the moment👍👍👍

      @@SimpleHomeBrew nope. It started fermenting again and blew the corks 😂😂 so I decided at that point I wasn't very good at it. I guess it hadn't finished . I thought I'd stalled the yeast but clearly not 😂

    Good video my friend. I've only made one wine so far, a chardonnay, but that bentonite is a bugger.

      Thanks, I agree about the bentonite. The good thing is the bentonite dissolves over time so you really don't need to worry so much about it.

    Really enjoying the videos!! I'm currently 1 week into fermenting my first go at wine. It is the cabernet with grape skins. Have you done a kit with grape skins yet? you mentioned that you didn't get a good taste of tannins in this one, the skins will probably help with that. It also came with a second round of oak cubes, in addition to the chips, that go in after fermentation. Curious how/where you are storing all of your bottles for aging? Keep the content coming, cheers!

      Thanks Kevin, I am yet to try a kit with skins. I am intrigued what kit are you making? When it comes to storing my bottles for aging I have plastic box that I lined with insulation and leave it in my shed. This only works in the winter time the rest of the time I leave them in the spare bed room wit the door closed so the temperature stay cool. Let me know how you go with your wine, I would like know what it's like. Pierre

    Pierre, have you ever had a nice California Merlot? If so how does it compare to a Merlot from Chile as I've always wanted to try a Merlot from Chile as I've heard good things. I actually prefer Australian Chardonnay over California Chardonnay but my wife seems to prefer the California. Made me really want to make another wine but I still have a ton of Merlot as I gave a bunch of bottles away but I'm the only one in my house that drinks it. My wife only drinks white wine and almost no other adult beverage. (Need card at 1:30 to blueberry cider).

      Thanks for the heads up. I haven't tried the California Merlot as the shop I get my gear from has never had it. I am the same I am the only one besides my daughter in law that likes to drink reds. My wife will only drink sweet wines and my actual daughter is willing to try it but still has no acquired taste for it yet.

    It does not say two cups of water. It says 8 cups or two liters.

      I made this video a while back when it did say two cups of water! They updated it and now it does say two litres. I mention this in my next wine video. Thanks for your input and thanks for watching.

    Bentonite cant be dissolved, because it is clay.

    • @SimpleHomeBrew
      @SimpleHomeBrew  3 месяца назад

      to break up and scatter, is the definition of dissolve! can you think of a better word?
